CubeX Video Adds Splash to National Guard FLW College Fishing Circuit
BURBANK, Calif. — May 26, 2009 — CubeX Video, a leading supplier of turnkey video wall solutions, today announced that FLW Outdoors is using a 3×3 HD LCD CubeX video wall as a dynamic leaderboard for the National Guard FLW College Fishing circuit. Installed directly on the tournament trailer, the video wall is used to display angler stats, animated graphics, and sponsor logos, creating a visually engaging and compelling backdrop for the mobile stage and presentation podium.
“The CubeX video wall gives this circuit a really unique look and adds a lot of flash to our events,” said Doug Chessor, systems engineer at FLW Outdoors. “It looks just beautiful, and it allows us to add creative elements that impress both the college kids and our sponsors. The college circuit addresses a young demographic, and we use the CubeX system to blend slick graphics and more of a video game-like visual style into our presentations.”
The College Fishing trail was announced by FLW Outdoors in May 2008, and the circuit launched in January 2009. Full-time students from four-year colleges or universities compete by division, with prize money being split evenly between the winning team’s club and school. The tournaments are free to enter, boats and drivers are provided, and all collegiate teams receive a travel allowance. The top five teams in each of the qualifying events advance to one of five televised three-day FLW National Guard Regional Championships. The winning team will be declared the FLW National Guard Collegiate National Champion and will qualify for the $2.5 million Forrest Wood Cup, presented by BP and Castrol in 2010.
As student-anglers compete at FLW College Fishing events, the FLW Outdoors trailer and CubeX video wall bring a new look to fishing events around the U.S. Protected during travel by a sliding door, the video wall is permanently mounted along with shock-absorption systems designed to minimize the impact of coast-to-coast travel. At each tournament, the trailer door unfolds to provide a stage and reveal the CubeX system. Positioned behind the stage and deejay, the video wall — driven by computer inputs — gives Chessor and his colleagues the flexibility to add new elements as they go from tournament to tournament, or to update video, graphics, logos, and branding as the season unfolds. When the circuit reaches regionals, FLW Outdoors will use the CubeX wall to introduce a three-day tournament based on a fishing video game.
The nine 46-inch LCD screens that make up the 3×3 CubeX video wall feature perfect 178-degree viewing angles and are uniformly brightness- and color-calibrated to ensure perfect panel-to-panel color matching. An ultra-thin ½-inch bezel on each panel further enhances the impact of dynamic video displayed over multiple panels or the entire video wall. The integrated video wall processing system simplifies control and configuration of the system — supporting multiple presets for different layouts and sources — while providing valuable functionality such as automatic gap compensation when needed.
