Ben Folds Keynote Address Set For March 5th

NASHVILLE: Attendees of The Nashville Recording Workshop + Expo 2010 March 5-6 are in for a treat as artist, writer, engineer, producer and studio owner Ben Folds kicks off this year’s event with the opening keynote address. Set for Belmont’s Curb Event Center, just steps away from the heart of Nashville’s legendary Music Row, NRW+E has also announced a number of exciting new panelists and presenters.

Uniquely qualified to speak to the successful melding of technology and creativity, Ben Folds is known for both his cutting edge approach to the music industry and for his million-plus selling songs worldwide. Fresh off his nationally broadcast appearance as a judge on the NBC TV Series The Sing Off, he forged a distinctive path in the music industry through major-label album projects and with his pioneering series of internet-only releases.

Top professionals in all fields of the recording and production process will come together at NRW+E for in-depth discussion and insights into a variety of creative and technical approaches to getting the most from any recording environment. Featured presentations include:

DAW Essentials – Multi-Platinum producer John Merchant (The Bee Gees, Toni Braxton, Celine Dion) will moderate this primer on using DAW’s to their fullest potential, along with special guests Trina Shoemaker (Pro Tools) Bill Deaton (Logic) and Bob Bullock (Nuendo), all highly-successful Nashville-based engineers. These power-users will relate their best practices for their workstation of choice, from track layout, to vocal comping and signal flow.

Beat and Loops: Augmenting Your Recordings with Virtual Instruments – this highly-anticipated workshop, featuring producer/artist/engineer Charles Hayes, who, along with Melvin “Maestro” Lightford will demo different approaches to using beats and loops to augment core tracks.

The Song: From the Heart to the Hard Drive – This panel features GRAMMY-winning artist/producers Ray Kennedy and Gary Nicholson discussing their approach to producing top-notch demos utilizing their own studios and tools as they continue their storied careers working alongside some of the world’s top musicians.

Master Class: Mastering 101 – Mayfield Mastering’s John Mayfield will discuss why mastering is important, mastering basics and how to create more “masterable” mixes.

NRW+E special guests include such top industry engineers, producers, artists and dignitaries as: Chuck Ainlay, Joe Palmaccio, Chad Hailey, Nathan Chapman, Michael Rhodes, Vance Powell, Sharon Corbitt-House, Lynn Fuston, Russ Long, Pat McMakin, Dan Rudin, Cliff Goldmacher, Jim Catino, Bob Regan, Dave Pomeroy, Maureen Droney, Garth Fundis, Jim Kaiser, John Storyk and Kos Weaver.

Additional panelists and presenters for the Nashville Recording Workshop+ Expo 2010 will be announced leading up to the show, covering a wide range of recording, production, and technology topics relevant to today’s recording professionals and enthusiasts. For registration information (special early bird rates end Feb 24!) and up-to-the-minute info on the latest workshops and exhibitors at the 2010 Nashville Recording Workshop + Expo visit www.nashvillerecordingworkshop.com.

The Nashville Recording Workshop + Expo was designed to provide the growing number of individuals owning personal recording spaces, including artists and songwriters, access to the experience and knowledge of the AES and its affiliates, and to provide real-world insights into technology and techniques that can help attendees achieve professional results, whether in a high-end recording studio or working with a less-than-professional budget.

Beyond workshops, attendees may also browse the offerings of the ‘Expo’ portion of the conference, with gear, products and services demonstrated by a wide variety of hardware and software manufacturers and vendors (many offering special NRW+E discounts on their products), as well as professional organizations representing songwriters, musicians and engineers.
