HaiVision E-Rate Listing Gives K-12 Schools Low-Cost Access to Latest Live and On-Demand H.264 IP Video Distribution Technology

MONTREAL and CHICAGO — July 8, 2009 — HaiVision Network Video today announced that the company’s video networking solutions are now listed as E-Rate products by the U.S. Department of Education. With this designation and the help of federal funding, HaiVision solutions are now more easily accessible to eligible educational institutions seeking to deploy the latest networking technologies to bring live video and video-on-demand into the classroom.

Qualified institutions can get up to 90 percent of E-Rate product costs funded by the government program. To this end, many of HaiVision’s GOLD resellers can offer customers aid in configuring systems and writing funding requests. HaiVision products are listed under SPIN 143032804, classified under the Video Furnace corporate name with whom HaiVision merged earlier this year.

“The E-Rate listing is exciting for HaiVision because it enables us to put great video networking technology and tools into the hands of schools, faculty members, and students that might not otherwise be able to afford them,” said Mirko Wicha, president and CEO of HaiVision Network Video. “As libraries and educational institutions look at best approaches to adopt leading technology within restricted budgets, they now have the opportunity to take advantage of our market-leading solutions at a fraction of the actual cost.”

HaiVision’s E-Rated products are perfectly suited to the challenges of K-12 institutions and libraries. These include the Video Furnace System 5 (VFS5) video distribution system and the MAKITO™ and BARRACUDA™ video encoding equipment. These products allow educators to push live TV content to classrooms and every student’s desktop, to build subject-specific content libraries, and to offer video-on-demand to their students and faculty members. With VFS5, they can do this with the confidence that they are installing systems that support the latest and most efficient industry standards. HaiVision’s end-to-end solution combines the efficiencies of H.264 video compression and the image quality of full HD. School IT departments also benefit from InStream™, HaiVision’s unique desktop player, which requires no desktop preparation of any kind and works immediately across all platforms.

The E-Rate program was created in 1997 to ensure that schools and libraries have affordable access to advanced telecommunications services. Under the program, eligible institutions can receive discounts of up to 90 percent on telecommunications services, Internet access, and internal connections, subject to a $2.25 billion annual cap. Applications for E-Rate discounts can be filed electronically or completed and mailed to the Schools and Libraries Corporation, Iowa City, Iowa.
