Oakley Selects Furman’s PL-PRO DMC E for ‘Rolling O Labs’ European Tour

PETALUMA, Calif. — Sept. 17, 2009 — Furman, a world-leading provider of power management solutions, today announced that its PL-PRO DMC E power management/light module is being utilized by Oakley, Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of high-performance sunglasses and apparel, to protect sensitive A/V equipment in the company’s “Rolling O Labs” in Europe. Part of Oakley’s High Definition Optics® (HDO) demo tour, the “Rolling O Labs” are self-contained, 40-foot trailers taken by Oakley to sporting events to provide public demonstrations of their product development and test procedures.

Oakley’s HDO tour has been a great success in the United States, and now the company has taken the “Rolling O Labs” to Europe. The objective of the tour is to show professional athletes and consumers real test equipment used in the Oakley lab, offering people a first-hand look at what goes into making Oakley sunglasses a superior product that not only offers protection from the sun, but protects the eye from any kind of damaging contact.

“To keep things exciting for visitors on the tour, we use a great deal of high-end A/V equipment in our ‘Rolling O Labs,’” said Ryan Evert, O Labs manager at Oakley. “Each trailer contains a custom-built racking system where these electronics are housed. To protect the sensitive equipment from the wide range of power issues we encounter from location to location, Furman’s PL-PRO DMC E is a key component in these racks, helping maintain a consistent flow of current and keeping the equipment performing at its very best.”

Part of Furman’s Classic Export Series, the 16A PL-PRO DMC E includes Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT) for unequaled audio and video clarity, Series Multistage Protection (SMP) for the highest level of surge protection available, and Automatic Extreme Voltage Shutdown (EVS) to protect connected equipment from dangerous overvoltage conditions. For rack illumination, the unit features “Smooth Track” LED rack lights and a rear-panel BNC connector to power any standard gooseneck lamp.

The PL-PRO DMC E features eleven outlets with two rear-panel isolated outlet banks to lower inter-component noise interference, and a “Protection OK” indicator on the front panel to alert users to the operational status of the unit. The PL-PRO DMC E offers a laboratory-precision-grade digital voltmeter/ammeter to monitor the incoming line voltage and true RMS current, and a front-panel charger for small USB-powered electronics.

“We are very excited to be part of this innovative tour as it branches out to Europe,” said Dave Keller, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Furman and Panamax. “As with any tour, it can be extremely difficult and expensive to replace damaged equipment while on the road. Our PL-PRO DMC E not only provides maximum performance from A/V equipment in the ‘Rolling O Labs,’ but it ensures that the equipment is completely protected from power surges and spikes.”
