Stage Research Introduces License Server to Manage Concurrent Use of Products for Network Users

Stage Research has announced the debut of its License Server, a new product that allocates licenses on demand for network users. The software runs on a central computer (server) to manage concurrent use of any Stage Research product.

“The License Server was developed to replace USB network keys that we previously had for network users,” notes Carlton Guc, cofounder of Stage Research. “The keys never really worked well, and it seemed that the developer couldn’t tell us how to fix the problems users experienced. So we decided to write our own License Server as a solution.”

The new product has the advantages of not needing a key and being able to sit anywhere on a user’s network. “It can maintain any Stage Research software license and serve out licenses for any product,” Guc explains. “For example, you can have it manage both your SFX and SoftPlot licenses.”

A case in point: If a user has five licenses registered for SFX then up to five computers anywhere on the network can request licenses to run SFX. Any request above five will be denied. Once a user exits SFX then the license is released and another user can request the freed license.

Like all of Stage Research’s products, the License Server is designed to be user-friendly. “It can sit anywhere on a network as long as it is accessible via TCP/IP and an open port,” says Guc. “Only the License Server needs to be installed, and new licenses/serial numbers can be added directly at any time.”
The License Server will be especially useful for schools and educational institutions that want a central license server or theaters that want to run more than one copy of Stage Research software through the network.
The License Server comes free w/ any purchase of a lab or classroom multiuser license.
