Story Teller FX Group Provides Look Solutions’ Foggers and Hazers to Four Motion Picture Shoots

Cogan's Trade

Cogan's Trade

Look Solutions’ foggers and hazers have been racking up motion picture credits lately with Story Teller FX Group providing sales and rentals of Unique hazers and Viper NT and Power-Tiny foggers to no less than four feature films. Story Teller is a special effects equipment rental and supply company based in Jefferson, Louisiana.

“I’ve been in this business for a long time, and there isn’t a manufacturer with a fog or haze machine that I haven’t used or stocked,” says Bob Riggs who heads Story Teller and Seattle-based Riggs Production Associates, Inc., which boasts the largest SFX rental equipment inventory in the Pacific Northwest. “Look Solutions makes the best products – there’s no two ways around it. Look foggers and hazers have the reliability and dependability film shoots require.”

Story Teller sold Viper NT foggers to “GI Joe 2: Retaliation,” which shot in New Orleans and stars Bruce Willis. The Viper NT unites current digital technology with proven technique and power. It features DMX 512 as standard, has an internal timer and easy-to-use LED-display panel, and offers fine adjustment of the output to produce everything from a tiny fog cloud to the thickest fog.

The company also sold a complement of Unique2 hazers, Viper NT foggers and Power-Tiny foggers to the remake of “Total Recall,” which shot in Toronto with Colin Farrell starring. Look Solutions’ Unique2 haze machine offers minimal warm up time, minimal noise and minimal fluid consumption. Its new, more efficient fan quickly distributes haze in a room, and its variable output can achieve any desired effect from the finest mist to a thick haze similar to fog.

The Power-Tiny is the perfect alterative to normal fog generators in any situation where fog is needed quickly and efficiently. Small, lightweight and battery-powered, Power-Tiny boasts a heat-up time of only one second, an adjustable output and minimal fluid consumption.

Riggs served as SFX coordinator on “Cogan’s Trade” when it shot in New Orleans. Through Story Teller he rented Viper NT foggers and Unique2 hazers to the production, which stars Brad Pitt as a mob enforcer.

Riggs’ partner in Story Teller, John Baker, acted as SFX coordinator for “Bullet to the Head,” another New Orleans shoot. The film, which stars Sylvester Stallone and is based on a French comics series, rented Unique2 hazers and Viper NT foggers from Story Teller.

Imagina US Manages Traffic, Programming for Cable Networks with Broadway Systems

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Broadway Systems, the leading provider of advertising management software for cable networks, announced today that Imagina US, a leader in Hispanic entertainment programming, has selected Broadway’s end-to-end software platform to manage traffic and programming for four cable networks at its U.S. headquarters in Miami.

Imagina US began using the Broadway Traffic and Finance, Program Management, and Reporting modules for back office operations on May 30 for CentroaméricaTV, which provides programming from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama; Pasiones Latin America and Pasiones US, two 24-hour channels dedicated to “telenovelas;” and Televisión Dominicana, which features a variety of programming from the Dominican Republic.

Marilyn Vidal-Novo, traffic manager, Imagina US, said the transition to Broadway from the previous traffic system was very easy. “The implementation of the Broadway software was the best conversion I’ve ever done,” she explained. “Based on my previous experience transitioning many software systems, I expected a delay. There was no delay whatsoever, and the implementation exceeded my expectations.“

Imagina US has a unique business model that relies on agencies for sales orders, not its own sales team. However, as its cable networks grow and an in-house sales staff is added, Imagina US will be able to seamlessly add the Broadway Sales Planning and Proposal module to the current configuration.

“With its user-friendly interface, Broadway’s reliable, end-to-end solution simplifies the management of day-to-day activities as well as the transition from other systems,” said John Sorensen, president of Broadway Systems. “Our modular approach will also make it easy for Imagina US to accommodate the future growth of its networks and sales department.”

About Imagina US
Imagina US operates through its subsidiaries: Promofilm, dedicated to the production of content and TV formats, and Media World, a division focused on the development and distribution of thematic channels, exploitation rights, and technical services in the audiovisual field. The front panel features only single-function knobs, a power switch, and eight car radio-style “Favorites” buttons.
Focused on creating a realistic piano performance in a live environment, the SV-1 features stereo balanced XLR outputs for direct connection to a sound system, traditional quarter-inch outputs for a stage amplifier, and connections for a damper pedal, an assignable pedal (commonly used for expression or wah), and an assignable footswitch (commonly used to control rotary speaker simulation speed). Guitar Center Professional Has Strong Showing at AES 2011

— With new product launches and high-profile booth attendees, GC Pro was present in full force at this year’s convention —

Guitar Center Professional (GC Pro), the outside sales division of Guitar Center that focuses on the needs of professional users, again had a strong showing at this year’s AES convention, which took place October 21-23, 2011, at the Javits Center in New York City. GC Pro has been celebrating its 10th anniversary throughout 2011 as the organization continues to grow, and AES was the perfect opportunity to highlight the new and exciting things that they have to offer.

At the booth, GC Pro showcased some of the products that they exclusively distribute in the U.S., such as the Neve Genesys Console, which sports new enhanced functionality and many new features; the new Ocean Way HR-3 High Resolution Reference Monitor System, which provides virtually unlimited dynamic range while maintaining absolutely matched uniform frequency response between channels; and the new Sterling Audio ST6050 Ocean Way Signature Series Microphone, a limited-edition Class-A FET studio mic.

GC Pro’s booth also served as a meeting place for some of the show’s most notable attendees, among them Germano Studios’ Troy Germano, Ocean Way Recording’s Allen Sides and legendary producer/engineer Alan Parsons.

Richard Ash, GC Pro Business Development Manager for the Eastern Region, noted, “As GC Pro has grown rapidly over the past few years, so have our relationships with the leading figures in our industry. We are proud that they choose GC Pro as their supplier partner, and we are thrilled to have such incredibly influential and discerning minds spend their time at our booth, interacting with each other and the GC Pro team. But aside from the more notable names, we had all manner of talented and rising producers, engineers, studio owners, artists, bloggers, students and gear addicts here at the booth. They are the future leaders in our industry, and as such they are incredibly important to its vitality and success. As GC pro continues to grow, part of our mission is to ensure that these young professionals have all the tools at their disposal to grow with us, and move our industry forward. I think I can speak for everyone here that the mix of people who passed through our booth was a truly special thing, and that the future certainly looks bright.”

GC Pro Vice President Rick Plushner stated, “What can I say? It’s AES – it’s always a highlight of our year, and this was a particularly great show for everyone. With the economy the way it is, early buzz was saying that this show was going to be relatively quiet. But that’s not what we saw – rather, we saw an industry excited about growing, changing and re-imagining itself. Attendance was far higher than expected, and I think we can be extremely optimistic about that. Passion always wins, and the passion for audio on display at this year’s show – not only at the vendors’ booths, but also on the faces of everyone in the Javits Center – was simply inspiring. And GC Pro is poised to be an outlet for that passion. If AES is the organization through which the audio industry learns and grows, we want GC Pro to be the place where it gets its tools. I am very excited as GC Pro moves into its second decade, and we look forward to next year’s AES to again celebrate the state of the industry.”

Custom Integrator Creates A Stealth Whole-House Audio System Using Niles In-Wall And Rock Speakers

CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, November 7, 2011—When designing a whole-house audio system for a 14,000 square foot residence, many integrators use a mishmash of different speakers from several manufacturers, each with different characteristics, abilities and styling, resulting in an inconsistent listening experience and design aesthetic from room to room. Mike Flanagan of Overland Park, Kansas-based Home Systems by Design believes in giving his clients a consistent high fidelity audio experience with components that can be hidden from view, which is why he chose to outfit this 14,000 square foot, 16-audio zone home with 72 Niles® in-wall, in-ceiling and outdoor rock speakers.

Most of the home’s speakers are from the Niles ceiling-mount DS series, which was introduced in 2001 and features Niles’ patented Directed Soundfield technology. This unique technology resolves architectural issues such as cathedral or vaulted ceilings, alignment with in–ceiling lighting, or a plasma display over a fireplace that leaves no space for a center channel speaker. They are perfect for home theater environments and surround sound systems, and they also perform very well in whole-house distributed music applications. Their flexibility enables installers to direct the sound where it needs to go to achieve optimal acoustic performance.

“I have been selling and installing Niles speakers since they entered the residential market more than 30 years ago, and I have never received a single complaint,” said Flanagan. “The superb sound quality keeps the men happy, and the fact that Niles in-wall and in-ceiling speakers are nearly invisible makes the women even happier! And the DS series speakers give the homeowners the best surround sound experience possible with ceiling-mount speakers, which no other manufacturer can match.”

The gem of this system is the media room, which features a 180” 2.35:1 Stewart Filmscreen, a Sim2 LED projector, nine Niles Stagefront speakers and two 15-inch subwoofers, with all the speakers hidden behind paneling—a completely invisible 11-speaker surround sound system! The media room has 12 motorized leather recliners and a full bar in the rear with additional seating for four. It is the ultimate room for hosting parties or fundraisers, which the homeowners plan to do. Home Systems by Design even set up the video system so what is playing in the theater can be rebroadcast throughout the whole house, making it perfect for showing house-wide messaging during the fundraisers.

According to the homeowner, “Home Systems by Design really came through for us and gave us exactly what we wanted. The audio system sounds great throughout the whole house, especially in the theater, and you’d be hard pressed to point out every speaker because they blend into the walls and ceilings so well. When we watch a movie in the media room it really feels like we are at the movies, which is amazing.”

There are 13 flat screen TVs throughout the home, four with surround sound systems, and they can all play content from six DSS receivers, three Apple Mac Minis, two cable boxes and a 400-disc Blu-ray changer. There are also three local Blu-ray players.

The ELAN g! Entertainment and Control System is also integrated with the home’s LiteTouch lighting system, security system and 10-camera surveillance system are also integrated with the ELAN g! system, giving the family total control over their living environment. The homeowners can be access and control the system through seven ELAN TS7 7” touch screens, seven ELAN HR2 remotes, four iPads and two iPhones.

Home Systems By Design builds custom home audio/video and home control systems to meet their customer’s exact needs and budgets. Since opening in 1992, they have worked with a large network of builders in the Kansas City, Kansas Metro Area and come so highly recommended that they get nearly 85 percent of their business from customer referrals.
