Drumming Legend Jonathan Mover Upgrades His Recording Studio With Two New AKG Perception 820 Tube Microphones

With a 30-plus year professional career as a drummer, engineer and producer, Jonathan Mover has been creating award-winning music with a variety of artists, such as Aretha Franklin, Joe Satriani, Shakira, Alice Cooper, Julian Lennon and Fuel to name a few. Additionally, as the owner and operator of Skyline Recording Studios NYC, Mover has had the opportunity to use the market’s best available equipment. It is here that he continues to work with the world’s top musicians using an array of progressive audio technologies that includes two AKG Perception 820 Tube microphones.

Hosting a wide array of musical styles, including Mariah Carey, Billy Joel, Patti Smith, Flo Rida, Jessica Simpson, Gov’t Mule and more, Mover makes certain to outfit Skyline with equipment that is versatile enough to use in any recording situation. With his Perception 820 Tube microphones, Mover says that he is able to install the microphone and keep it in place, while controlling it from the remote unit—regardless of the musician, instrument or application.

According to Mover, the Perception 820 Tube is perfectly suited to handle nearly any recording situation: from lead vocals to lead instruments and even overhead miking of drums. The ECC 83 dual-triode tube circuitry and the output transformer emphasizes even-order harmonics for rich, smooth, 3-dimensional sound that Mover has compared to vintage tube microphones of the past. And with a pair of Perception 820 Tubes, he has used the microphones to obtain a rich, balanced, smooth sound.

“One of the most impressive things about the Perception 820 Tube, in addition to its tremendous sound quality, is the price,? Mover said. “We tested the Perception 820 Tube in a side-by-side comparison with other microphones that were five or six times the price, and it was more than able to hold its own. With the range, the even harmonics and the 3-dimensional sound that come with the Perception 820 Tube, it raises the bar in its class of microphones.?
