Stage Research Unveils USITT Plans to Introduce RF Guru, Offer SoftPlot Update and Launch Twitter Promotions

At the upcoming 2010 USITT (United States Institute for Theatre Technology) Conference & Stage Expo in Kansas City, Missouri, March 30-April 3, Stage Research will introduce its new RF Guru product, offer an update to SoftPlot, and launch a series of Twitter promotions guaranteed to capture the attention of all attendees.

RF Guru is a coordination tool targeted to anyone dealing with wireless microphones. Designed to find the best combination of wireless mic frequencies to be used at a venue and alleviate intermod (i.e., interference) problems, it calculates based on existing mics, area TV stations, user-entered known bad frequencies and even mic data from nearby neighboring venues. “People tell us RF Guru is what they’ve been waiting for,” says Stage Research cofounder Carlton Guc.

The new tool informs wireless mic users setting up their systems of the maximum possible optimum frequencies they can safely use without interference, and it tells those with an existing wireless mic setup of any problems that might lead to intermod. “RF Guru is a unique and invaluable tool for choosing wireless microphones for a new production or event and for testing for problems in a production that already has chosen frequencies,” Guc reports.

At USITT Stage Research will release a new RF Guru feature in collaboration with Lectrosonics, which will be sharing the Stage Research booth at the show. The feature will enable RF Guru to use Lectrosonics’ VR wireless receivers to scan the local RF spectrum and automatically populate RF Guru with that information.

The SoftPlot 9.2 update will also be unveiled enhancing the capabilities and compatibility of the popular graphical design software that enables lighting designers to plot lighting and manage paperwork at all levels of the industry.

Chief among the numerous additions to SoftPlot 9.2 are compatibility with Windows 7 and Windows Vista, access to the older version of the DXF Import menu command, and a revamped Graphic Symbol Editor with assignable individual color attributes.

USITT attendees will want to make sure to attend the session, “Integrating Show Systems Without Resorting to a Sledgehammer,” which will be led by Stage Research on March 31 from 1:30-3:00 pm. The intriguingly-named session will explore how, given that many systems need to be integrated to make a successful show today, certain tools and devices can be used to “coerce” unlikely systems into proper etiquette for communication.

And, finally, Stage Research plans to engage Twitter users by sending out several Tweets a day during USITT promoting drawings for free Stage Research software, T-shirts and drafting templates. Twitter users should go to http://twitter.com/StageResearch to sign up.
