A virtual press conference from Sound & Video Contractor

Are Projector Lamps Considered E-Waste?

The projector lamp- a user-replaceable part found in projectors and rear-projection televisions. So when the user takes out the spent lamp to replace it, what is it considered? Is it e-waste? Should it be treated as such; the lamp being a component of a consumer electronic, but not necessarily an electronic component?

Projector Lamp Services (PLS) knows about projector lamps. When removed from the projector, these lamps are lamps, i.e. specialty bulbs in specialty housings for specialty applications. They are not e-waste and cannot be brought to an e-waste collection center. But they do have to be recycled. They contain toxic heavy metals like mercury, which can seep into our environment. Few companies specialize in recycling projector lamps. PLS is one of the even fewer companies which recycle them free of charge (and we pay for shipping)!

On this 40th anniversary of Earth Day and every day, PLS strives to make end-users, installers, distributors and integrators aware of the services available to them for handling end-of-life projector lamps. Whether it is simply recycling or using the PLS RelampIt! service, PLS offers a program to fit the needs of our AV industry. We hope to continue to fully support all those who make the decision to relamp and recycle projector lamps with us. Happy Earth Day!

Projector Lamp Services, LLC, provides RelampIt! re-lamping services for the projection display industry. PLS also offers a no charge projector lamp recycling service. The PLS Projector Lamp Recycling Center, focuses on reducing waste and environmental mercury contamination from the lamps found in front and rear projectors. PLS is dedicated to encouraging AV users to “think green when it comes to replacement projector lamps. For more information about PLS relamping and recycling, call +1 (631) 244-0051 or visit the website at www.relampit.com.
