Auralex Presents First Class A Fire-Rated Studiofoam Pro
INDIANAPOLIS, IN, June 9, 2010 – Auralex Acoustics, Inc., the industry leader in innovative sound control treatment is proud to introduce another landmark. We are expanding our product line by introducing Studiofoam Pro, the first Class A fire-rated acoustical foam.
Acoustical foam that is Class A fire-rated is revolutionary in the progress of sound control. Not only is it a safer option to have as a precaution in case of a fire, but these ratings pass fire codes which allow it can be used in more public places than standard acoustical foam. Class A fire-rated acoustical foam is approved for use in commercial applications and in public buildings. This is a great solution to reduce noise in large spaces and cut the cost of acoustically treating a large space.
The absorption level has not been tainted by creating acoustical foam that is Class A fire-rated. In fact, the foam maintains the same cell structure, but the cells are smaller, condensing the thickness of the panel. Studiofoam Pro 1.5 thick with height and width dimensions of 8’x9’ maintains an average Noise Reduction Coefficient of 0.90. These panels are offered in charcoal in two sizes 2’ x 2’ x 1.5 and 2’x4’ x 1.5 in the elegant Sonoflat style.
Auralex has run Studiofoam Pro through various fire-rating tests to meet Class A standards. Studiofoam Pro is Class A rated according to ASTM-E84, which evaluates flame spread and smoke density. It passed the UL 94 HF1,2, which is a fire-rating test specifically for nonstructural foam materials like acoustical foam. It also passed MVSS 302, a fire test requirement for materials installed in motor vehicles. Passing the MVSS 302 is significant for product installation in RVs and media vehicles. The last test that Studiofoam Pro passed is the California Technical Bulletin 117 (Cal 117), which contains an open flame test and a smoldering cigarette test.
StudiofoamPro Sonoflats are equally functional at home in a recording studio or a home theater, offering a versatile sophisticated look and a cost-effective choice and now they can be used in schools, institutions, and other venues and locales that have strict fire regulations.
