Auralex Highlights New Studiofoam Wave Panels at Musikmesse 2012

Mid- and High- Frequency Sound Solution Offers Aesthetically Pleasing Visuals

FRANKFURT, GERMANY, MARCH 21, 2012 Auralex Acoustics, Inc., the industry leader in innovative sound control solutions, showcases its new Studiofoam Wave panels at Muskimesse 2012 (Hall 5.1, Stand D43).

Auralex’s new Studiofoam Wave is 2ft. x 2ft. and is between 1in. to 3in. thick due to the wave design of the panel. Providing varying levels of thickness, Studiofoam Wave can help control unwanted mid- or high-frequency reflections and standing waves in a variety of applications, such as vocal booths, control rooms, live rooms, rehearsal spaces and project studios. These panels will clean up the sound in any room and are a cost-effective alternative to fiberglass cloth-covered panels.

The panels are available in charcoal, burgundy and purple coloring, and are made from Auralex’s melamine-free formula, which won’t crumble with age. The new “wave” profile opens up many different design possibilities and can add a contemporary aesthetic to any space.

“The Studiofoam Wave is a reinvention of the best-selling Studiofoam line, giving our customers another alternative to our more traditional panels,” says Terry Hayes, international sales manager at Auralex Acoustics. “These are a great way to create a totally different vibe in your space, while maintaining the acoustic integrity that Auralex is known for.”

Studiofoam Wave panels can be used to help improve common acoustical issues such as excessive reverberation and flutter echo in small- to medium-sized areas and can be used with common mechanical fasteners such as t-pins, finish nails and tacks as well as Auralex Foamtak or Tubetak for easy, removable installation.

HARMAN’s AKG Relaunches Classic Project Studio Line Of Condenser Microphones

FRANKFURT, Germany – Originally launched in 1993, HARMAN’s AKG C3000 condenser microphone brought a remarkable level of quality and performance to musicians and sound engineers with a foundation of audio perfection and reliability. With the C2000, C4000 and C4500 BC debuting in the following years, the Project Studio Line was born. Nearly 20 years later, AKG’s workhorse C3000 is back, designed as a cost-effective, aesthetically beautiful mic, channelling the popular characteristics it maintained in the ‘90s.

The revamped Project Studio Line focuses on the home recording/project studio market, but the mics, underscoring the AKG’s reputation for versatility, perform just as well on stage. The new designs of the C2000, 3000, 4000 and 4500 BC maintain many of the technical aspects of the earlier models, but are now encased in a more sleek design, showcasing AKG’s quality and design work. The line’s edge-terminated capsule mimics AKG’s premium line of mics, including the C414 and C12VR.

“AKG’s new Project Studio Line takes a fresh look at a technology that has stayed true to the recording industry for 20 years, which is testament to the quality and reliability of our world-leading microphones,” stated Thomas Stubics, product marketing manager, recording and broadcast, AKG. “The relaunch of C3000 and company offers artists and engineers looking for a cost-effective, high-quality solution the opportunity to continue doing what they love, channelling their art in tremendous, warm and clear sound.”

The C3000 is best used for miking lead vocals, electric and acoustics guitars and for drum overhead applications. Its switchable attenuation pad and low-cut filter enable high SPL up to 150dB and eliminates proximity effects. The C2000 small-diaphragm condenser sounds like a real large-diaphragm microphone but at a more affordable price. It is ideal for vocals, brass and percussions thanks to its great transient response and remarkable low end. Its low-noise electronics ensure low distortion and a high dynamic range.

The C4000’s high-performance, multi-pattern, large-diaphragm design provides exceptionally high headroom and low self-noise. With one of the widest dynamic ranges for condenser mics, the microphone provides users with excellent results in the studio or on stage. Its warm, dark-sounding character is perfect for thin vocals, bright brass and acoustic guitars.

AKG’s C4500 BC is specially designed for on-air broadcast purposes. The mic is designed with cardioid pickup for voice friendly tuning and low proximity effect, along with high RF/EMI insensitivity. Its low noise and 165dB maximum SPL capability make it an ideal tool for close micing of low instruments, such as bass drums, low brass and guitar amps.

HARMAN’s Soundcraft® Announces ViSi iPad Remote Control for its Digital Console Range, With the Chance to Win an iPad!

FRANKFURT, Germany – Prolight & Sound 2012 marks the unveiling and preview of the new HARMAN Soundcraft® ViSi Remote iPad app, which enables a single iPad to control multiple consoles from the Soundcraft Vi Series™ and Soundcraft Si Compact range on one wireless network.

The Soundcraft ViSi Remote app allows users to roam around in a venue and not only adjust input channel levels and mutes, but also adjust aux send levels and matrix sends, and level and graphic EQ settings on bus outputs.

The app uses HARMAN’s HiQnet™ architecture to connect a network of consoles to a wireless router, which communicates with the iPad.

For even more flexibility, multiple iPads may be used on the same network, even on the same console, so that individual artists could control their own monitor sends, for example.

The Soundcraft ViSi remote is expected to hit the iTunes store at the end of April 2012, and by pre-registering on the Soundcraft website users will not only be informed immediately when the app goes live, but will be entered into a prize draw to win an Apple iPad. (conditions apply, see website for details: http://www.soundcraft.com/apps/visi-remote).

Apple and iPad are trademarks of Apple, Inc., registered in the U.K. and other countries.

HARMAN’s JBL Professional Introduces STX800 Series Portable Loudspeakers at Prolight & Sound 2012

JBL Professional’s STX800 Series portable, passive loudspeakers are designed to bridge the gap between lighter-duty portable PA speakers and full-size tour sound systems.

FRANKFURT, Germany – HARMAN’s JBL Professional today announced the introduction of its STX800 Series portable loudspeakers, designed to bridge the gap between lighter-duty portable PA speakers and full-size tour sound systems. The six STX800 passive loudspeaker models combine exceptional sound quality with rugged, travel-friendly construction, extreme power handling capability and integration with Crown’s VRack amplifier V5 level processing and HARMAN JBL HiQnet Performance Manager™ software.

The JBL STX800 Series models include: the 12-inch, 2-way STX812M; the 15-inch, 2-way STX815M; the dual 15-inch, 2-way STX825; the dual 15-inch, slot-loaded 3-way STX835; the 18-inch STX818S subwoofer; and the dual 18-inch STX828S subwoofer.

JBL STX800 Series loudspeakers utilize proprietary JBL high-power-handling drivers that deliver extremely low distortion and precision waveguides for accurate pattern control. STX800 Series enclosures are designed for easy handling, durability and are conveniently sized to be truck pack-friendly allowing for the maximum usage of cargo space which lowers transportation costs and reduces their carbon footprint.

“We know that “performance” encompasses much more than just specs. Total Performance is a design principle we embrace that embodies every characteristic of the product; spectral balance, ergonomics, practicality, extreme power handling, versatility and appearance are all factors that make a substantial difference in the real world of professional audio.” said Richard Ruse, Senior Director of Global Sales, JBL Professional. “STX800 speakers are ideal as a simple, high density ground stack sound system and are perfect for regional sound and A/V Rental companies, touring bands and professional mobile DJ’s. With their M10 suspension points they also function as a cost effective install speaker for night clubs, theaters and churches and are also an affordable, professional extension to a full-size tour sound system when used as side-fills and floor monitors.”

The STX812M and STX815M can be used either as a floor monitor, on a tri-pod stand or over a subwoofer. Both feature a 70 x 70 degree waveguide for precise, focused coverage. With its wide frequency range and broad 90 x 50-degree coverage angle, the STX825 is ideal for bands or DJs as their primary PA, as a side-fill speaker on a concert stage or as an installed speaker in a dance club or performance venue.

JBL’s slot-loaded STX835 is intended for full-range use in standalone applications or in high-performance environments as a ground stack passive top box. The STX835 is designed to be placed over the STX828 subwoofer, and its horn-loaded mid and high-frequency 60 x 40-degree waveguides allow two STX835’s to be splayed for wide-angle coverage over a large area. All STX800 loudspeakers can be operated either full-range or bi-amplified.

Though compact, the STX818S subwoofer can deliver 1,000 watts of continuous pink noise power handling and comes equipped with a top-mounted M20 pole mount. For applications requiring massive amounts of bass, the STX828S’s dual 18-inch drivers handle 2,000 watts of continuous pink noise, 4kW program and 8kW peak.

To deliver their standard-setting performance, STX800 Series loudspeakers employ the company’s most advanced technologies, including JBL’s patented CMCD™ Cone Midrange Compression Driver that provides ultra-low midrange distortion, increased sensitivity, extended bandwidth and improved phase coherence. High frequencies are handled by either a 2432H 3-inch or 2453H 4-inch titanium-diaphragm, neodymium-magnet compression driver, operating in conjunction with JBL’s patented Progressive Transition (PT) waveguides which offer constant directivity and smooth frequency response over a wide area. STX800 Series woofers feature the latest evolution of JBL’s Vented Gap Cooling: Super Vented Gap Technology, which provides more efficient heat dissipation for higher power-handling capability with minimal dynamic compression.

JBL STX800 Series loudspeakers offer versatile installation options. All models (except the subwoofers) incorporate M10 suspension points. Optional wheel kits are available for the STX818S and STX828S subwoofers. STX800 Series models are made from top-quality birch/poplar plywood covered in JBL’s resilient DuraFlex™ material, and have road-tough 14-gauge steel grilles lined with acoustically transparent cloth.
