TWO DANLEY JERICHO HORNS COVER 30,000 AT FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY’S NEW FOOTBALL STADIUM

BOCA RATON, FLORIDA – JANUARY 2012: On the heels of Florida Atlantic University’s elevation to Division I-A football and its record-setting win at the New Orleans Bowl, the Owls opened the 2011 season in a brand new, 30,000-seat stadium on the school’s main Boca Raton campus. The facility is a paragon of modern stadium design, with clean sightlines, comfortable amenities, and multiple grades of profitable priority seating. Indeed, with optimistic eyes to the future, the design will accommodate 65,000 additional seats and a roof if needed. Given the project’s tight budget, initial plans called for a bare-bones public address system, but system consultant Anthony James Partners alerted the school to the remarkably affordable, high-performance Danley Sound Labs Jericho Horn JH-90. Two Jericho Horn JH-90s fire from the scoreboard to cover the entire stadium with full-frequency, eminently-intelligible audio.

“The budget was a real challenge,” explained Larry Lucas, director of audio engineering at Anthony James Partners. “They were set to compromise on the audio system, but we suggested they listen to a Danley Jericho Horn JH-90. After our demo, they realized that for only a little bit more money, they could get a high-fidelity, high-volume sound system capable of supporting concerts and functions, in addition to great-sounding game day content.”

How is it possible that the Danley Jericho Horn JH-90 offers a performance improvement and a price break at the same time? “Where other manufacturers use a conventional design – which has a host of inherent acoustical limitations – and then add costly and imperfect ‘fixes’ to deal with those limitations, Danley starts with an unconventional design with solid acoustical performance,” said Lucas. “By combining fifteen drivers into a single point-source enclosure, the Jericho JH-90 is powerful but acoustically clean and simple. As a result, I don’t have to fight with phasing and timing issues in the design. I’m not fighting physics!”

Daktronics installed the audio system, as well as a brilliant Daktronics scoreboard. “At Daktronics, working to accurately integrate sound systems into video board structures is a critical engineering objective,” said Mike Maloney, regional audio sales associate with Daktronics. “Normally Daktronics supplies a cabinet with a speaker-covering mesh for a university, but the JH-90s at FAU needed to attach directly to the top of the video board. To satisfy the mounting requirements, our mechanical engineers designed custom mounts to hold the JH-90s safely atop the new video board. The mounts meet strict safety standards while providing tilting capabilities so as to optimize coverage at the opposite end zone.” The coverage patterns of the two Jericho Horn JH-90s blanket the entire bowl of the new stadium, save for a few seats directly below the scoreboard. Daktronics installed two flagship Danley SH-50 full-range loudspeakers to provide the requisite fill.

Ten Crown I-Tech 5000 HD amplifiers provide power to the system, with processing handled by BSS London. “The Jericho JH-90s required only some modest equalization to be dialed in completely,” said Maloney. “At the base of the system, a Yamaha 01V 96 VCM digital mixer gives the FAU audio techs control over inputs and volume. HiQnet System Architect software gives us real-time information regarding the amplifier and speaker performances.”

He continued, “The completed system provided us a very satisfied client. The vocal presentation has nice clarity, the music reproduction shows little compression of the dynamic range, and the low frequency energy is ample. It was fun to watch the Owl’s first home game. The Daktronics screen featured a vibrant video of the team mascot flying over the stadium, grabbing the opposing team’s mascot, and throwing it to the ground triumphantly. The fight began to the immense delight of the nearly 30,000 fans, and the excitement was heightened under the new high performance audio and video systems.”

FSR Builds a Bigger (Ceiling) Box

Woodland Park, NJ • FSR, manufacturer of audio and video switching, control products, and connectivity boxes, has announced the launch of a new ceiling box with a deeper design developed to accommodate applications requiring more internal equipment than the CB-12 and CB-22 models.

“The CB-224 is the largest unit in our popular CB Ceiling enclosure series,” commented Jan Sandri, FSR’s president. “Its capacity to support 50 pounds for a projector, and 12 pounds on each shelf makes it ideal for any venue requiring a robust ceiling mount.”

The unit is a perfect fit for conference centers, schools, meeting and training facilities, airports and museums. Its advanced deep box design has a pull-down 4 RU cage with gas-spring assisted ball-bearing slide. 2 RU of angle-adjustable rack-mounting surfaces on either end of the cage facilitate mounting and visibility of 1RU/2RU patch panels. 1-3/8” of clear space on both sides allows for wire bundles to traverse parallel to the cage after installation. Each side of the box has an edge-protected bundled cable inlet cavity, filled with flame retardant foam seal. The interior of the CB-224 is complete with 5 internal outlets, 1 external outlet, and a fan.

The CB-224 ceiling box is available in 4 versions: with or without a pole-mount for a projector, and both with or without “smart” electronics. The Smart Module brings Green Energy savings to the Ceiling Box by turning power on and off to non-critical equipment based on the current being drawn by the projector. In effect, when the projector is shut down, the non-critical devices in the ceiling box are power off as well, and when the projector is powered on, so are the other devices. This reduces the amount of power being consumed by the room when it is not in use.

The CB-224 is ETL listed and has approvals for safety (UL 60950-1) and visible smoke (UL-2043). Units are currently shipping.

CenterStage Productions Chooses Reflection LEDko

(Wellington, Fla.)—For Chicago based lighting design and production services company CenterStage Productions, finding the right fixture to replace Source Four® ellipsoidals with color scrollers and dimmers was imperative to meet the requirements of budget demanding clients. Reflection LEDko by Coemar, the first LED profile delivering both Soft and Hard Edge profile optics, proved to be a natural fit in meeting these goals.
Experienced production designers Bruce Holland and Olivier Ilisca founded CenterStage Productions in 1996. The company provides the corporate theater market with superior quality, dynamic and exciting designs at events across the U.S. and around the world.
“I’ve been waiting a couple years now for an LED unit that could replace our Source Four ellipsoidal fixtures with scrollers,” said Ilisca. “For smaller scale shows with lower ceilings and a limited budget, the Reflection LEDko is the perfect choice. With its vivid colors, bright beams and no scrollers, the LEDko FullSpectrum was able to keep up with our overall lighting levels.”
Reflection LEDko is a revolutionary new LED fixture and the first LED profile capable of projecting soft-edged profile light with no reduction in light intensity due to additional filters. It is also the first LED profile that can be used in the same way as traditional profiles and can obtain any color tone, shade and white light.
“At a recent corporate financial conference in California, we used 20 Reflection LEDko FullSpectrum fixtures and were very happy with their performance. Not one of the units failed and we were able to provide various scenic lighting without the need for scrollers, which is a great alternative to expensive moving lights with shutters,” concluded Ilisca.
CenterStage Productions approached LED Source®, an international LED lighting supplier and the exclusive distributor of Coemar LED products in North America, to spec an event after hearing about the new Reflection LEDko. “This was the perfect solution to meet their specific design requirements,” said Jerry Mitchell, Coemar Sales Manager at LED Source. “In the past, using technology such as the traditional Source Four profile with scrollers, required multiple dimmers and long setup times. They were also bulky and cumbersome with multiple parts leading to more possible failures. By changing to the LEDkos, we eliminated the noisy scrollers, the power supplies, and extra gear translating to a smaller truck pack and fast setup.”
Applying the Reflection LED technology makes it possible to reduce energy consumption from 575-750 Watts to 150 Watts. The LED lamps last up to 50,000 hours without loss of brightness, thus no maintenance costs.
Because LEDs do not emit heat, Reflection LEDko is capable of utilizing images or gobos created with any standard printer and a transparency sheet. This technology allows you to project any image such as a corporate logo quickly and without cost, while also eliminating the entire gobo buying process, which was previously dependant on glass or metal patterns.
Reflection LEDko is one fixture that can remove or significantly reduce all costs related to lamps, dimmers, scrollers, gel filters, heat, cabling, electricity and manpower. All LEDko series fixtures (FullSpectrum, VariWhite and White 3200K) feature electronic 16-bit dimming, flicker-free operation with DMX controllable LED frequency from 500 to 5000 Hz and a bi-directional DMX512.

Auralex Custom Great GRAMMA Gives Oli Brown the Right Sound Clarity in Concert

GRAMMA Isolation Risers Decouple Guitar Amps on Stage

LONDON, JANUARY 11, 2012 — Every time award-winning British blues guitarist Oli Brown plays live with his band, he relies on Auralex’s Great GRAMMA (Gig and Recording, Amp and Monitor, Modulation Attenuator) isolation riser to decouple his guitar amplifier from the stage. The Great GRAMMA lets Brown deliver a clean front-of-house mix without the additional boom and swell associated with non-isolated instrument amplifiers. In addition, Auralex created a custom fabric covering for Brown’s Great GRAMMA.

Brown is one of the hottest young blues guitarists on the scene today. His latest release, Heads I Win Tails You Lose, won the 2011 British Blues Award for Best Album. Legendary British blues veteran Mike Vernon, known for his work with Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton and David Bowie, came out of retirement to produce the album.

During a recording session, Brown discovered Auralex’s Great GRAMMA, and he tried it out. He fell in love with the difference it made in the sound of his amp. “Hearing is believing,” says Brown. “The Great GRAMMA is amazing and it is now a main part of my stage set up.”

The Great GRAMMA, patented by Auralex, is an effective isolation device that is used to float an amp or loudspeaker, yielding nearly total acoustic isolation between an instrument amp or monitor speaker and the stage. By employing a Great GRAMMA, performers realize clarity of sound that honestly represents their artistic intent. The Great GRAMMA is 30 in. long x 19 in. wide x 2.75 in. high, with a maximum weight limit of 300 lbs. The Great GRAMMA also offers a 30 percent larger surface area to accommodate popular speaker configurations that feature 4 in. x 12 in., 15 in. or 18 in. speakers.

Brown took his custom Great GRAMMA on the road with him last month for his performances in Norwich, UK and Jakarta, Indonesia. He will also be traveling with his Auralex Great GRAMMA in 2012, as he already has several shows lined up throughout the UK and France.

StrandVision Announces Free Digital Signage Option for Web Browser Home Page Signage

Free option makes StrandVision Digital Signage default Web home page…

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Jan. 11, 2012 – StrandVision Digital Signage today announced a free new applet for its cloud-based digital signage offering that enables any active subscriber’s signage to be displayed on unlimited computer or cell phone screens as the default home page or as a favorite. The Home Page option works with any Web browser that supports Adobe flash.

Ideal for employee communication messaging, member communications for clubs and organizations and faculty and staff communications in education, the StrandVision Digital Signage Home Page shows the same text, images, weather and news as the regular StrandVision Digital Signage displays. Videos also can be played by clicking on the play button as it appears in the signage loop.

Easy Set-up
There are several ways to take advantage of the free Digital Signage Home Page. StrandVision posts an automated link for each account’s Digital Signage display in the “View Signage” section of the account. Administrators email the link to users who can open the signage and optionally bookmark or set the signage as the browser’s Home Page.

For Information Technology-administered networks, the StrandVision link can be distributed and/or automatically loaded onto computers as they are being commissioned or when they are updated through automated software management processes.

“This is a great new way to take advantage of StrandVision Digital Signage and leverage the signage company wide,” said Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “With a few mouse clicks, StrandVision Digital Signage can be extended to every computer in a company. Far-flung employees anywhere in the world can be exposed to corporate information 24/7. We know that there will be several other applications for business, education and other organizations, as well. It’s easy to set up and then runs automatically – and it continues our free digital signage software tradition with no additional cost to our subscribers.”

Other Display Options
The free StrandVision Digital Signage Home Page joins other StrandVision display options that were added to StrandVision’s suite of services in response to customer requests. The company also offers a screen saver option and an applet that enables its customers to show their signage as a frame on their Web pages. “Each of these three add-ons allows StrandVision Digital Signage customers to leverage their current business marketing and communication materials to reach employees, prospects or the public with consistent, efficient information without having to re-create separate communications vehicles,” said Strand.

Almo Professional A/V Gives Partners an “Edge”

Almo Professional A/V Gives Partners an “Edge”
With New Edge Blending Webinar

Offers AV Integrators in Digital Signage and Rental & Staging
a Tool to Differentiate from Competition and Impact Viewers

Philadelphia, PA — January 10, 2012 — Almo Professional A/V, the nation’s fastest growing audiovisual distributor, is starting 2012 strong with the first AV webinar to focus on edge blending, a new projector technique that visually combines several projected images to make a seamless, single image. Registration is now open for the “The Fundamentals of Edge Blending,” scheduled for Wednesday, January 18 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. EST. An encore session will also be available on February 16 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. EST and the presentation will be available live on the Spring 2012 leg of Almo Pro A/V’s E4 AV training and networking tour.

“We are starting our webinar series with a fresh round of sessions developed to help our partners differentiate from the competition with techniques that add significance and creativity to an install,” said Melody Craigmyle, vice president of marketing for Almo Professional A/V. “Edge blending is a topic that has not been widely addressed, yet it can have so much impact on the overall effectiveness of an application.”

“Edge blending is part art, part science and definitely a craft to be learned,” explained Alan Brawn, principal of Brawn Consulting and presenter for the webinar. “It addresses two growing markets: digital signage and rental & staging. Edge blending allows integrators in these markets to create incredible images that are otherwise not possible. In simple terms, this gives the creative side of the AV world another tool to leave a lasting impression on viewers.”
Edge blending is done by increasing the size of a projected image to make it very wide or by combining a number of lower resolution devices together to increase the total resolution of a display. In both cases, a number of projectors are needed, which are overlapped and then visually joined together using edge blending processing. “The Fundamentals of Edge Blending” webinar examines how edge blending actually works by focusing on the projector layout, installation and pixel overlap. The session also looks at brightness and color matching to create a contiguous image from a single projector. Applications discussed will include image magnification, curved screens, simulation, unconventional screen sizes and shapes, high resolution imaging, continuous screens and techorating.

About Almo Professional A/V’s Webinar Program
In addition to edge blending, over the next month Almo’s webinar program includes these sessions: “Introducing MusicLites by Artison” on January 19 and “URC Commercial Control – Take A Look Inside” on February 2. For more information, go to www. http://www.almoproav.com/events/.
