OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY’S FORMULA SAE PROJECT TAKES A DRIVE WITH NEUTRIK
~ Neutrik Connectors Provide Pivotal Information for Engine Management System ~
CORVALLIS, OR — Neutrik USA goes the extra mile for Oregon State University by donating several of its DL Series XLR connectors to the school for its Formula SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) project. Formula SAE is a series of competitions open to students across the globe that features student design and development of small formula-style racecars built to rigid safety and performance specifications. Vehicles are judged in both engineering design and on track vehicle performance.
Neutrik’s DL Series XLR connectors have been incorporated into the Motronic Engine System employed in the University’s racecar design, communicating with the vehicle’s engine management system, the ECU (Engine Control Unit). The ECU controls the engine’s performance and allows the students to tune and control the engine efficiently. It also controls the fuel consumption for the endurance/economy events and provides maximum power for the acceleration and autocross events.
This year, Oregon State University students will participate in the Los Angeles competition as well as in the German competition, held in Hockenheim, Germany. There are nine events around the world each year, each hosting roughly 70 to 100 teams. Each team is required to build a new car every year, which is eligible for one year from its first competition date.
“We build a car each year from scratch, except of course we learned from our previous competition’s experience, so we try to improve upon the design every year, says Bill Murray, teacher’s assistant for the SAE as well as the technical advisor for the Formula SAE projects at Oregon State University. “Neutrik manufactures the industry-standard in connectors; it was the only choice for us.
Neutrik’s DL Series XLRs (NC5FD-L-1) are universal D-size metal body panel-mount XLRs. They feature 5-pole female receptacles with nickel housing, silver contacts and solder cups.
Neutrik manufactures a wide array of XLR connectors and receptacles, jacks and plugs, speaker connectors and accessories for the professional audio industry. Neutrik USA is located at 195 Lehigh Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701.
