Sinclair Stations to Roll Out New Chyron BlueNet(TM) Graphics Workflow

BlueNet(TM) With AXIS to Streamline Sinclair’s Centralized Graphics Creation Model

LAS VEGAS — April 10, 2011 — Chyron today announced that Sinclair Broadcast Group is implementing the new Chyron BlueNet(TM) graphics workflow. Sinclair’s 13 news-producing stations will use BlueNet to achieve fully automated news graphics production and distribution. Installed and integrated by TI Broadcast Solutions Group, the new Chyron BlueNet is a suite of tools used for end-to-end workflow and order management.

BlueNet will enable Sinclair’s graphics hub, located at corporate headquarters in Hunt Valley, Md., to create and push content to servers at each news-producing station. Sinclair is also outfitting 20 stations with Chyron’s Channel Box² channel branding system.

“The Chyron graphics solution we’re deploying will enhance the consistency and quality of our broadcast graphics, help our staff to work more efficiently, and streamline our overall workflow, from news production to our on air product,” said Del Parks, vice president of engineering and operations at Sinclair Broadcast Group. “As we create a look and feel for each market, the power and flexibility of Chyron’s BlueNet workflow — including AXIS — make it easy for us to give stations the sophisticated and striking graphics they want. At the same time, the addition of Chyron’s Channel Box² system will improve the supply chain and enable individual stations to raise the quality of their branding, promos, and tickers.”

Chyron’s BlueNet workflow is a complete production and playout solution featuring integrated electronic ordering and graphics asset management, collaborative cloud tools, as well as comprehensive and dynamic business intelligence and reporting. Electronic order management allows users to order graphics and watch them move from the request to the art department and through to playout without any manual intervention.

The company’s AXIS online graphics creation services complement BlueNet, simplifying and speeding the creation of complex graphics such as custom maps and charts. All graphics — news opens, lower thirds, OTSs, double-ender backgrounds, and full-frame graphics — can be played to air from a single point.

Sinclair is rolling out the BlueNet workflow across all of its news-producing stations, starting with KABB FOX San Antonio in Texas; WZTV FOX 17 in Nashville, Tenn.; and WGME 13 in Portland, Maine. The deployment of Chyron Channel Box² will give the stations more robust tools for creating news and informational tickers for events such as school closings, elections, and weather alerts.

“From hub to local news station, BlueNet supports Sinclair’s centralized graphics workflow by enabling the smooth creation, management, distribution, and playout of superior broadcast graphics,” said Michael Wellesley-Wesley, president and CEO at Chyron. “As Sinclair deploys BlueNet, its stations will not only reduce cycle time from creation to air, but also gain access to rich 3D graphics creation tools and powerful new playout capabilities.”
