Guitar Center Professional Helps Pyramind with Both Sides of Their Unique Business Model

— Pyramind produces professional commercial audio for clients and also offers professional music production training, and GC Pro has been able to provide technology support for both sides of Pyramind’s services —

Pyramind occupies a special space in professional audio: As a commercial audio production and post production facility, it excels as a leading supplier of audio for the video game industry. As such, they are noted for their work with major studios such as Sega, 2K Games, LucasArts, Sony PlayStation and others, producing the scores, voice over and sound design for blockbuster games like Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Kinect Disneyland Adventures, Infamous 2, Iron Man 2, Bioshock 2, the God of War trilogy and dozens more. Pyramind is also a leader in the growing field of pro audio education. Award-winning educators including YouTube Guru David Earl (sfLogicNinja), CSI composer and sound designer Brian Trifon (Trifonic), and G.A.N.G award-winning engineer Steve Heithecker teach Pyramind’s signature “Core” program (devised by Chief Academic Officer Matt Donner), emphasizing the three key disciplines for individual success in any creative field: creativity, technology, and business acumen. Guitar Center Professional (GC Pro), the outside sales division of Guitar Center that focuses on the needs of professional users, has been a vendor partner with Pyramind for over a decade, providing equipment, expertise and services that address Pyramind’s needs in all of their ventures. These include the sales of products such as Genelec Active Monitors, Avid ProTools systems, mic pre’s from Focusrite and Avalon and high-end microphones from over a dozen manufacturers, as well as being an educational partner, providing discounts for Pyramind students and staff and offering advice for students on an array of pro audio topics.

“We’ve been working with [GC Pro Account Manager] Vince Bedford for ten-plus years now, and the service has just been great,” exclaims CEO Greg Gordon. “We’ve had a longstanding relationship with Vince and GC Pro, and they have helped us across the board, from the biggest consoles to the smallest items. We really appreciate how responsive they’ve been in terms of helping out students, not only with educational discounts on equipment but also with advice and input on so many subjects. They treat everyone like a professional, and that means a lot to our students.”

Bedford says the feeling is mutual: “Pyramind is one of the finest music production schools in the country – every teacher there is an author or is a professional producer/engineer working in the field. We’re glad that a school of that caliber feels good enough about GC Pro to send all of their students to us. We are able to provide students with the right tools essential for their education, as well as high-quality information that reinforces their training at Pyramind. We’ve enjoyed supporting them in the past and look forward to continuing to do so in the future.”

Matt Donner, Pyramind’s Chief Academic Officer, says that GC Pro has been a long-time supplier to both of the company’s business lines. “On the training side, we recommend specific computers, keyboards and software – including Pro Tools, Reason, Live and Logic- and our students get great advice along with competitive pricing on all of that from GC Pro,” he says. “On the studio side, GC Pro has provided us with just about everything, including several last-minute needs that GC Pro solved immediately for a vocal session for the Halo soundtrack. Our relationship with them is very strong because they have what we need and they’re there when we need them. Most importantly for the students, they get solid advice, great pricing and solid customer service. In one purchase with GC Pro, they transition from being a hobbyist to becoming a professional. It’s worth its weight in gold.”

Revolabs FLX(TM) Wireless Conference Phone Delivers Exceptional Audio Quality for Sametime(R) Users Through IBM Sametime Integration

SUDBURY, Mass. — Jan. 23, 2012 — Revolabs Inc. today announced that the company’s FLX(TM) wireless conference phone has been tested and verified to operate with IBM Sametime(R) software. Designed specifically for small and mid-sized conference rooms, executive offices, and SOHO environments, the Revolabs FLX now offers seamless integration with IBM Sametime to deliver exceptional audio quality for users.

IBM Sametime delivers unified, real-time communication and collaboration services — from enterprise instant messaging and online meetings to telephony and video conferencing. The software allows businesses to improve how work gets done while reducing travel and telephony expenses. Through the new integration with IBM Sametime, users simply plug the Revolabs FLX wireless conference phone into their computer for superior audio performance at the desktop or in the conference room. The Revolabs FLX works with IBM Sametime integrated telephony solutions, whether SUT, SUT Lite, TCSPI, or the built-in Sametime audio features.

Combining wireless operation, high-quality wideband audio, 128-bit encryption, integrated Bluetooth(R), support for analog and IP, and a low price point, the FLX redefines the traditional conference speakerphone. The FLX is available with a variety of compatible Revolabs microphones types, including a lapel microphone, worn by one person; an omnidirectional tabletop microphone that captures the sound of six to 10 participants; and a directional tabletop microphone that enables audio capture from two to three people.

Because the FLX dialer operates like a telephone for handset calls and enables the setup of conference calls, there is no need for a separate desk and conference phone. The Revolabs FLX can also serve as the audio interface with virtually any major brand of video conferencing equipment, providing the same high audio performance within video calls. Callers without Internet access can have their phone calls bridged into the video session at any time.

In a review of the FLX, Carl Tyler, director of Epillio, noted, “I connected the FLX to my PC and tried it with IBM Sametime. The audio quality was excellent, even clearer than the phone line. Another impressive FLX feature is the ability to merge audio streams. So, if you’re on a Sametime phone call using FLX for PC audio and the telephone rings, you can answer the phone, and the audio from both calls will be merged, allowing both callers to hear and chat with each other.”

In September 2011, Wainhouse Research (WR) conducted a third-party evaluation of the FLX. Ira M. Weinstein, senior analyst and partner at WR, said, “Throughout our testing, the Revolabs FLX performed well and provided a solid conference call experience even through the most aggressive echo cancellation and duplex tests. Not only is its audio call-quality as strong as wired speaker phones, but the use of a wireless speaker and microphones completely changes the entire conference call dynamic. The ability to move about the room without having to yell to be picked up by the speakerphone adds a new level of freedom to the meeting experience.”

The Revolabs FLX was recently honored with a 2011 Internet Telephony Product of the Year Award and is sold through major distributors, dealers, and resellers.

Mitsubishi’s New Interactive Projectors Announced

Mitsubishi Electric First to Offer Interactive Mirror-less Short-Throw 3D Projectors with Dual Pen Support

IRVINE, Calif., January 24, 2011 — Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions America, Inc. introduced its first mirror-less interactive projector design that provides dual pen support in two new 3D-ready models. When using light pens, two students or presenters can write, draw, or point independently on any solid surface, including a projection screen, passive white board or any smooth, white or light-colored wall, making teaching with technology more interesting for students.

Mitsubishi’s new interactive projectors offer several benefits:
• No calibration required: the interactive pen communicates directly with the projected image, so set-up is quick and easy. Teachers spend time teaching instead of dealing with calibration.
• No special screen needed: users can turn any solid screen or wall into an interactive surface, presenting up to a 180-inch diagonal image with the WD385U-EST. The interactive surface can be as wide and as tall as a teacher’s arms can reach, making the best use of space in the classroom.
• Maximum portability: because interactivity is not fixed onto a traditional white board, instructors can take these advanced teaching techniques with them from classroom to classroom, which can be more cost-effective for budget-strapped school districts.
• Engaging presentations: teachers and students can interact either directly on the projected surface or standing away from it. This flexibility makes lessons and content easier for students to retain.

“When classrooms are equipped with great technology, the learning experience becomes more engaging,” said Wayne Kozuki, product manager, Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions America, Inc. “It makes learning more fun and therefore, more productive. I wish we had one of these in my classroom when I was growing up.”

Mitsubishi’s wide-screen format WD385U-EST and XGA-resolution XD365U-EST 3D-ready projectors support single or dual pen functionality when used with interactive teaching software like Mitsubishi’s optional bundle, WizTeach® from Qwizdom, among others. Students and teachers can simply and easily make annotations, draw, write or use the pen as a mouse, on almost any solid surface.

Like its other extreme short-throw projectors, Mitsubishi’s WD385U-EST and XD365U-EST projectors are built with a specially crafted lens that provides excellent short-throw focus performance, and can project a 70-inch (diagonal) image from less than 23-inches away. These new models help prevent shadows on a screen or white board, which can be distracting during interactive sessions. Teachers and presenters can move in front of the image without getting blinded by the projected light path.

Each projector is currently available and comes with one interactive pen. Additional pens are available directly from Mitsubishi for $139. Included with the projectors are Mitsubishi’s three-year limited warranty on parts and labor, and a one-year limited warranty on the lamp. Like all Mitsubishi data projectors, these are covered by the Express Replacement Assistance (ERA) Program, a comprehensive nationwide service that offers next business-day replacement* for down units that are under warranty.

“Mitsubishi took its time to develop the best interactive projectors available, and we’re the first manufacturers to offer dual-pen capabilities,” said James Chan, vice president, marketing, Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions America, Inc. “And we’re getting very positive feedback from the field. We’re very excited to offer this new solution with our extreme short-throw projectors.”

Clay Paky Sharpy Fixtures Light Up the Holiday Season for Newport News, Virginia’s Hollydazzle

Hollydazzle

Hollydazzle

Hollydazzle 2011 was a little more dazzling than usual when Three Rivers Entertainment & Production utilized 20 Clay Paky Sharpy fixtures for the annual event that has become one of the East Coast’s most popular fireworks and lighting shows.

Hollydazzle ushers in the holiday season at City Center at Oyster Point in Newport News, Virginia. Sponsored by the Newport News Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism, the event drew 30,000 people to evening festivities that included a spectacular fireworks and lighting display choreographed to holiday tunes both old and new.

Clay Paky Sharpy fixtures highlighted City Center’s 45-foot LED Christmas tree, swept across the five-acre fountain where the fireworks originated, and shot their beams high into the sky to the accompaniment of holiday music and breathtaking pyrotechnics.

“In the past we’ve used other lights, but this year Sharpys were available via Main Light Industries in Wilmington, Delawar,” says Wade Shaner, lighting director with Pittsburgh’s Three Rivers Entertainment & Production, which was brought on board by show producers Pyrotecnico. “We were going to use much bigger lights and are glad we didn’t. We wanted a very fast, tight beam fixture, and Sharpy proved to be a kickass little light.”

Shaner deployed 20 Sharpys in four positions, even splitting the package so each position had five fixtures. The pods sat on piers just above water level in the fountain, which measures 400 feet in diameter. One of the piers also contained the LED Christmas tree.

“The Sharpys are an absolutely fantastic piece of equipment,” Shaner says. “You could see 600 feet of beam at some points, and the pods were 400 feet away from each other. The Sharpys were as bright as those huge one-can Skytrackers without having any mass to move. When we shone the Sharpys on the tree, you almost couldn’t see the tree lights!”

Shaner was also impressed by the Sharpys “unbelievably fast” performance. “They were amazing!”

Kevin Hogan served as lighting programmer/designer for Hollydazzle.

A.C.T Lighting is the North American distributor for Clay Paky.

Francesco Romagnoli, Clay Paky Area Manager for North and Latin America, adds, “tis was a very impressive use of our Sharpy and clearly demonstrates the power and flexibility of the fixture. We’re proud that Mr. Shiner was able to use them to such great effect .”
