Stampede Announces Plans To Bring Its 2012 Big Book Of AV Tour To 13 Cities In The U.S. And Canada

AMHERST, NEW YORK, December 5, 2011 — Seeking to make its 2012 Big Book of AV Tour (BBOAV) even bigger and more successful than its just completed 2011 tour, Stampede, the leading value-added distributor of professional audio video solutions, today announced plans to bring its phenomenally popular Big Book of AV Tour to 13 cities in the United States and Canada in 2012. What’s more, Stampede said it will double the length of each day’s exhibit hours and increase the number of on-site training programs.

“Our 2011 Big Book of AV Tour was the biggest, most successful tour in the three year history of the program,” Stampede President & COO Kevin Kelly said today. “Frankly, given the fact that we hit nine cities and educated several thousand attendees during the 2011 tour, it’s going to be a challenge to make the 2012 tour even bigger and better — but we have the programs underway that will do just that.”

According to Kelly, increasing the number of cities visited, doubling the length of each day’s exhibit hours, increasing the number and variety of on-site training programs, opening up the tour to more end users, and making affordable video conferencing a centerpiece of every tour stop will help strengthen the BBOAV Tour as the largest event of its kind in North America.

“We’re thrilled that the Big Book of AV Tour continues to grow and reach more dealers each year,” Kelly said. “This tour provides dealers across the country a chance to experience the latest AV technologies and equipment and learn not only how to use them, but also which ones to use for each unique job. When coupled with our Stampede University live training events on topics such as 3D technology, touch technology and digital signage, The Big Book of AV Tour is a dealer’s one-stop event for staying up-to-date on everything AV.”

The Big Book of AV Tour supports and extends the reach of the company’s The Big Book of AV, The Ultimate Audio/Video Resource Book. The 2011 tour offered a chance for dealers to see live projector and display demonstrations and take part in Stampede University live training events on topics such as 3D technology, touch technology and digital signage. In addition, dealers in attendance had the opportunity to become CTS and DSCE certified.

Published each year by Stampede, The Big Book of AV contains more than 800 pages and features thousands of products that are ideal for home theaters, schools, houses of worship and just about any venue. The book offers buyer tips for selecting the right AV equipment and recommends products to enhance the performance of displays and projectors. The book also includes a Manufacturer Resource Section with contact info for every featured brand and a glossary of commonly used AV industry terms to help dealers understand the latest technology language. The Big Book of AV is also available for free online at www.bigbookofav.com and is now compatible with iPhones, iPads and Android mobile devices.

Attendees of the 2011 tour saw the latest solutions from a variety of vendors including Atlas Sound, Avteq, BenQ, Casio, Chief, Epson, Gefen, Hall Research, Hitachi Solutions, Kramer, Lumens, Mitsubishi, Mustang, NEC, Optoma, Peerless, Perfect Path, ProSales, TechGlobal, Samsung, Severtson Screens, Sharp and Sony.

Hitachi CP-AW250N LCD Projectors Deliver a Striking “Surround Video” Viewing Experience in Hilton Nashville Hotel Installation

CHULA VISTA, California, December 5, 2011 — Six Hitachi CP-AW250N ultra-short throw LCD projectors were recently used at the Hilton Nashville Downtown as part of a one-of-a-kind presentation environment for CJ Advertising of Nashville, Tennessee as part of a client event. The uniquely configured audio/visual system was designed and installed by systems contractor Springtree Media Group of Franklin, Tennessee.

“CJ Advertising hosts an annual presentation for their clients and we’ve worked with them for five years,” said Jacob McDaniel of Springtree Media Group. “In the past, we’ve placed the projectors and the screens on the floor in the corners of the room–a pretty conventional approach. But this year CJ wanted to try something fresh and new that would deliver an unforgettable ‘wow factor’ for their clients.”

“Peter Vaque, the owner of Springtree Media Group, dreamed up a striking new look that involved creating a nearly 360-degree viewing experience by suspending six projection screens in the room,” McDaniel continued. “CJ Advertising loved the concept. But then, we had to figure out how to make it happen!”

Springtree Media Group uses Hitachi ultra-short throw projectors in its rental department because many events–including this one–don’t allow for the extra 16 feet typically needed between the projector and the screen. “Our Hitachi ultra-short throw projectors do an excellent job in restricted-space situations,” McDaniel said. “Also, CJ wanted to use 16:9 widescreen projection, so we looked at a number of Hitachi’s short-throw projectors with widescreen capability. The CP-AW250N looked like the perfect fit.”

From there, Springtree Media Group had to figure out how to mount the projectors and screens. “We settled on hanging a 36-foot truss from the ceiling,” McDaniel noted. “From that truss, we hung six widescreen projection screens, oriented so that all attendees could see a screen from any point in the room.”

McDaniel and his team connected I-Beams that ran perpendicular to the long truss and hung the CP-AW250N projectors from the I-Beams. They also attached LED lighting to the beams, to fill the presenter’s walking area with stage lighting and different colors. The installation was rounded out by four LCD monitors angled on the floor, one in each corner of the presenter’s walking area, so the presenter could always see his slides no matter where he walked.

“This installation required a lot of planning up front,” McDaniel said. “We had to run a few tests to determine which projector would work the best, and how big of a screen we could use with that projector. We wanted to make the screens as big as possible, but we had to make sure there was enough room for the presenter to walk underneath them without hitting his head. In addition, we had to figure out how to hang everything in a safe and effective manner.”

With the help of Hitachi’s CP-AW250N projectors, the project came together beautifully. “The images were bright, sharp and vivid and the unique setup really kept everyone’s attention.
CJ Advertising and their clients were very happy with the final product,” McDaniel concluded.

HARMAN’s Studer Vista 5™ M2 Makes French Debut at Paris Hippodrome

PARIS, France – The 35,000-capacity Hippodrome de Paris-Vincennes, which over the years has been as well known for hosting rock concerts as for its main purpose of horse racing, has recently upgraded its production infrastructure.

One of the steps taken by the technical department was to replace its old analogue mixing console with a Studer Vista 5 M2 digital desk, configured with 32 mic/line inputs, 72 line out and eight AES I/O. This was the first sale of the new console in France (and one of the first to be shipped anywhere in the world).

The large venue, with its 3000 sq metre Grand Hall, is a world famous venue for trotting events, with the jockeys pulling a two-wheel cart known as a ‘sulky’. The main track itself measures 2km in length (whereas it is generally only 800m or 1600m in other horse racing arenas).

It is to these meetings, which include the famous ‘Prix d’Amerique’, that the control room itself is dedicated, while the races themselves are displayed on a 100 sq. metre large external screen, one of the largest in Europe.

The venue’s management company SECF (Société d’Encouragement du Cheval Français), contacted Jean-Philippe Blanchard, Broadcast Division Director at Audiopole, the French Studer distributor, with whom they have a long association.

“They were looking for an upgrade to mix the ambient sounds and commentaries within the amphitheatre, both for live playback and broadcast purposes,” stated M. Blanchard.

“The operators were impressed by the quick and easy operation of the Vistonics screen, which gives them instant control over all the channel functions, and by the new metering, which will give them better control of all incoming signals. They also noticed that engineers are able to work for hours at a time on the console without getting tired.”

Installation of the new Vista 5 M2 took place during the month of August when the venue was closed. Its arrival marks the start of a new era of broadcast coverage for a venue that dates back to 1879 — when it was originally built.

Remote Recorders Steps Up Control Room With SSL C200 HD Digital Production Console

C200 used for mixing live events for TV, radio, internet and DVD delivery

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – Remote Recorders, a high-end mixing facility based in Sydney, Australia, recently stepped up its control room with a Solid State Logic C200 HD Digital Production Console. The studio, which features a large, well-equipped control room with associated overdub/vocal booth, mixes live presentations for content providers including iTunes Australia, Abbey Road Studios’ Abbey Road Live Here Now, and music television channels such as Channel [V], Music Max and the Country Music Channel. The C200 allows the studio to handle all post production duties, while delivering a digital version of SSL’s industry standard ergonomic interface.

“Remote Recorders is one of Australia’s foremost specialists in live music audio production and post-production for radio, television, DVD and instant delivery,” says Cameron McCauley, director of Remote Recorders. “We had a very successful run over the years with an SSL 4000 series console, but the time had come where we needed to move into a digital console with more capacity. The C200 gives us the digital console version of Total Recall™ so recalling the settings of a project is very fast. We have the familiar SSL automation and channel layout our engineers have been used to with the 4000, plus we continue to be able to offer SSL’s sonic heritage to our clients. As a bonus, we have a console we can easily upgrade and expand at a later date. The C200 covers all bases for what we do.”

Remote Recorders has worked with a raft of top acts including everyone from Kanye West, Coldplay, Mia and Muse to The Pixies, Chemical Brothers, Moby, Iggy Pop and Blondie, to name a few. Some other recent projects include live DVD’s for the Powderfinger “Sunsets” tour and the ARIA iTunes countdown for Live Nation.

“The integrated features on the C200 are a lifesaver in terms of workflow efficiency,” states McCauley. “We can control our DAW from the desk and offer multiple 5.1 and stereo mixes to our clients. In every way, the C200 helps us to accomplish more in less time, while maintaining the highest quality levels, allowing us to participate in services like instant delivery.”

Two New GefenPRO ELR Extenders with POL (Power Over Line) Technology Deliver HDMI, Power, Ethernet, IR and RS-232 Over a Single CAT-5 Cable

Digital connectivity solutions provider Gefen today announced that two new breakthrough products are currently shipping. The GefenPRO ELR (Extra Long Range) Extenders for HDMI with POL I and II both offer an extra long range extension of multiple signals up to 330-feet (100m) over just one CAT-5 cable.

Innovative Gefen POL technology based on the Power over Ethernet standard enables the delivery of power to the receiver unit using the AC power connected at the sender unit. Each receiver unit is equipped with an additional 5v output to power a supplemental product, such as a scaler, switcher or splitter at the display location.

The GefenPRO ELR Extender for HDMI with POL is ideal for installations where power requirements are limited or AC power outlets are not viable at the receiving side, such as when mounting projectors on the ceiling. By reducing the CAT-5 cable requirements from two to only one, it also allows installers to easily tap into existing in-wall CAT-5 type cabling, well suited for retrofitting.

HDMI resolutions of 1080p full HD, 3DTV support, audio, IR remote, RS-232 control, Ethernet and power are all delivered over a single CAT-5 cable to the remote location. Advanced HDMI features include 3DTV, deep color, lip sync and audio delay. Both the IR backchannel and RS-232 connection can be used to control the display from the remote location. Each receiver can be wall mounted for added convenience.

The GefenPRO ELR Extender for HDMI over CAT5 with POL II offers an optional receiver unit equipped with one additional HDMI input, so users can automatically switch between two HDMI sources, one connected to the sender, and the other connected to the receiver. Both HDMI sources can be alternately viewed at the remote location with auto switching, by IR remote, local front panel selection or RS-232 control. When one source powers down, this receiver will automatically switch to the alternative source.

Both products are rack mountable, come with a built-in internal power supply and are HDBaseT compliant.
