Compix Enhances SchoolSmart(TM) Package With Interfacing and Connectivity for EZNews Production and Automation

IRVINE, Calif. — Aug. 30, 2010 — Compix, a leading developer of professional character generators (CGs), announced today that their SchoolSmart(TM) graphics add-on package for educational institutions now features interfacing and connectivity with news production and news automation from EZNews. Available for any Compix CG system, the affordable SchoolSmart package includes 10-years of unlimited offline GenCG software licenses for students, instructors, and faculty members, who now can use their own computers and the familiar GenCG software interface to create graphics that are automation-capable and ready for air.

“A large percentage of our installed customer base is in the educational sector, and the Compix SchoolSmart package is a terrific tool for students at colleges, universities, and a growing number of high schools,” said Gerald Jensen, director of operations at EZNews. “Now equipped with support for our news production and news automation, the SchoolSmart package allows students to create graphics packages that are fully compatible with automation. As a result, students gain greater hands-on experience with automation and a better understanding of how automation relates to the graphics packages they create.”

EZNews is a fully integrated news production, prompting, and automation system that neatly binds all essential functions into a single package. Configurable to address a variety of specific needs, it includes script-writing, show production, show templates, and prompting tools, as well as numerous modules that facilitate the news production workflow. The system is in use at more than 200 sites, running on both Windows(R)-based PCs and Mac(R) systems.

The interfacing and connectivity of SchoolSmart with EZNews eliminates the need for students to tag or otherwise adapt Compix graphics for use with automation. Students can easily use GenCG to create high-impact titles and graphics, working with the software’s many clip art images, fonts, professional templates, and stylish backgrounds, and take graphics right to air. The convenience of the SchoolSmart package allows students and faculty to build graphics on their own computers, save and transfer their graphics via network or USB drive, and bring them to the main Compix system in class or in the lab for easy retrieval and playback.

Compix’s GenCG software is equipped with an intuitive interface and logically set playback controls. It also offers a sizeable array of features — such as rolls and crawls, more than 250 transitional effects, and user-definable clocks and timers — that help users to create brilliant graphics, online or offline, locally or remotely, and incorporate them into live production. Because GenCG uses Microsoft(R) Windows(R) language settings and fonts, it ensures multilingual support and allows graphics staff to take advantage of unlimited TrueType(R) font styles. GenCG’s Style Catalog offers easy access to frequently used graphics, colors, font attributes, and templates.

“The Compix SchoolSmart package makes it easier for students to gain hands-on experience and to establish skills in building high-quality broadcast graphics, while EZNews support adds greater depth and value to this learning environment as students prepare for the professional realm,” said Veronica Kim, Compix president. “We’re pleased that through SchoolSmart, we’ll be working even more closely with EZNews to provide robust yet affordable broadcast solutions to the education market.”
