2. Did you encounter any challenges or limitations that required special consideration in the design of the system or placement of equipment? Please describe the control system.

Weekly site meetings and a strong working relationship with the architect and builder helped us overcome all major construction obstacles throughout the project. The primary control system in this house is AMX which is integrated with the Lutron lighting system, security system, and the Niles ICS distributed audio system. The main design for the control system was to reduce wall clutter throughout the house and to provide easy access to all systems from one location. The Niles ICS system is the main part of the house music system providing access and control of the Sirius tuner, the two zone Request music server and the AM/FM tuner.

3. Discuss the overall plan you created to accomplish the clients’ requirements.

Our main goal was to create a simple design that incorporates the clients essential needs. Once client discovery was completed our process starts with proper documentation to create initial estimates. Once approved by the client the project moves into engineering to generate the final design and installation documentation. Prior to equipment installation it must go through our burn-in phase to assure proper operation. After the installation is completed we walk through with the client to assure we have met their expectations then we offer client training to make sure they are comfortable with using the system.

4. Describe the five most used functions of the system and how they benefit the client.

a. The Lutron lighting system helped simplify control of all outdoor lights, gas lanterns, and indoor fixtures from one keypad or touchpanel. Car visor kits allow them to arrive after sunset to a well lit home. The systems astronomic timer for the exterior lights reduced redundant systems and simplified the seasonal maintenance of these settings.

b. Everyday is a good day for golf. So on the way out of the house, the clients can go to the AMX panel to check the weather and then turn off the lights in house as they leave, so it’s just another beautiful sunny day for golf.

c. The clients entertain a lot of family and guests. Music in every room of the house was an important request including the pool and outdoor kitchen. Having the ability to turn music on in every room with a “party mode� became a popular feature.

d. The clients enjoyed listening to Sirius in their car so much they wanted it in the house. The Niles ICS system provided full control and displayed Meta data to all touchpanel controls. It was so easy that the client’s added their favorite stations with little instruction.

e. The whole family is big sports fans and movie watchers. The 60″ plasma was the perfect size for the living room and is easy to control with their touchscreen remote. The design and placement also allowed viewing from the kitchen and loggia.
