Harkness’ Spectral 240 3D and Perlux 180 Screens Featured at RAI Auditorium For IBC 2009

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS – Harkness Screens, the world’s leading manufacturer of projection screens for cinema applications, have been selected as the screen supplier of choice for the 2009 IBC main presentation venue, the RAI Auditorium. With a seating capacity of 1000, the RAI Auditorium will feature a 16.70-meter by 7-meter Harkness Spectral 240 3D screen as well as a 16.70-meter by 7-meter Perlux 180 Harkness screen.

For over a decade, Harkness Screens have been used at the IBC convention. The Spectral 240 will be used to demonstrate the latest 3D imaging techniques in real time, using real-world content, in a real cinematic environment. It will project RealD 3D and master image 3D while the Perlux 180 will be used for digital 2D projection and Dolby 3D projection. The screens will be interchanged accordingly based on the requirements of the presentation.

Harkness Spectral 240 3D screens are considered by cinema exhibitors and special venue operators worldwide to be the optimum 3D projection surface for systems using polarised light. The Spectral 240 provides superior gain characteristics with a very low depolarization level (extinction ratio), excellent colour temperature and generous viewing angles. Seams on the Spectral 240 are invisible under normal projection conditions.

Harkness Perlux screens are considered by leading cinema exhibitors worldwide to be the premier gain projection surface. The Perlux line of screens provides a choice of gain characteristics, high contrast, bright pictures, generous viewing angles and excellent colour temperature. The Perlux 180 is a high-gain option for larger auditoria.

“IBC has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Harkness Screens and we are proud to be using them inside the RAI Auditorium for this year’s convention,” says Louise Lester, technical resources for IBC. “The RAI Auditorium, more affectionately known as the “Big Screen,” is the premier presentation venue at IBC and being able to count on Harkness to once again provide us with high-quality, top-of–the-line equipment for the Auditorium is a huge weight lifted off our shoulders.”

IBC is the leading international forum for the electronic media industry. With more than 1,300 exhibitors, IBC combines a highly respected and peer reviewed conference, an exhibition that demonstrates state-of-the-art media technology and unrivalled networking opportunities. This year’s IBC convention is expected to draw more than 49,000 members of the motion picture industry from more than 130 countries worldwide.
