SSL DEMONSTRATES EXPANDED CAPABILITY OF C100 HDS WITH NEW V4 SOFTWARE AT IBC 2011

New Features Extend Capability, Productivity and Connectivity for Broadcasters

AMSTERDAM – Solid State Logic will feature its new V4 Software for the industry standard C100 HDS Digital Broadcast Console for the first time at IBC 2011 (Hall 8. Stand D83). Demonstrating on-going development of the industry standard C100 HDS, the new V4 Software release, announced at NAB 2011, offers new features and options that significantly increase capability, productivity and connectivity for the high-end broadcaster. The V4 software package, which has generated keen interest from the industry, is available now as an upgrade.

“As broadcasters across the world are implementing systems to enhance and streamline the production process to meet budget considerations, SSL is responding with its new V4 software package for the C100,? says Niall Feldman, director of new products for Solid State Logic. “V4 delivers exceptional power to the broadcast facility with enhanced integration with third-party broadcast systems and though our unique ‘Production Assistant’ tools, which integrate, streamline and automate key broadcast tasks.?

Highlights of the new software include ‘C-Play,’ another industry first from SSL, which embeds a professional audio playout system into the console surface, delivering superior ergonomics for the operator and integrated recall of playlists with console projects. Compatibility with external studio systems is significantly enhanced; V4 includes integration with Mosart Medialab Newscast Automation. Mosart is one of the world’s leading production automation systems and adds to existing support for Sony ELC and Ross Overdrive. Continuing with the integration theme, full-duplex connectivity with Reidel RockNet Audio Networks (including remote preamp control and compatibility with their Independent Gain System) expands compatibility with installed audio networks. ‘Audio Follow Video’ capabilities are also enhanced with independently programmable ramp on/off fade times.

Improving on a class leading set of redundancy capabilities, V4 introduces Loop Redundancy Mode for the SSL MORSE Stagebox and the new Alpha-Link Live-R MADI I/O unit. Building on the success of the Alpha-Link Live low-cost console I/O unit, the new Alpha-Link Live-R unit adds a set of Redundant MADI optical fibre connections to the existing Alpha-Link Live low-cost console I/O unit. The new Loop Redundancy Mode reduces the number of cables required for redundant fibre system installation and doubles the amount of audio signals that can be passed between the C10/C100 and the modular B-RIO I/O Unit.

V4 also brings several surround production additions. The 5.1 Foldown system adds user adjustable individual Center, Rear (LS and RS) and LFE gain setting, an overall stereo output level trim and a new M-3/M-6 mono fold-down option. A new 5.1 BLITS Tone Ident generator routes to all 5.1 format PGM, ASG, Channel and Utility Buses.

Portable Suitcase Design Allows for
High Quality Video Transmission in an Easy to Use Package

AMSTERDAM, SEPTEMBER 10, 2011 – Integrated Microwave Technologies, LLC (IMT), a Business Unit within the Vitec Group’s Videocom Division, and a leader in advanced digital microwave systems serving the Broadcast, Sports & Entertainment and MAG (Military, Aerospace & Government) markets, introduces its RF Central PHT-IV portable high power transmitter, specifically designed for the African broadcast market, at the 2011 IBC Show (Hall 1, Stand D40).

Incorporating the RF Central award-winning microLite HD transmitter, the PHT-IV HD upgradable portable digital transmitter is flexible in design, allowing the microLite camera transmitter to be used standalone at 100 mw or with an integral power amplifier that delivers 5W output power.

“We continue to witness the phenomenal growth of the broadcast sector across all African countries,? says Integrated Microwave Technologies President Stephen Shpock. “This growth was made possible by opening Africa’s broadcast market to new investment and competition from IPTV and satellite operators as well as an increase in advertising revenues and available TV channels. The PHT-IV was designed to provide the emerging markets with a reliable and cost-effective product that can handle their new video transmission needs.?

Configured as the PHT-lV-H model, the transmitter is available with a standard 7W power output. The PHT-IV is highly portable and purpose-built with a tough plastic miniature suitcase design. It is ideal for use as a temporary transmitter for fixed or mobile applications.

The unit boasts a simple and user-friendly design with top-mounted controls that include all fundamental MPEG video and channel programming parameters. In addition, there is a linear variable attenuator to control power output. Power on/off and over-temperature alarm indication is also available. Cooled by three internal high velocity fans and housed in a weather-resistant case, the PHT-IV can operate in either a closed or open case configuration.

The PHT-IV can transform virtually any vehicle into a COFDM digital microwave “live car? with access to 12 VDC and the addition of an optional antenna. The PHT-IV is also usable in a fixed position or standalone mode for temporary transmit application.
Available formats include 480i, 576i, 720p and 1080i. The unit can be configured to accept composite, component, HD, SDI and ASI inputs. Audio capabilities include analog, digital AES and fully embedded audio.

“It is becoming increasingly difficult for African broadcast operators to keep up with the pace of the pursuit for viewers and subscribers, as licensed and unlicensed operators embrace new technologies such as online and mobile TV,? adds Shpock. “Broadcasters will also face another challenge due to the imminent switch to all digital broadcasting while the number of new competitive television and radio stations will continue to grow. The PHT-IV is an example of IMT’s commitment to providing the global broadcast industry with solutions that allow them to operate more efficiently in today’s ever changing environment.?

imt-rf-central-microlite-elite-system.jpg

The RF Central microLite HD Elite system is a complete video RF link in a portable package, with all required accessories specifically chosen to optimize total system performance. Featuring IMT’s award-winning microLite HD Transmitter and microLite HD Receiver, this complete setup includes hand selected antennas that are optimized for high gain, durability and low weight, providing exceptional range without compromising microLite HD’s signature portability. The receiver and transmitter are available in both the 5.8 GHz unlicensed or 2 GHz licensed bands.

“After its successful debut at this year’s NAB show, we are delighted to introduce our portable RF Central microLite HD Elite system to the European market at IBC,? says Integrated Microwave Technologies President, Stephen Shpock. “The microLite system provides a complete video RF link in a performance optimizing portable package that allows the user to set up an RF video solution with confidence.?

The microLite HD ultra-compact MPEG-4 COFDM digital transmitter can deliver up to 200mW from a package of less than six cubic inches and features superb H.264 HD and SD encoding capabilities while operating in the standard 2k DVB-T COFDM mode. The H.264 video encoder supports the main profile of the H.264 standard, providing a 30 percent bit rate reduction or video quality improvement compared to encoders, which only support the H.264 baseline profile.

This allows users to place the receiver in demanding locations and know that it will stay in place and achieve optimal reception.

The transmitter mounting has light weight and simplicity at its core. To keep the microLite truly “light,? a camera shoe bracket provides just the right support with minimal added weight to the handheld camera.
In addition, a configurable DC power cabling system and AC power supply allows many options when connecting the system in the field. The adapters and cables can be mixed and matched between the receiver and transmitter for total flexibility, ensuring the user won’t get caught with mismatched power cables ever again.

The entire microLite HD Elite system is packaged in a waterproof pelican case that can go anywhere. The case is custom fitted for all the accessories and has extra space for cables and adapters.
