HaiVision Accepted as an Approved Retransmission Technology by DCP LLC
MONTREAL and CHICAGO — March 1, 2010 — HaiVision Network Video today announced that its HD H.264 low latency technology has been accepted as an Approved Retransmission Technology (ART) by Digital Content Protection LLC (DCP), administrator of the HDCP specification and compliances. The specific application of the HaiVision technology is an OEM product developed from the MAKITO™ HD H.264 platform. The application is for the low latency transmission (encoding and decoding) of protected content within isolated networks, such as those on board an aircraft.
This product technology was developed to solve the challenge of delivering synchronized and low-latency, multichannel HD video and audio so that passengers could enjoy interactive games and videos for which the electronics are housed in a central compartment elsewhere in the cabin. The essential goal is to reduce costs and aircraft weight by distributing compressed audio and video over IP rather than over baseband cabling.
Modern games and HD video content are widely protected through HDCP, a form of content protection that is incorporated within the ubiquitous HDMI connection standard. To gain approval as an ART for video over IP technology, HaiVision presented its specific implementation designs related to assuring content protection to the DCP committee and addressed questions related to any potential breaches in the security framework. The DCP committee comprises some of the largest media companies and studios in the world.
“Secure video transmission is a critical technology in all of HaiVision’s focus market segments,” stated Joe Gaucher, chief technical officer, HaiVision Network Video. “The work that we have done to achieve the DCP certification will ultimately benefit our clients in the military, medical, and commercial sectors.”
