Scharff Weisberg Supports Terra Networks’ High-Profile Event and After Party at the New Museum

Scharff Weisberg provided complete audio, video, lighting and logistics support for a high-profile, upfront-style event and after party for Terra Networks at the New Museum on The Bowery. At the event Terra, an international online content distribution company, announced new contracts and extensions of contracts with major content providers, such as the NBA, Major League Baseball and the Olympics, and hosted celebrities associated with each.

Headquartered in Spain, Terra operates both as a web portal and Internet access provider in the US, Spain and 16 Latin American countries. The New Museum, which is dedicated to new art and new ideas, offers a unique venue for cutting-edge events like Terra’s.

When guests entered the museum’s ground-floor lobby for the evening’s welcome and reception they were greeted by LED lights tracing the curved metal structure in the middle of the space and chasing the company colors; Scharff Weisberg worked closely with Dennis Menard on the event’s lighting design. Terra’s splash logos were projected onto the lobby walls.

The New Museum’s double-height theater housed the main presentation. Scharff Weisberg provided four Christie M series S+ projectors to create a large edge-blended image across each of the side falls and a Christie M series HD projector for the main projection screen. Each edge-blended projection was fed images from a Pandora’s Box which handled the alignment and blending tasks. The main screen also received a feed from a Pandora’s Box but it was switched through a ScreenPro II switcher to allow distribution of the screen’s content to different rooms. An additional ScreenPro enabled a PiP window in the overflow lobby area to show the live event from the theater as well as the content that was played back.

Scharff Weisberg flew a PA system in the theater and supplied numerous wireless beltpacks with E6 headsets to accommodate the large number of presenters.

The company also furnished a two-camera IMAG package for the overflow in the lobby and to record the event for archiving.

Terra’s after party was staged in the museum’s seventh-floor Sky Room, which features floor-to-ceiling windows and a wrap-around terrace. Scharff Weisberg provided indoor and outdoor audio for the DJ and a lighting package, which set the scene and projected the company logo around the rim of the room. ColorBlaze LEDs also shot up the side of the building from the terrace and changed the color of the museum’s façade.

“The Terra project had several last-minute changes and additions that kept us on our toes,” notes Scharff Weisberg event manager, Josh Perlman. “The day before the load in, the client decided they wanted to project video around a water tower next door so it could be viewed from the Sky Room. We implemented a Hippo system and LX120 projector to accomplish this. The Hippo wrapped the video around the water tower and played back a continuous loop of video content. In addition, we used two custom glass gobos and high-power Source 4 lights to project Terra’s logo onto the building next door.”

“Scharff Weisberg has our thanks for the excellent job they did and the wonderful team they provided,” says Tatiana Gouveia, project manager for Brazil-based B/Ferraz Comunicacao Promocional Ltda. “Scharff Weisberg demonstrated a really high level of quality and support.”

Cesar Favaro of CzarProd, also in Brazil, was the stage manager for the event.

Scharff Weisberg and Video Applications, firms with extensive histories in the presentation and staging markets, recently announced a co-ownership agreement. While continuing to operate independently the two companies work together strategically to provide clients with state-of-the-art audio, video and lighting equipment and services.
