Hitachi Adds Two New Models to Installation Series 3LCD Projector Lineup

CHULA VISTA, California, February 27, 2012 — Hitachi America, Ltd., Digital Media
Division, Business Solutions Group today announced the addition of its CP-WX8255 and CP-X8160 3LCD projectors to its Installation Series lineup. The new projectors offer world-class performance and tremendous flexibility, including new 360-degree off-axis display capability, a new Status Monitoring System, higher brightness, networking capability and many additional enhancements.

“We designed our Installation Series projectors to deliver the best reliability, quality and flexibility on the market, along with the lowest cost of ownership,” said John Glad, product manager, Hitachi America, Ltd., Digital Media Division, Business Solutions Group. “The new CP-WX8255 and CP-X8160 are ideal for meeting rooms, auditoriums, lecture halls, business conferences and many other professional applications.”

The projectors’ new 360-degree off-axis display capability enables the projectors to be rotated a full 360 degrees along the centerline of the lens, which is ideal for creative applications. Both models provide comprehensive connection options including two HDMI inputs to accommodate the increasing demand for digital connectivity. In addition, an optional wireless adapter lets users connect their PC to the projector via a wireless network. This adapter supports IEEE802.11b/g and the latest 11n standards.

The CP-WX8255 and CP-X8160 have their lenses mounted right in the center of the projector, making it easy to align the lens with the center of the projection screen for faster setup. Both models provide motorized focus, zoom and lens shift, allowing adjustment of the image via the supplied remote control. Digital keystone (horizontal and vertical) correction, Hitachi’s exclusive Perfect Fit 2 image correction and the projectors’ large lens shift enable precise positioning of the image to perfectly fit the screen. In addition to the 2X zoom lens that is supplied with both projectors, four optional additional lenses are available to accommodate a wide variety of projection distances.

Both models include Hitachi’s new Status Monitoring System, which provides information about the projectors’ operational status via an LED screen on the rear panel or through the Hitachi network tools software. The Status Monitoring System displays the current condition of the projectors including error messages, alarm messages and real-time monitoring of operational and network information.

The CP-WX8255 delivers native WXGA resolution with 5,500 ANSI lumens brightness and 3,000:1 contrast, while the CP-X8160 offers XGA resolution, 6,000 ANSI lumens brightness and 3,000:1 contrast, for brighter images with more vivid colors than previous models at screen sizes up to 600 inches. Both projectors can be placed on a stand or tabletop, or ceiling-mounted.

In addition to their HDMI inputs, the CP-WX8255 and CP-X8160 feature two computer inputs and a monitor out, three USB (Type A and Type B) inputs for use with a USB memory stick, mouse or wireless adapter, and an RJ-45 Ethernet jack for network connectivity. A/V connections include component, S-Video and composite video inputs, three audio inputs and an audio out, and both models have 16 Watts of audio (two 8-Watt stereo speakers).

A unique feature of the projectors is their DICOM® (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) Simulation Mode, which is ideal for viewing grayscale medical images, such as X-rays, for training and educational purposes.

The CP-WX8255 and CP-X8160’s networking capability allows them to be remotely controlled via a LAN (Local Area Network) connection. Hitachi’s exclusive PJMan® Projector Management software gives users the ability to operate and monitor the projectors and receive diagnostic information from a remote location.

Both projectors offer a wealth of useful convenience and operational features. A Template function displays white or black lines to make writing on a whiteboard or blackboard easier. The PC-Less Presentation feature enables users to project images directly from a USB drive or other media, eliminating the need to connect a laptop or desktop computer. Each projector model will be equipped with an ultra-long-life hybrid filter that can last up to 20,000 hours without cleaning, saving significant maintenance time.

An Input Source Naming function lets the user customize the names of input sources. Both models come with a remote control that provides MyMemory, MyText, MySource and MyScreen buttons for fast access to frequently used functions and sources. The CP-WX8255 and CP-X8160 provide extensive security features including a security bar and Kensington Lock slot and a transition detector that prevents unauthorized use if the projector is moved. The projectors are compatible with the Crestron® Integrated Partner program and the AMX® Device Discovery protocol, to facilitate use in A/V systems using Crestron or AMX control.

Martin Audio Dominates Holland’s Leading Live Music Venues

––W8LCi Line Array Installed At Duycker––

Martin Audio has taken the lead in equipping premier concert venues in the Amsterdam region in partnership with their Dutch distributors, TM Audio.

Following landmark installations in the iconic clubs Paradiso and Melkweg in the past few years, a Martin Audio W8LCi compact line array system has now been installed in Duycker, the latest Amsterdam rock venue and cultural center.

Owned by the local government, and situated near Schiphol Airport in the affluent town of Hoofddorp, the complex is comprised of two live rooms and a café bar, where sound reinforcement is provided by Martin Audio’s stylish AQ architectural line.

The Martin Audio W8LCi solution was chosen for installation in the large, 850-capacity room after the line array approach had been compared with modular systems by experienced freelance sound engineer, Gerald Chermin, who was brought in as technical director to streamline the routing and optimize the system.

With a large balcony affecting both sightlines and coverage patterns posing a problem, Chermin used all the experience he had gained working with companies such as Ampco to assemble some of the market leading systems in a competitive shoot-out.

“We assembled a panel of different sound engineers, with one person tuning all the systems. We realized the line array approach would overcome both balcony coverage sightline issues, whereas going modular would have required too many boxes.”

The system has been specifically designed to provide plenty of headroom, and is based around seven W8LCi enclosures per side, with one W8LCDi Downfill at the base. Six Martin Audio WS218X subs are stacked, three a side, to provide LF extension.

The main system is run three way, but driven in four separate parts by a combination of Martin Audio MA6.8Q and Powersoft K8/K10 amplifiers, processed via XTA DC1048 4-in/8-out DSP. Three DiGiCo SD8’s have been provided for FOH, monitor (and portable) duties.

“We have definitely made the right choice with the Martin Audio system, which is proving popular with incoming production crews,” stated Gerald. “We chose the system not only because it represented excellent value for money but the fact that it could be divided up into four separate sections.

“We also knew we could depend on excellent back-up from TM Audio and [sister company] Lightco, who have provided the lighting.”

Meanwhile in the café bar, music sourced from a DJ or computer and mixed via an Allen & Heath GR2 9-input, 4-output analog zone mixer, is played out through four Martin Audio AQ8’s, two AQ6’s and an AQ210 (2 x 10) sub, managed by a dedicated AQX system controller.

The arrival of Vari-Lites in the near future will place the final piece in the lighting jigsaw—operating under the control of Lightco-supplied Avolites desks. But the local population already has a leading destination venue—with a cutting edge technical infrastructure and live entertainment package—to kick-start their weekends.

ABS, Experience Church.tv Announce AVL Expo for Worship Community

SEATAC, WA — Professional video and audio systems integration firm ABS (Advanced Broadcast Solutions), in collaboration with Experience Church.tv®, will present the Audio, Visual, Lighting Conference and Expo (AVL Expo) on Friday, March 9, 2012, at Experience Church in Puyallup, Wash. The one-day conference, specifically designed for the worship community, will feature educational sessions, panel discussions, and an exhibit hall with a select group of vendors that meet the needs of AV practitioners and church pastors.

“At AVL Expo, we speak the language and propose solutions that small to medium-sized churches relate to,” said Dennis Cummins, Pastor at Experience Church.tv. “The Northwest seems to be isolated from a lot of the amazing trade and tech shows in Orlando, Houston, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. I know of many pastors that have limited budgets who cannot afford to fly volunteers across the country to gain this information, which is so desperately needed.”

Conference sessions will address a number of important topics, including cameras, image magnification (I-MAG), lighting and staging, streaming, and live and broadcast audio mixing. Mobile video will be a particular area of focus during AVL Expo. Cummins said churches often fall behind technology trends, but mobile video is too important to ignore.

“In order to make a mobile app appealing to the end user, creating compelling content is going to be a necessity. This requires the right tools and training in applying audio, video, and lighting tools,” he explained. “While many of the AVL sessions will be reinforcement and added layers from previous sessions, the information gained will be applied to mobile video applications.”

“Experience Church.tv is an excellent example of a ministry that has embraced audio and video technology with great success,” said Mark Siegel, President of ABS. “This is our fourth AVL Expo together, and we hope the show will continue to inspire smaller congregations to maximize their use of AV technology cost effectively.”

Courtesy of ABS, registration is free for the first two people registered from each church, and complimentary lunch will be provided. Additional attendees will be permitted based on availability, but space is limited. For more information and registration information, please visit www.avlexpo.com.

Motion Magic Finishes “China’s Got Talent” with DaVinci Resolve and Compact Videohub

Blackmagic Design today announced that Motion Magic, one of China’s leading television production facilities, installed Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve color correction system and Compact Videohub routers to complete post production work on “China’s Got Talent”.

As the post production studio designated for “China’s Got Talent”, Motion Magic has been providing its full range of services for the Chinese version of the popular reality show since its first episode. Motion Magic formed a specific project team consisting of its best editors, graphic designers, colorists and system designers and created a sophisticated post production workflow for “China’s Got Talent”, offering exceptional creative and technical services for the hit program.

To support a post production solution ideal for “China’s Got Talent”, Motion Magic renovated its facility by installing a brand new full HD production workflow, featuring DaVinci Resolve and two Compact Videohubs.

“Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve offers great features and performance at an affordable price, and uses an open architecture compatible with a wide range of third party hardware components, which is essential for color grading for television,” said Rick Lee, Supervisor of System Department, Motion Magic.
He continued: “DaVinci Resolve has contributed a lot to ‘China’s Got Talent’, as its real time performance and Power Mastering are great time savers for TV shows on a tight schedule such as ‘China’s Got Talent’. Also, noise reduction helps us easily eliminate noise instead of enhancing both useful and useless information. Beyond ‘China’s Got Talent’, we are also now beginning to use Resolve to grade new features and documentaries.”
Motion Magic also installed two Blackmagic Design Compact Videohub 40 x 40 routers, to replace their previous manual patching boards, for all video connections and switching. Lee said, “Video routers are the heart of a machine room, which means they must be extremely reliable. Blackmagic Design’s Compact Videohub is affordable and incredibly reliable. What’s more, with Compact Videohub, we can now simply manage switching on an Apple iPad or in front of a computer without manual patching, eliminating cable impairments and signal interferences, which is a leap in convenience and technology.”

About Motion Magic
Motion Magic, a subsidiary of Toonmax Transmission under Shanghai Media Group (SMG), is dedicated to bringing the best technologies to film and video productions. It has state of the art equipment and experienced artists, offering full production services ranging from CG animation, TVC, telecine, shooting, recording to studio design.
