A virtual press conference from Sound & Video Contractor

GAINESVILLE, GEORGIA – JUNE 2010: Spurred by the success of and accolades for its GH-60 Genesis Horn, which delivers on the promised benefits of the line array without the line array’s significant shortcomings, Danley Sound Labs will introduce the much higher output/full-range response – Jericho Horn – at InfoComm. The Jericho Horn is built upon the same three patent-pending technologies – Synergy Horn, Paraline, and Shaded Amplitude Lens – that marked a new beginning for the industry in the Genesis Horn. It uses six 18-inch low-frequency drivers, six 6-inch mid-frequency drivers, and two 4-inch two-way high-frequency drivers, making it a true four-way design of biblical dimensions. Users will have the option of adding 20,000 Watts of self-power and/or user-adjustable DSP.

The line array concept suffers from two major shortcomings: destructive self-interference and a frequency response that varies based on the listener’s distance to the array. The combination of the three Danley patent-pending technologies enable a single Genesis or Jericho Horn to supply even coverage out to multiple hundreds of feet, whereas it requires multiple line array cabinets to produce performance anywhere close to that. This is accomplished as Shaded Amplitude Lens Technology allows as much as 20 dB of gain out of a single cabinet, to be evenly distributed over a very large listening plane. Compared to the more typical 6 dB of gain generated by all other discrete cabinet designs – even those deemed line array cabinets. Moreover, the frequency response of a Genesis or Jericho Horn, due to the Synergy Horn technology, is smooth in all dimensions and the phase response is simply incomparably better. Evidence of this is clearly apparent when listening to a stereo pair of Jericho Horns as they produce imaging that line arrays simply are incapable of producing, including the phantom center image when standing directly between two cabinets. Perhaps the most significant difference is the full-range response of the Jericho Horn as a single cabinet, which will leave listeners amazed that separate subwoofers are not being used.

The unique performance of the Genesis Horn, and now the much larger Jericho Horn, is the brainchild of Tom Danley, who has a unique take on loudspeaker design informed by decades of acoustic research and development outside of the sound reinforcement industry (building acoustic levitators and other similarly sci-fi-sounding gizmos). Thinking outside the box, Danley developed the Synergy Horn technology employed in the company’s flagship SH-50 full-range loudspeaker, along with the Paraline and Shaded Amplitude Lens technology that makes the new horns conform to three critical requirements: high output, appropriate SPL by angle so that everyone from the front row to the back row receives the same impact, and fidelity that impresses even audiophiles.

“In every respect, the Jericho Horn is a vastly better alternative to the problematic line array solution that the industry has ‘settled’ for,” said Mike Hedden, president of Danley Sound Labs. “Its output is monstrous, yet so pleasant to listen to. There is nothing comparable on the planet. I challenge any line array solution, at any price, to even approach the Jericho Horn’s performance. This is reference quality typically only heard at close distances, yet being delivered at hundreds of feet away. It occurs to me that for a time, slide rules were indispensable to engineers, physicists, and others who worked with numbers; but then something better came along, and they don’t use slide rules anymore. It will come as no surprise that I view line arrays as the slide rules of the sound reinforcement industry.”
