Extron Electronics is pleased to introduce the MPS 409, a multi-format presentation switcher for digital and analog signals. It combines five independent switchers in a single compact enclosure: 3×1 HDMI with embedded audio, 2×1 DVI, 2×1 VGA/HDTV component video, 2×1 composite video, and 9×1 analog stereo audio. For optimum flexibility in system design, the MPS 409 features three selectable switching modes, including the ability to route all DVI and HDMI sources to the display using a single HDMI cable. EDID Minder™ provides continuous EDID communications between the HDMI, DVI, and VGA sources and the display device and ensures the reliable display of video. HDMI and DVI inputs and outputs are HDCP compliant, ensuring the display of content protected media. The MPS 409 is ideal for use in single-display applications that require a hybrid switcher for integration of digital and analog video sources and associated audio signals, including conference rooms, classrooms, training facilities, and rental/staging. The MPS 409 will start shipping this month.

“Integrators are faced with the challenge of supporting newer digital signal types while maintaining compatibility with legacy analog products in the room,” says Casey Hall, Extron Vice President Sales and Marketing. “As a hybrid digital/analog switcher, the MPS 409 accommodates today’s mixed-signal type needs, while providing a path to the future as more digital sources are added to the presentation system.”

The MPS 409 offers three switching modes that provide flexible signal routing capabilities to address varying system switching requirements. Combine Switcher mode routes all digital sources to the HDMI output. This allows a combination of up to five HDMI or DVI sources to be switched to the HDMI output, simplifying cabling and reducing the total installation time. Single Switcher mode allows one-touch switching from any of the nine inputs. Separate Switcher mode segregates switching operations so that the MPS 409 operates as four separate video switchers under a single point of control.

Extron EDID Minder™ is another powerful feature within the MPS 409. EDID Minder maintains continuous EDID communication and ensures that all HDMI, DVI, and VGA sources power up properly and maintain their video outputs, whether or not they are actively connected to the display device through the switcher’s output. This is particularly useful in busy presentation environments where many different laptops with various display settings are used. HDMI and DVI inputs and outputs are HDCP compliant, ensuring the display of content protected media.

The MPS 409 offers a variety of powerful audio control features, including front-panel MIC and program audio output volume controls that allow for easy and separate adjustment of MIC and program audio volumes. Audio input gain and attenuation allows users to set individual audio input levels so there are no noticeable volume differences when switching between sources. The MIC talk over feature automatically reduces program audio when it detects a microphone signal, eliminating the need for a separate stand-alone audio ducking processor.
