Sa-rang Community Church Upgrades with KUDO

LOS ANGELES — Artesia, California-based UBI-TECH, a design-build contracting firm serving the house of worship market, reports that it installed an L-ACOUSTICS KUDO system at Sa-rang Community Church in Anaheim earlier this year.

With its 80-member choir, 25-piece orchestra and two full praise teams for Korean and English services, it is obvious that Orange County’s largest Korean megachurch places a significant emphasis on its music ministry. So when the time came to update its aging PA setup, Sa-rang’s technical crew spent nearly four months researching what would be the best retrofit option for its 1,500-seat sanctuary.

“We listened to many different manufacturers’ loudspeakers, but the KUDO demo that Dan Palmer did for us at L-ACOUSTICS’ facility in Oxnard was simply the clear winner,” says UBI-TECH Sound Designer Joseph Kim, who dually serves as Sa-rang’s FOH engineer. “From then on, KUDO was our favorite choice.”

As a result, the decision was made to fly four L-ACOUSTICS KUDO cabinets per side, plus a four-piece dV-DOSC array in between for front-fill. Two SB28 per side are positioned beneath the KUDO hangs for LF reinforcement, and the entire FOH system is powered by seven LA8 amplified controllers.

The church also upgraded its monitor system with the addition of five coaxial 115XT HiQ enclosures for the praise teams and six 12XT systems for the pastor, choir and sidefill. The L-ACOUSTICS monitors are driven by a total of three LA4.

Having enjoyed the new system for several months now, Kim adds, “Our sanctuary sounds awesome! The system really has a lot of ‘muscle’, which is great because our praise teams like to run their levels fairly hot. Now they finally have a system that can keep up with them!”
