EAW® Names Scott Pizzo North American Sales Manager, East

Pizzo Returns to the Company and Will Help EAW Focus on Sales and Continued Growth

Whitinsville, MA, USA, January 24, 2012 – EAW®, a world leader in audio system technology for over 30 years, announces the appointment of Scott Pizzo to the position of North American Sales Manager, Eastern Region. Pizzo was previously part of the EAW team from 2003 through 2008, serving as U.S. Sales Director among other positions. The announcement was made by Jeff Rocha, EAW President, and reflects EAW’s ongoing emphasis on strengthening its sales channels and enhancing its customer relations.

Rocha states, “Re-hiring Scott is a critical step in strategically growing our internal capabilities. He brings tremendous experience and strong connections to dealers and end users. Plus, he’s intimately familiar with the EAW product line, so he can hit the ground running. Having Scott here in the home office will help us keep the sales perspective front-and-center.”

In his new capacity, Pizzo will focus on sales in the eastern half of North America, allowing Kurt Metzler, EAW’s existing North American Sales Manager to focus on the West. As EAW has positioned each sales resource closer to the customers they serve so they can deliver faster, more direct service, Pizzo and Metzler will manage the total North American territory cooperatively.

“Our business is complex to the point that an installation might be specified in one territory, awarded to a contractor in another and installed in a third,” Rocha said. “It just makes sense for Scott and Kurt to collaborate in driving our North American growth in 2012 and beyond.”

Before rejoining EAW, Pizzo served as Eastern U.S. Regional Sales Manager at Renkus-Heinz from 2008 through 2011. Prior to joining EAW for the first time in 2003, he worked as Product Specialist / Technical Sales at Lexicon Professional. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music in music performance with an emphasis in recording and production technology from University of Lowell (now UMass Lowell). His experience spans both the studio world and event production, and in his free time, he does freelance event production for local-area organizations and businesses.

Pizzo states, “EAW is like home to me. I was an EAW owner before I was an employee, having purchased an FR253HR in 1996 or so. I am looking forward to reconnecting with customers and building EAW to the greatness it deserves, because EAW is the best. It’s good to be home.”

Christie MicroTiles Enhance Wow Factor at SAS

SAS has selected and installed 197 Christie MicroTiles comprising five walls, four Christie projectors and four Christie Spyder X20 video processors at its worldwide headquarters in Cary, North Carolina. SAS, the largest independent vendor in the business intelligence market, provides business analytics, data management and IT management software and services to the financial services, government, retail, energy, life sciences, manufacturing and numerous other industries.

“In designing our new state-of-the-art executive briefing center, SAS was creating a technology and functional showpiece,” said Woody Weaver, SAS senior manager of engineering and operations.

“MicroTiles, with their 1 mm bezel between each tile, provide a virtually seamless wall with the flexibility to build almost any configuration. Our building is platinum LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified and MicroTiles met our requirements as a green solution with their low power consumption and no consumables.”

“You see the LEED Wall (4 Christie MicroTiles wide by 2 Christie MicroTiles high) as soon as you enter the building,” continued Weaver, “along with a second, smaller video wall nearby (5 MicroTiles wide by 4 MicroTiles high). The showcase display is the 40-foot long Welcome Wall (28 MicroTiles wide by 4 MicroTiles high), which becomes the backdrop for our registration area. We also have the Future Wall (12 MicroTiles wide by 3 MicroTiles high) displaying current and upcoming events.”

Located on the sixth floor, the executive wing’s Executive Wall features a 7 MicroTiles wide by 3 MicroTiles high array displaying computer models, cable television content and digital signage.
“We often send content from our auditoriums and meeting rooms to the Executive Wall, so others can watch the presentations,” added Weaver. “Even with a skylight overhead, the MicroTiles still look good. Next, we’re implementing a touchscreen application using infrared sensors.”

Christie Spyder and Christie MicroTiles – The Ideal Combination

Two Christie Spyder X20 video processors manage and control the content fed to the Christie MicroTiles.

“We can transform our lobby into a technology showcase and use the Welcome Wall in conjunction with our Spyders for our conference registration areas,” said Ken Weaver, senior IT manager, SAS. “For example, for an education conference here our graphics team designed a themed background for the wall, to which we added letter logos to facilitate the registration process. We often repurpose one wall several different ways just by changing up the display content.”

Four Christie Projectors and Two Additional Christie Spyders

Two additional Christie Spyders deliver top-notch content in the center’s two auditoriums. Both spaces feature two rear-projected Christie HD10-M projectors with a Christie Spyder X20 blending the content onto impressive 30-foot wide by 10-foot high screens. Two Christie HD6K-M projectors in each auditorium present content for two smaller, flanking screens.

“We chose Christie because it is good product. The MicroTiles have been very reliable,” Woody Weaver concluded. “The MicroTiles run 12 hours a day, six days a week and definitely provide that ‘wow’ factor for our clients when they walk into the building.”

Integrator AVI-SPL was pleased to install MicroTiles at the high-tech firm after becoming very familiar with the technology on other installations. Will Parry, senior vice president, special projects groups at AVI-SPL said, “We were happy to use the MicroTiles again after several large installations. We’ve had great success with them in the past, and highly recommend them to our clients.”

Waves Announces Increased Popularity of SoundGrid® On DiGiCo SD7 and SD10 Consoles in the U.S.

— DiGiCo’s U.S. distributor, Group One Limited, reports that virtually all SD7 and SD10
consoles sold in the U.S. are equipped with Waves SoundGrid® —

KNOXVILLE, TN, January 23, 2012 — Waves Audio, the industry-leading developer of professional audio digital signal processing technologies and the recipient of a Technical GRAMMY® Award, is proud to be in an ongoing strategic alliance with DiGiCo, whose SD Series consoles – SD7 and SD10 – are virtually all shipping with Waves SoundGrid® in the U.S. In fact, DiGiCo’s U.S. distributor, Group One Limited, notes that almost all DiGiCo SD Series consoles are specified with Waves SoundGrid. The SoundGrid platform gives DiGiCo users access to Waves’ award-winning reverbs, equalizers, compressors, limiters, delays and more, directly from their consoles. In 2010, Waves formed the strategic alliance with DiGiCo, the renowned U.K.-based manufacturer of some of the world’s most popular, successful and groundbreaking digital mixing consoles.

Perfect for front-of-house, monitor, broadcast, and theater applications alike, SoundGrid gives users instant access to the industry’s leading audio processors, directly from the industry’s leading consoles. And to make things even simpler, Waves SoundGrid-compatible plugins come pre-loaded into DiGiCo consoles, eliminating the need to install.

Jack Kelly, Founder and President at Group One, DiGiCo’s U.S. distributor, stated, “The integration of Waves plugins into DiGiCo SD Series consoles gives live engineers the ability to really use their artistry – for example, to make changes on-the-fly without a break in the audio, shaping the sound for each and every act or different performance in the moment. We have also found that engineers who have been using the system love the 15-inch touch screen, which they can use for complete control of the Waves platform, versus using a keyboard and mouse. Waves SoundGrid opens a world of opportunity for live engineers working on DiGiCo SD Series consoles.”

“Waves is pleased that more and more live engineers are utilizing the SoundGrid platform on DiGiCo SD Series consoles,” said Mick Olesh, senior vice president of Waves Audio. “Now that most SD7 and SD10 consoles are shipping fully loaded with SoundGrid, it will be easier than ever to bring Waves studio-quality audio processing to the stage.”

CLAIR GLOBAL SCORES A HAT TRICK AT THE 2012 NHL WINTER CLASSIC

nhl_pa_cart.JPGPHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA – JANUARY 2012: The NHL Winter Classic is a throwback to the bygone days when professional hockey was played outdoors in the chill wintertime air. But more than that, it is the NHL’s so-far-successful attempt to claim New Years Day in the same way that baseball claims July 4th and football claims Thanksgiving Day. This year’s contest took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia between the hometown Flyers and their rivals, the New York Rangers. Despite the Flyers’ loss, the 47,000 fans in attendance enjoyed the experience, as did the nearly four-million viewers who watched on NBC. Clair Global provided house sound and a broadcast mix for the between-period performances by hometown superstars, The Roots. They used three unique, Clair-conceived and Clair-deployed solutions: mobile speaker carts that allowed the line arrays to be lowered and flipped out of site lines as more

McCallum Theater Goes Digital with HARMAN’s Soundcraft Vi6™ to Complete Full HARMAN System

PALM DESERT, California — Known for providing entertainment and education through a variety of performing arts events that reflect the diversity of people, interests, and tastes of the Coachella Valley in California, the McCallum Theater recently updated its all-HARMAN audio system by adding Soundcraft’s Vi6 digital audio mixing console for its front-of-house mixing needs.

The 24-year-old Theater needed an update to replace an aging Soundcraft Series 5 console. With the Vi6 in mind, James D. Anderson, Audio Director at the Theater, consulted with Bob Patrick, Principal of Hacienda Heights, California-based IPR Services, to install the console and ensure compatibility with the rest of the system, including JBL’s VERTEC VT4888 midsize line arrays and Crown I-Tech amplifiers. The upgrade included BSS Soundweb London signal processing for digital routing and flexibility. Dennis M. Kornegay, CTO, IPR Services, developed the London programming and user interface software.

Patrick was the project manager when the original system was installed, and knows the details of the hardware. “He was the logical choice to go to, both for purchasing and integrating the console,” stated Anderson. “I had done my research and knew I wanted the Vi6. I had never used a digital board before, but the ease of use and operation with Soundcraft’s Vistonics™ II was so good that I jumped right into it. I knew that my guest engineers would be satisfied.”

“It was a seamless transition going from the old analog wiring to the new digital system,” said Anderson. “I am still learning the aspects of digital mixing, but the board is everything I imagined and more. I chose the 96 input option.”

To learn the new board, Anderson attended Soundcraft’s “Mixing with Professionals” session, conducted by Gert Sanner in Northridge, California. “It was perfect,” stated Anderson. “The class was four hours long and I came away with information that made everything easier. My favorite feature on the console is the Vistonics, which allows me to see all channel settings at the same time. I also like the GPIO (General Purpose Input/Output) for starting playback devices with the function keys or from a cue. The GPIO contacts appear on my patch bay, along with user interface connections to all playback devices, for easy configuration.”

“I am extremely happy with the console and the support I’ve received from HARMAN and Soundcraft. It is perfect for what we need and I am excited to keep learning more ways to use the board and discovering more functions and effects,” Anderson concluded.
