MIX/POST ENGINEER JEFF LARGENT RELIES ON GENELEC SE™ DSP MONITORING SYSTEM FOR HIS MIXOLOGY STUDIO

— Mixology Studio owner and Berklee instructor Jeff Largent knows his mixes translate well from his personal studio space to the dub stage thanks to the SE DSP monitoring system —

— Genelec’s AutoCal™ room calibration software offers even the most compact mixing space highly accurate monitoring —

NATICK, MA, November 10, 2009 — The SE™ (Small Environments) DSP Monitoring System from Genelec, the world leader in Active Monitoring technology, is designed to solve many of the acoustic problems associated with small recording and mixing environments. And that’s just what it’s done for Mixology, the personal studio of Jeff Largent, a Boston-area audio post professional and an instructor at the famous Berklee College of Music. Largent needed a compact but highly accurate monitoring system for his studio, and Genelec’s SE DSP Monitoring System was the perfect solution. The system offers Genelec’s outstanding performance in a high-quality, affordable and easy-to-use package that is ideal for near field monitoring, mobile/location recording, digital audio workstations, broadcast and TV control rooms, surround sound systems, home studios and multimedia applications.

“The AutoCal™ feature makes all the difference in the world,? says Largent, who was a member of the first graduating class of Berklee’s Music Production and Engineering department in 1984. Since then, Largent has worked as a sound designer, sound supervisor and re-mix engineer for feature films and television series, including Beakman’s World, Braveheart and The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., as well as various music projects and specialty 5.1 and 7.1 mixing projects, including a 4-D theater installation at Washington D.C.’s Newseum. “I had bought my first set of Genelec 1030s fifteen years ago, so I’ve been a long-time Genelec fan. But to make sure the monitoring would be extremely precise at Mixology? – which is in a converted living space – “I needed what Genelec’s AutoCal could give me.?

The SE DSP Monitoring System features Genelec’s proprietary AutoCal GLM.SE™ (Genelec Loudspeaker Manager) software, which provides the familiar graphic interface to help speed users through system setup and complete acoustic calibration. As Largent notes, using the software he was able not only to create an incredibly accurate multichannel monitoring environment, but also to save as much as $20,000 in acoustical treatment costs for his mixing space. “Without the SE DSP system, the studio would have required bass traps running along the length of the basement and other treatments for various dips and spikes in the room,? he explains. “AutoCal took care of all of that, and it came with a great-sounding set of speakers. When I send a mix to the dub stage, I never get that dreaded call about translation problems. All the mixes translate accurately. The SE DSP Monitoring System is the perfect solution for small mixing spaces like this.?

Genelec’s SE DSP Monitoring System combines the SE7261A 10-inch DSP subwoofer with 8130A digital input active monitors (5-inch bass drivers and 3/4-inch tweeters), for easy configuration as a sub-assisted stereo or multi-channel reference system. Software control is reassuringly simple with the SE7261A DSP subwoofer providing all necessary network connections to the host computer and supplying extensive DSP resources through its high-pass AES digital outputs to the 8130A’s. Like all Genelec DSP systems, the new SE System is designed to adapt to the user’s listening environment accurately and quickly.
