GREEN MEANS PLATINUM FOR RBDG-DESIGNED SWEETWATER RECORDING STUDIOS AND PRESENTATION THEATRE

rbdg_sweetwater_studioa-06.jpgFORTH WAYNE, IN — Leading audio retailer Sweetwater has received a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum Certification for its new Forth Wayne, IN facility, which boasts three new recording studios and a presentation theatre designed by Russ Berger Design Group (RBDG).

LEED is a third-party certification system established by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) that encourages strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. Platinum is the highest rating given by the organization.

“Developing a ‘green’ design that meets the stringent specifications of LEED Platinum is difficult enough without adding the large energy demands posed by recording studios and a presentation space with the best in AV technologies, says Russ Berger, president of RBDG. “Through unique space planning and treatment choices we were able to meet the need for great sounding rooms that reflect the reputation of Sweetwater, while still honoring the requirements to make it environmentally friendly. RBDG is proud to be part of a project that has received such a high honor.?

Home to Sweetwater’s full-service Sweetwater Productions division, the studios designed by RBDG offer the best in audio recording for the variety of production services it provides to outside companies and artists. These technical spaces also allow Sweetwater to showcase equipment for its customers, test and evaluate gear in house, and provide training spaces for its sales engineers. Studio A’s live room can support full bands and ensembles and offers two isolation booths. The main control room is configured for 7.1 surround sound and features a premium Digidesign ICON D-Control console. Studios B and C both feature control rooms with booths for recording voice or solo instruments.

Sweetwater’s Performance Theatre is in constant use for product training for Sweetwater sales engineers. It features four full sound systems, audio connectivity at each seat, a complete theatrical surround-sound audio system and high-definition video display, featuring a 24-foot rear projection screen plus two secondary screens for image magnification. The 250-seat theatre also is equipped with a LARES acoustical architecture system, featuring more than 80 speakers distributed throughout the room, which allows Sweetwater to dynamically change the acoustics of the theatre. The variable acoustics make the venue ideal for music performances and recording sessions by local musicians and guest artists, as well as for intimate training sessions.
