A virtual press conference from Sound & Video Contractor

— Legendary producer and now co-owner of Anarchy Studios finds that moving from Los Angeles to Nashville was seamless because GC Pro has him covered in both cities —

Bob Ezrin has had a lot of continuity in his career. The producer for artists including Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd, KISS and Peter Gabriel, Ezrin – an inductee to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame perhaps best known as co-producer of Pink Floyd’s iconic LP The Wall – continues to work with many of those same artists today, including last year’s Scratch My Back with Gabriel, and extending his long relationship with Cooper through Welcome 2 My Nightmare: The Shriekquel, currently in production. So it’s not surprising that Ezrin has relied on Guitar Center Professional (GC Pro), the outside sales division of Guitar Center that focuses on the needs of professional users, to keep him at the cutting edge of technology no matter where he’s working.

Ezrin’s Anarchy Studios in Nashville is his new home base, after many years working in Los Angeles and New York, and a stint as chairman of Live Nation’s Recordings division, which developed the GRAMMY® Award-winning Zac Brown Band. Nashville is also home to his most recent business venture, Nashville’s Bigger Picture Group, with partners including Keith Stegall, Alan Cates and Michael Powers.

But no matter where he’s been based, Ezrin has always had a GC Pro connection close by. His SSL AWS 900+SE console – his “Pro Tools on steroids? rig – and most of the rest of Anarchy’s gear was sourced through GC Pro. “The console we got from SSL through GC Pro, along with the custom desk that it sits in, and GC Pro set us up here. My whole rig is GC Pro-based,? he says, including his Universal Audio 2192 stereo converter/clock Apple Mac Pro computer, Waves Mercury Bundle, URS Channel Strip Pro, Stylus RMX, Sound Toys bundle V4, Eventide Anthology II, SPL Transient Designer and an array of other gear.

“I have a special relationship with Guitar Center – they’ve always taken really, really good care of me. Dave Weiderman out in Los Angeles has been absolutely great and Chad Evans here is really fabulous. We work really closely with Chad at the Nashville store.? In fact, GC Pro was as much a source for advice and technical assistance as it was a resource for any technology and products at great prices that Ezrin – who lightheartedly describes himself as having “always been painfully and expensively ahead of my time? – could ever want or need. “When we put this system together we sat down with Chad and we discussed all of the different options right down to the wiring and the patch bay and just how to put it all together. Chad gave us great advice.?

Even a technology-forward person like Ezrin can find it difficult to stay on top of all the new products, and that’s where GC Pro can fill in the knowledge gaps. For instance, Ezrin’s partner in the studio, Justin Cortelyou, was at first skeptical about a particular replacement drum trigger plug-in. “At first, I didn’t buy it,? Cortelyou recalls, “but then Chad said ‘trust me, it’s going to be cool’ and for most applications it’s great. He’s good at solving problems and working with what you need.?

Ezrin echoes that assessment: “He’s turned us on to some really great gear [like] a beautiful microphone that we wouldn’t have tried otherwise. He helped us make the decision on the architecture of the whole Pro Tools rig so that we have maximum flexibility and super power, and we’re very happy with it. If there’s a need that we have that we can’t fulfill with the gear that we have, we go right to Chad and GC Pro.?
