Digital Rapids Wins Streaming Media Readers’ Choice Award for Over-the-Top (OTT) Video Solution

November 24, 2011 — Markham, Ontario: Digital Rapids announced today that the StreamZ Live ABR adaptive streaming encoder has been honored with the 2011 Streaming Media Readers’ Choice Award in the Over-the-Top (OTT) Video Solution category. The award was presented during the Streaming Media West conference and exhibition in Los Angeles.

Held annually by Streaming Media magazine and its online properties, the Readers’ Choice Awards recognize the leading streaming and online video solutions, services, companies and innovations as judged by end users, rather than the magazine staff. The award is the sixth Streaming Media Readers’ Choice Award won by Digital Rapids in the past three years, and follows closely on the heels of the company being recognized as one of “the 100 companies that matter most in online video” in the inaugural Streaming Media 100 list.

“Over-the-top” refers to the delivery of video from the content provider to the consumer across networks not owned, managed or controlled by the content provider — for example, video services delivered over the public Internet. Compared to IPTV services across owned, managed networks, over-the-top content providers face greater challenges in ensuring reliable, high-quality viewing experiences for their customers.

StreamZ Live ABR encodes and streams live HD and SD content with superior quality and performance for delivery through the latest generation of adaptive streaming technologies from Adobe, Apple and Microsoft. Adaptive bit rate streaming enables higher-quality viewing experiences with television-like continuity and reliability on the Web, over-the-top (OTT) services and mobile devices. As content is delivered to each viewer, the chosen adaptive delivery technology automatically switches between multiple output streams based on the viewer’s current network and playback conditions, delivering the best possible quality at any given time even under dramatically changing conditions. Building on Digital Rapids’ long-standing simultaneous output abilities, StreamZ Live ABR can create all of the output streams required for adaptive bit rate delivery — including concurrent outputs for multiple target devices — in a single system.

Multiple StreamZ Live ABR encoders can be combined with the scalable Digital Rapids Broadcast Manager software for enterprise-class management, automation, scheduling, multi-channel monitoring and failover.

“We’re excited to be honored once again by the readers of Streaming Media magazine,” said Tony Huang, Senior Product Manager, Broadcast and Live at Digital Rapids. “Over-the-top video services are playing a significant role in the multi-screen distribution landscape, and this award is testament to the benefits StreamZ Live ABR brings these providers in delivering superior video experiences exceeding their audience’s expectations.”
