CBT/SMARTdesks Introduces New Collaboration Tool With Pi Classroom Laptop and Computer Tables
LINTHICUM, Md. — Jan. 7, 2010 – CBT/SMARTdesks, the leading supplier of computer classroom and conference room furniture, today introduced the new Pi(TM) classroom laptop and computer tables for collaboration groups. Featuring a circular design, the modular tables allow for any collaboration arrangement, while offering flipIT(R) systems to discretely lock away laptops and LCD screens when not in use.
Pi computer tables are unique in that they are built on the geometry of circles, not rectangles. In fact, each Pi table is an arc section of an 85-foot diameter circle, at which 314 people may be seated (Pi’s value = 3.14…). The tables’ shape permits an infinite number of arrangements for collaboration, from straight and curved rows to informal arrangements of small teams. Completely modular, Pi tables can accommodate pillars and posts in a classroom, with configurations easily changed on the fly.
For the convenient integration of classroom technology, Pi tables are available with flipIT LCD or Laptop Safe systems. The flipIT Laptop Safe is a lockable charging station. When open, the laptop can be freely positioned for use. When closed, it is locked away and the top surface can be used as a regular study table. With the flipIT LCD control system, the LCD rotates under the desktop for storage. The control system includes a CPU holder, WireWonderâ„¢ cable manager and organizer, and six-outlet power source.
“We are pleased to introduce our latest offering for collaborative learning. The Pi tables’ unique shape allows them to nest together in organic arrangements found in nature, allowing any number of configurations for team computing groups,” said Jeffrey Korber, president of CBT/SMARTdesks. “And by utilizing the flipIT systems, students have convenient access to the technology they need. The entire desktop is available for use when the computers are locked away, giving the classroom open sight lines between the instructor and the students.”
Easy to arrange in any classroom, the “R-Squared” printer storage cabinet creates a hub to route power and data to two Pi tables, while the “Saddle” (a term used to describe a hyperbolic paraboloid) is used to bridge gaps between left and right Pi strands. The tables are available in a wide variety of finishes at 28 inches for use with the flipIT laptop safe, or 30 inches for use with the flipIT LCD safe with keyboard tray.
