Rock Church Produces Live Video Streaming with Broadcast Pix Granite 5000

Billerica, Massachusetts – Broadcast Pix™ today announced that the Rock Church and World Outreach Center, based in San Bernadino, Calif., is using its new Granite™ 5000 integrated live video production system to distribute live video of its religious services for a growing Web-based audience, while simultaneously producing an image magnification (I-MAG) video presentation in its sanctuary.

Rock Church upgraded to Granite in May 2011, replacing a Slate™ system that was installed in 2010. According to Luke Cobrae, Rock Church’s video director and young adult pastor, the 2 M/E capability of the Granite 5000 was a primary reason for the upgrade. Both Broadcast Pix systems were installed by VMI, Inc., a systems integrator with offices in California and Washington. The Slate replaced an aging Video Toaster, which had been used since the church relocated to its current campus in 2003.

Established in 1988 in one of the most impoverished big cities in the United States, the non-denominational Rock Church has more than 20,000 members and regularly draws up to 7,000 each week for services Wednesday night, Friday night, Saturday morning, Sunday morning, and Sunday evening. “Video has always been a want, but budget is always a challenge,” said Cobrae. “Broadcast Pix completely opened the door for video production at the church. Our quality instantly skyrocketed.”

The church conducts 10 weekly services; two are streamed live and three others can be accessed at www.rockchurch.com, while a separate I-MAG presentation is produced for the congregation in the sanctuary and distributed across the 25-acre campus, which includes a school, café, and bookstore. The move to Granite also allows Rock Church to send a native HD signal directly to its two Christie LW600 projectors for I-MAG in the church, which significantly cut delay.

“Broadcast Pix went out of their way to make sure we were satisfied and the switcher suited our needs,” Cobrae added. “There’s a big difference between a studio-in-a-box and a Broadcast Pix system.”

Rock Church typically has a six-camera production for its services, including two center cameras, a dedicated camera for the singers and musicians, and a mounted pan/tilt/zoom camera for reaction shots from the congregation. It uses three Sony widescreen digital SD cameras and a combination of other cameras, including Panasonic AG-DVX100 and Sony PMW-EX1 handheld HD cameras. With its integrated frame synchronizers and multi-definition I/O, Granite seamlessly switches between the various sources.

Rock Church also takes advantage of Granite’s built-in Fluent™ workflow tools, including Fluent-View, which is used in conjunction with an Avitech Rainier multi-viewer. Cobrae has replaced the control room’s black-and-white CRT monitors with LCDs that use Fluent-View to display color images and much more information.

During services, Rock Church uses the integrated Fluent Clip Store extensively to provide sermon illustrations and video announcements – and Fluent Watch-Folders provide an easy way to import announcements or last-minute graphic changes. Plus, Granite’s external keyer is used to display lyrics and other graphics from ProPresenter. Cobrae said the production crew is a combination of volunteers and a small team of full-time and part-time staff.

Eventually, Rock Church plans to replace its analog and digital SD cameras with HD studio cameras. Cobrae also wants to explore video distribution to the other four Rock Church satellite campuses in 2012.

Makito(TM) Encoder
The Makito(TM) encoder is the first and only full-featured, high-performance compact encoder to combine the efficiencies of H.264 video compression and full HD video quality in a very small form factor — all at a very competitive price point. And now, the Makito supports constant bit rate (CBR) encoding to assure transport and system-wide compatibilities and, optionally, real-time metadata capabilities. The Makito provides H.264 encoding at up to 1080p60 with the lowest available end-to-end latencies.

KulaByte(TM) Encoder
Haivision will display its newly acquired KulaByte(TM) software encoder, which allows Kulabyte users to deliver live content to multiple sites easily and reliably. Kulabyte features best-in-class adaptive player technology that enables dynamic, real-time updates for dependable online video delivery to desktop or mobile devices. Completely software-based, the KulaByte encoder provides the most efficient use of uplink bandwidth due to extremely high quality-to-bit rate performance and tight bit rate control. With its simple user interface and operation, anyone from trained employees to volunteer teams can reliably deliver the desired results time after time.

KulaByte(TM) Live Cloud Transcoder
Haivision will also show off its KulaByte(TM) live cloud transcoding solution, capable of transforming live video source streams into all of the many formats and data rates required to distribute live video via the Internet. The KulaByte live cloud transcoder delivers live transcoded source video streams to every screen, regardless of device, player, screen size, or bandwidth. The transcoder provides high-quality, reliable, consistent output streams to the full range of playback devices, even when streaming from challenging low-bandwidth environments. Preparing the multiple renditions needed for all of these devices and bit rates previously required additional investment in on-site encoding hardware, bandwidth, and infrastructure. KulaByte eliminates this wasteful per-event overspending and complexity in favor of a flexible, comprehensive cloud-based live streaming platform.

Furnace(TM) 6.0 Including MultiStream(TM) Recording and Advanced Publishing
The highly acclaimed Furnace(TM) IP video system includes advanced recording and publishing features to enable clients to capture and distribute synchronized multistream video content. The VF Recorder module now supports recording and review of up to four simultaneous video streams associated with a combined video asset. During the recording, HotMarks(TM) (real-time metadata) can be applied to all streams either through the user interface or as triggered by third-party control systems. HotMarks enable viewers to search for and jump to specific tagged events quickly. The VF Publisher module establishes automated ingest and publishing of content. After a record process, users can instantly assign content to specific groups, make the content available within the Web portal, email links to specific users or groups, or deposit the content into third-party systems for further editing.

Viper MultiStream(TM) IP Video Streamer/Recorder
Haivision will also feature the Viper, a compact integrated appliance for capturing, streaming, reviewing, distributing, and publishing multistream H.264 content. The Viper can be used as a stand-alone device to bring powerful recording, streaming, and VoD capabilities directly from event centers by capturing and distributing multiple HD video sources or HD video and computer display sources simultaneously. The Viper supports record/review/publish and live-streaming applications. The Viper can also be integrated as a remote contributor to Haivision’s Furnace(TM) IP video system, enabling a distributed recording architecture without relying on central network video recording capacity to accommodate every user.

Torpedo(TM) DVB-to-IP Gateways
Torpedo(TM) allows enterprises to get digital broadcast transmission onto their IP networks without the need for re-encoding the video. Digital satellite (DVB-S/S2) and digital terrestrial (DVB-T/T2) broadcasts contain audio/video programming using industry-standard compression (MPEG-2 or H.264) contained within MPEG-2 transport streams. The Torpedo gateway tunes to particular channels, as delivered over RF by the DVB antennas or satellite dishes, extracts and filters the MPEG transport stream packets, and delivers the program content over IP networks, thereby eliminating the need to re-encode. A single Torpedo can support up to 15 content channels, each rebroadcast as unicast or multicast IP video data streams. Torpedo can be used as a stand-alone solution, or it can be integrated as part of Haivision’s Furnace(TM) IP video system.

Xantech Control Products Once Again Selected for FCCI Insurance Group Offices

Xantech’s WIC1200 and CWTC10 controllers help FCCI run meetings in their executive boardroom

CARLSBAD, CA, December 8, 2011 — Largo, Florida-based Technical Resource Group (TRG) recently completed a major upgrade of the AV systems in the executive boardroom at the corporate headquarters and Florida regional office of FCCI Insurance Group in Sarasota, Florida, which includes control solutions from Xantech, a leader in the field of audio/video remote control and distribution for 40 years. The project also involved the reconfiguration of one of FCCI’s three training/conference rooms, which TRG upgraded two years ago with Xantech touch screen displays and control equipment.

Florida regional office of FCCI Insurance Group in Sarasota, Florida, which includes control solutions from Xantech, an installation accomplished by Largo, Florida-based Technical Resource Group.

Keith Gilliam, TRG System Design/Engineer, was pleased to make a return visit to FCCI in order to install more Xantech equipment. “This is their first upgrade in the executive boardroom; FCCI had grown out of the existing technology and replaced it with state-of-the-art digital audio, video and control technology,” he reveals. “It worked out very well to have Xantech’s WIC1200 Web Intelligent Controller control everything. The Web Intelligent Controller was chosen to manage all of the digital A/V and the system controls, which included the contact closures for the screen and projector lift.”

There are 22 stations located around the conference table in FCCI’s executive boardroom, at which each participant can connect his or her laptop computer, according to Keith Gilliam. The existing VGA inputs at each station were retained and HDMI inputs were added. “This will maintain compatibility with current generation laptops and provide connectivity well into the future,” he explains. “Each of the 22 stations is configured with hi-def video inputs, and we’re controlling the video switcher’s HDMI, VGA and DVI inputs through the Xantech WIC1200.”

Each station is additionally equipped with a Shure MX Series podium microphone, and the room is fully outfitted with ceiling speakers. The microphones and speakers are processed through a Biamp Systems Audia FLEX DSP unit. “The Xantech WIC1200 is controlling the volumes of all of the inputs, where we govern the audio switching along with controlling volumes to the Biamp system,” says Keith Gilliam.

Keith Gilliam reports FCCI requested an easy-to-use system that required no more than one or two button pushes to operate or reconfigure the installed equipment. “We’re also using two Xantech 10.4-inch WiFi CWTC10 Commercial Wireless Touch Controllers as wireless interfaces, so they can have simple control to turn the room on and off. When they turn the system on it lowers the screen, turns on the projector, lowers the projector, and reconfigures the video inputs.”

The executives operating the board meetings can use the Xantech CWTC10 to configure the boardroom to any station or video input they need, he says. “They can call up a station and reconfigure it with a couple of button pushes.” This is made possible by employing Xantech’s recently introduced Web Designer 3.0 software, which provides a simple drag-and-drop programming solution for the easy creation of a customized graphic user interface on any web-based system’s remote control device.

SHAKOPEE, Minn. — Dec. 7, 2011 — Remote Technologies Incorporated (RTI) today announced that the company is now shipping its RTiDock iPod(R) dock. Sporting a host of powerful features not found on other iPod docks — such as the ability to sync with iTunes(R) over the network and full navigation support through a video display device — the RTiDock allows consumers to connect their iPod effortlessly to their local or distributed audio system and conveniently control it through an RTI in-wall or handheld controller.

Simplifying installations with a slim design and the flexibility of rack-mount or desktop options, the RTiDock utilizes Virtual Sync technology to sync with iTunes over the network. For simple, intuitive operation, the device offers an elegant on-screen GUI (graphical user interface) and component video output for intuitive navigation through a video display device. For added reliability and a clean, streamlined design, the unit’s sliding tray provides easy access and discreet storage of the iPod.

The RTiDock offers seamless integration with RTI control devices, providing access to all transport functions of the iPod through full IR support. For more robust control, navigation through artists, songs, albums, and playlists is enabled via bidirectional communication over RS-232 or IP with many RTI handheld and in-wall controllers. For integrators, providing this capability is a must,” said Pete Baker, vice president of sales and marketing for RTI. “Dealers will be blown away with the quality and features offered by the RTiDock! Mississippi DOT Uses Wowza to Simplify and Improve Live, Multi-Screen Video Streaming From 400 Traffic Cameras

Agency Reaches More People More Cost-Effectively With Video Distribution From Wowza Media Server Software

EVERGREEN, Colo. — Dec. 8, 2011 — Wowza(R) Media Systems, the “Any Screen Done Right(TM)” media server software company, today announced that the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) installed Wowza Media Server(R) software to simplify and improve video streaming from its network of nearly 400 traffic cameras throughout the state. The installation was part of an upgrade to MDOT’s intelligent transportation system (ITS).

Live video flows constantly from MDOT cameras to its traffic portal, http://www.msTraffic.com, so that anyone with an Internet connection can keep an eye on traffic. It also streams internally to the traffic management center, where MDOT workers monitor traffic conditions at their workstations. The upgrade to Wowza Media Server software enables MDOT to stream live content from all of its cameras simultaneously to multiple devices, eliminating the need for specialized, client-specific encoders and servers — which means it can reach more people than with its previous streaming method.

“With our previous workflow, the traffic management center received analog video feeds from roadside cameras to be encoded/decoded and then displayed internally on video screens. From there, video had to be re-encoded to go out to the Internet,” stated Timothy Bean, ITS systems specialist for MDOT. “Wowza Media Server software has made it possible to forego all that extra encoding, decoding, and re-encoding equipment, saving us money and space, as well as cutting way down on energy consumption. We removed about 10 racks worth of equipment and replaced it with a single server that’s running Wowza Media Server software.”

Because MDOT can distribute video to any platform quickly and easily, traffic information is available to many more people, no matter what player they use. Giving the public better access to real-time traffic information allows them to make more informed decisions not only day-to-day, but also during evacuations or other emergencies. In turn, an informed citizenry means improved safety, reduced congestion, and decreased likelihood of secondary incidents for the state.

“Wowza Media Server software’s capability to ingest streams directly from IP cameras and stream it out simultaneously over multiple protocols is ideally suited for traffic monitoring and security applications,” said Alex Dobrushin, CMO of Wowza Media Systems. “MDOT’s deployment exemplifies the value our software offers to transportation departments all over the U.S. and in other countries. It provides them with a future-proof platform for delivery of higher-quality video, more cost-effectively, while reaching a broader base of constituents.”

The multiple award-winning Wowza Media Server software is a single extensible foundation for “Any Screen Done Right” media delivery. It makes streaming to computers, smartphones, tablets, and TV screens simple and cost-effective. Improved economies of scale and reduced encoding, storage, and management expense, enable enterprises — large and small — to stream live and on-demand video with ease while saving money, improving efficiency, and streamlining workflow.
