West Village Production/Post Complex Adds 14,000 Sq Ft.

NEW YORK: Mega Playground, the 16-year-old multi-faceted film/TV production/post-production complex, has acquired a 14,000 sq. ft. floor at 96 Morton Street, one block from their primary 30,000 sq ft. multi-floor facility at 609 Greenwich Street. Situated at the focal point of NY’s flourishing film and TV community, the firm also maintains a busy mid-town editing satellite and high-end screening room in the famed Brill Building at Broadway & 49th Street.

“The opportunity to enhance our footprint in this neighborhood presented itself at an excellent time,” remarked Playground principal Eitan Hakami. “We recently carved an audio post production suite out of our existing Greenwich Street space, and an additional expansion of our audio services is already on the drawing boards. Our new floor at 96 Morton St. is already at 100% capacity with a number of production clients including IFC’s Whitest Kids You Know and Onion News Network, and The Onion Sports Network for Comedy Central”

The Playground’s proximity to the creative hub of NY’s film and TV center, coupled with its multiplicity of services has provided a steady churn of long and short term clients for the busy complex. Playground Operations Manager Cristina Esteras Ortiz points out “We’ve made every effort to present clients with a one-stop shop for all their production needs. Whether it’s our proprietary DP Dailies service, AVID/FCP rentals, HD finishing, or Red Services, we’ve tried to anticipate all their needs and to maintain all these services under one roof.”

“We’ve also developed a free service we’ve labeled ‘Think Tank Consultation,’” Hakami adds. Our technical and creative staff excels in helping clients think through the constantly changing menu of technical options. “The service is a perk for our in house clients and a great opportunity for us to stretch our own legs.
“By drawing from the cumulative problem solving experience of our Chief Technology Officer, colorists, editors, sound mixers, and tech support staff, our clients benefit from recommendations they might not have previously encountered,” Hakaimi concludes. “We’ve progressed so far beyond the traditional landlord/tenant role that many clients consider us valuable assets with a vested and genuine interest in the success of their shows.”

Recent Mega Playground projects include the Barry Levinson/Al Pacino “You Don’t Know Jack” feature for HBO, the NBC TV drama Mercy and hundreds of hours of finishing work for shows airing on A&E, TLC, Spike, IFC, Comedy Central and Discovery Channels.
