AVI-SPL University Event Winners Rave Over New LifeSize Passport Video Conferencing Systems

Ten LifeSize Passports Awarded During 2010 AVI-SPL University Events

Ten lucky attendees left this year’s AVI-SPL University events with more than insight into the latest communication technology – the grand prize at each event was a LifeSize® Passport™. A portable device that connects to any standards-based video endpoint, the Passport can be easily set up in the home, office or other locations to provide outstanding quality — 720p30 high-definition (HD) resolution – for an immersive, lifelike communications experience. The winners are thrilled about their new video conferencing systems, utilizing the Passports to connect them to business professionals, friends and family.

Theo Economidies, President and CEO of Greenline Emeritus Consulting in Chicago, was a video conferencing veteran and uses the LifeSize Passport system when he travels. He said, “I am building [the LifeSize Passport] into a shippable travel case so that I can send it out to remote locations to use for a variety of needs (remote depositions, remote court appearances, and so on).?

Economidies not only enjoys using the system when travelling; he also finds the Passport is a conversation-starter. “I bring the camera and the codec to presentations that I give so that people can see just how small and powerful this system is,? he said. “Just today, I had the Passport components sitting out on a table in a business networking breakfast meeting. It generated a lot of curiosity. What surprised me is that people assumed that the camera (with its small stand) was actually a microphone! After a moment, I realized that it does kind of look like one, so I educated them by saying, ‘Not only is it a microphone, but it’s also an HD camera,’ at which point I removed the plastic cap so that they could see the camera lens.? He finished by saying, “That was great fun!?

Scott Steffan, President and CEO of SVL Solutions in Pennsylvania, is also an avid user and supporter of video conferencing. Steffan recently received his prize and is “very excited to set it up and start using it.? He plans to use the Passport system to video conference with his clients and contractors, both near and far. “When I got the LifeSize box in the mail, I felt like a kid on Christmas. I can’t wait to start playing with it to see the different ways I can use it,? said Steffan.

Other winners from across the country plan to use their Passport systems in a variety of ways. Several winners have donated the Passport to their churches, where it’s being used to participate in live events and connect with home-bound parishioners. Others have given the systems to local schools for distance learning. A few recent winners said they plan to use the Passport at home to place video calls to long-distance family and friends.

One theme rang true with all of the winners: a sense that the Passport would bring users a little closer to the people they were connecting with, be it a client, colleague, student or friend.
