FRENCH NATIONAL AUDIOVISUAL INSTITUTE SELECTS SONNOX RESTORE
Innovative Audio Restoration Plug-ins To Refurbish Historical Archives
PARIS: INA, the French National Audiovisual Institute, is a repository of the French radio and television audiovisual archive. Featuring a search tool indexing over 100,000 archives and 20,000 + hours of historical programming, in 2006 INA introduced www.ina.fr as a free online consultation website for students, journalists and researchers. To ensure the highest possible sound quality for these historic broadcasts, Vincent Fromont of the Institute’s Restoration/Mastering Audio Department recently acquired six Sonnox Restore Suites.
Charged with safeguarding France’s wealth of significant news and entertainment productions, Fromont reports he selected the Sonnox Restore Suite to advance INA’s audio restoration work. “Sonnox Restore fulfills all our needs for audio restoration and mastering,” he says. “Many of our archives are quite old and not in the best of condition. It’s important to have the best tools available for repairing aurally compromised or damaged recordings. These tools need to be fast, easy to use and, they must sound ‘musical.’ Sonnox Restore meets all these criteria.”
Introduced in October of 2009, the Sonnox Restore Suite consists of three intuitive audio restoration plug-ins: Oxford DeClicker, Oxford DeBuzzer and Oxford DeNoiser. Equipped with advanced algorithms and novel features, Restore provides an efficient and effective option for removing pops, clicks, crackles, scratches, hums, buzzes and extraneous background noise from virtually any recording. The Restore Suite supports Pro Tools (RTAS), Audio Units and VST platforms.
