A virtual press conference from Sound & Video Contractor

Winona State University - AV2000WINONA, MN – Celebrating its 35th Anniversary this year, Wireworks Corporation, the pioneer in professional audio/video cabling products and custom panels, heads to the front of the class at Winona State University with its AV2000 for Smart Podiums being used throughout the school. Wireworks AV2000 for Smart Podiums provides the robust, single connector solution the University was looking for, as the company’s AV2000 is the only multi-pin connector system that can accommodate audio, high definition video, high-speed data, and serial digital interface control signals in a single sophisticated hybrid connector.

Initiated by the teaching and learning technology services department, which oversees all the rooms on campus and facilitated by Sim Sound & Video Inc., Wireworks AV2000 for Smart Podiums has become a University-wide solution. Since each room was designed differently and has unique connectivity needs, AV2000’s flexibility is able to provide Winona State University with a standard connectivity system for its classrooms and auditoriums.

“We initially installed Wireworks AV2000 for Smart Podiums into a few classrooms throughout the University,? says Tom Hill, director of learning spaces in the teaching and learning technology services department at Winona State University. “We are so impressed with its functionality and ease of use that we are currently in the process of installing several more.?

Winona 2Winona State University has installed Wireworks AV2000 for Smart Podiums into five classrooms, with seven more currently being outfitted. The installations also include a number of auditoriums and several new 80-person tiered classrooms. The school’s main goal was to have a system its faculty could move from one classroom to another, as it was needed. Wireworks AV2000 for Smart Podiums single-connector latching system provided this solution while also supporting the connectivity requirements the school was looking for.

At Winona State University, Crestron’s Integrated AV Control System (MP2), FlipTop Touch Panel Computer Center (QM-FTCC-TPS4) and its Room Media Controller and QuickMedia® Receiver (QM-RMCRX-BA) are employed. Wireworks AV2000 for Smart Podiums connects audio; Cresnet, the communications backbone for many Crestron products as it is a flexible 4-wire network that provides rock-solid bidirectional communication; Crestron QuickMedia, which delivers a full-range of video; infrared controls from the Crestron to the control equipment; and RF for cables as well as several Ethernet lines. Winona State specifically asked Wireworks to include an extra two lines of Ethernet, allowing for expansion in the system if they need more Ethernet in the future.

“The connector is robust enough that we don’t have to worry about it breaking,? continues Hill. “And it’s pre-made, so all we had to do was define what we needed. Wireworks delivered it and it was ready to be plugged in.?

The AV2000 Umbilical permanently attaches inside of the smart podium for an easy and direct connection to the equipment within. The system eliminates any additional connectors as well as complex interface panels on the wall or in floor boxes. Connecting multimedia systems through one simple and reliable plug-in, AV2000 offers a practical, time and cost-efficient solution for both the installer and end-user. It also allows non AV professionals to easily set up the system, eliminating the possibility of crossed connections. The system offers a configured drop-in solution with an unprecedented turn-around time that is vital for the AV professional.
