MOH Technology Unveils Centralized Audio Distribution System for Messaging/Music on Hold Service Providers

Flexible solution extends to talking signage and information point applications for retail stores, visitor attractions

BUCHS, SWITZERLAND, March 19, 2010 — MOH Technology AG, a custom software developer specializing in audio distribution and monitoring applications, introduces a new messaging/music on hold and general pre-recorded audio playback system developed in cooperation with the Audio over IP experts at Barix AG. The solution will be introduced at the OHMA (On Hold Messaging Association) 10th Annual International Conference, being held March 18-20 at the Westin Hotel in San Diego.

MOH Technology has produced a cost-effective solution based on low-cost Barix hardware that reliably distributes audio content over the internet and plays it out as an analog source. This makes it ideal for on-hold audio in PBX telephone systems. Audio can also be sent as a SIP-compatible stream.

Audio content is automatically refreshed over the internet from a central server, from which new messaging/music and settings are periodically downloaded. Advanced scheduling of downloads removes the need to manually prepare content and physically send updates to remote locations, which can vastly reduce costs and effort compared to systems based on distribution of USB sticks or CDs.

The system can also be used for “talking signage? applications such as motion triggered messaging at information points in retail stores, museums, theme parks and other venues, businesses and visitor attractions. Information can be changed quickly and easily online; for example, to advise customers of current specials or provide relevant information about an exhibit. This enables messaging/music on hold service providers to extend their existing business opportunities.

“The MOH Technology solution gives service providers a reliable platform to distribute regularly updated audio content to their end customers, from one to many locations,? said David Gostick of MOH Technology. “End customers can include stores, hotels and restaurants – any business or facility that may place callers on hold at any time. Furthermore, the service is a business enabler for such service providers, allowing them to address new markets such as talking signage.?

One well-known U.S. based service provider, Thanks for Holding, has already implemented the MOH Technology Content Management System. “Having a proven IP-based content delivery solution with many improved features has been very exciting,? according to Michael Newman, President of Thanks for Holding. “Being able to own the software and run it on our own servers has been desired for some time. We now have total control of playback devices at customer locations with lower costs, and the increased functionality is creating new business opportunity.?

Barix provides the hardware components for the messaging/music on hold solution through its Exstreamer Audio over IP devices, which handle local storage of the content and playback. The low cost Exstreamer is ideal for injecting streamed audio directly into a PBX phone system. Tens of thousands of Exstreamers are currently in use worldwide, distributing audio over IP infrastructures.

The Barix Annuncicom, with its digital inputs, is used as the base for talking signage applications. A push button or motion sensor connected to the Annuncicom will cause the device to play a stored message. Configuration options allow for fine tuning to tailor system performance to specific applications.

Service Providers have access to a web-based Content Management System, which allows them to upload new content and assign it to customer locations. The site’s simple design shows at a glance the status of each customer, enabling the service provider to stay on top of its business.

“Although we offer a hosted service, one of the strongest pieces of feedback we had when speaking with industry figures was that service providers don’t like being tied in to using a proprietary system where they have no control or ownership? said Gostick. “That’s why we offer our software to service providers; they can install it on their own hardware and be masters of their own destiny.?

MOH Technology has negotiated discounted prices for OHMA members with hardware manufacturer Barix, in a special deal to be announced at the upcoming OHMA convention.
