U.S. SENATE RECORDING STUDIO UPGRADES SENATORIAL VIDEO TELECONFERENCING CAPABILITIES WITH 18 HITACHI CAMERAS

WOODBURY, NEW YORK –The U.S. Senate Recording Studio, the in-house audio/video service provider for the U.S. Senate, ordered 18 new Hitachi DK-H32 720p/60p compact HDTV camera heads in the summer of 2010 as part of an effort to upgrade the video teleconferencing capabilities within U.S Senator’s offices.

This recent order supplements two previous orders—for 38 DK-H32 cameras acquired between 2007 and 2010; and 18 DK-H31 HDTV cameras acquired between 2006-2007—bringing the total complement of Hitachi 720p/60p cameras up to 74.

Many U.S. senators, who occupy offices near the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC, use the Hitachi DK-H32 and DK-H31 cameras to video teleconference with their colleagues in the Senate, as well as with constituents in their home states. The U.S. Senate Recording Studio selected the 2/3-inch Hitachi 3-CCD 720p/60p HDTV camera heads because they deliver the best high definition picture quality from a compact and reliable robotic infrastructure application camera.

The Hitachi HD cameras are outfitted with either a Fujinon A20x8.6BEMD SD lens with 8.6-172mm focal length or a Fujinon A42x9.7BERD telephoto lens with 9.7-410mm focal length. Both SD lens models are equipped with 2x extenders to increase their zoom range.

The video teleconference and mobile video production upgrade is an on-going project being handled by K2 Audio, a systems integration company in Boulder, CO., with the help of General Communications, a Virginia-based systems integrator and many broadcast video equipment suppliers. K2 Audio (http://www.k2audio.com) has provided audio/video systems integration services to the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives for many years, including the U.S. Senate Chamber, U.S. Capital Visitors Center and many Congressional hearing rooms.

The Hitachi DK-H32 and DK-H31 HD cameras replace legacy Hitachi SD cameras, including the Z-2000, Z-2010A, HV-D5W and HV-D3 models. The existing remote and camera control infrastructure and protocols for these SD cameras were easily upgradable to accommodate the new Hitachi DK-H32 and DK-H31 HD cameras.

The U.S. Senate Recording Studio also purchased and owns six Hitachi SK-555 EFP camera systems with SDI adapters for use in a mobile truck application. The Hitachi SK-555 EFP cameras are 4:3/16:9 switchable cameras with SDI adapters, signal-to-noise ratio of >63dB, 12-bit A/D conversion, and 640,000 IT CCD’s.

“We’re extremely pleased that the U.S. Senate Recording Studio has placed another order for our DK-H32 and DK-H31 HD broadcast quality cameras,? said Sean Moran, Vice President of Sales for Hitachi Kokusai Electric America, Ltd. “We value our long-term relationship with the U.S. Senate Recording Studio and the confidence and trust they place in our products and services.?
