AVI-SPL Awards NEC Projector to Pemayetv Emahakv Charter School
School Earned the Most Votes for AV Week Projector Giveaway Contest
After an exciting AV Week Projector Giveaway contest, AVI-SPL recently awarded the NEC Display projector to the winning school Pemayetv Emahakv Charter School in Okeechobee, Florida.
In honor of 2010’s AV Week, AVI-SPL teamed up with NEC Display to present a new NEC M260X projector to a K-12 school in the U.S. To enter, schools were asked to submit a 140-character response to “Why does your school need a new projector? All entries were then posted on AVI-SPL’s blog for the public to vote. More than 40 schools entered the contest and more than 2,000 votes were cast. With a total of 401 votes, Pemayetv Emahakv Charter School took the prize, just 10 votes ahead of the next school.
“Many of the teachers, students and their families stayed up late the night of the contest because we were all so excited to see the final results, said Alisha Pearce, Media Specialist, Pemayetv Emahakv Charter School. “I knew at midnight when the contest closed that our school had won.
Pemayetv Emahakv Charter School is located on the Brighton Seminole Reservation in Glades County, Florida. The K-8 school opened on the reservation in August 2007 and today teaches 233 students. Founded by the Seminole Tribe in order to maintain the tribe’s cultural with future generations, Pemayetv Emahakv fills its curriculum with Seminole cultural, language and arts and crafts classes.
“We’re planning to use our projector in the school’s media center so we can create a 21st century learning environment, Pearce said. “The students love the technology – they’re actively involved and they learn so much. The hands-on approach is the way to go with education.
Pemayetv Emahakv partnered up with AVI-SPL back in 2008 to begin implementing more technology into the classroom. Today, the school has a SMART board in every classroom in addition to document cameras, SMART slates and SMART interactive response systems.
“We want our students to be interactive with their learning and technology allows for that, said Russ Brown, Principal & CEO of Pemayetv Emahakv Charter School. “The teachers are able to make creative lesson plans utilizing the technology and AVI-SPL’s training has helped the teachers get comfortable the technology.
