grandMA Goes Clubbing in Miami Beach

Mynt Lounge

Mynt Lounge

The exclusive MyntLounge in Miami Beach may be the last place you expect to find a grandMA but a grandMA2 ultra-light has been installed by clubTech LLC to control the club’s lighting complement and video content. A.C.T Lighting is the exclusive distributor of grandMA in North America.

“MyntLounge is our biggest customer and a pioneer on the Miami nightclub scene,” says Pavel Roguszczak at clubTech, LLC. Known for its exclusivity and celebrity patrons and dubbed a place for “the famous and fabulous,” the club is refitted every summer – at a million-dollar price tag.

“They do something new and innovative every year and are now running a lot of video. grandMA allows us to integrate all the systems – moving lights, video, conventional lights, architectural lights – and run them from one console. It’s the first time we’ve been able to do that, and it’s really great,” Roguszczak reports.

He was introduced to grandMA at LDI 2008 and was impressed by its solid performance. When the MyntLounge refit came up last year he specified the grandMA2 ultra-light and received training on the system. “The way it’s constructed is great from both a programming and aesthetic point of view. grandMA is easy to program, but a lot of stuff we do is live – there aren’t a lot of chances to preprogram for a club. Many things need to be done on the fly, and grandMA makes it easy.”

At the MyntLounge, the new grandMA controls media servers for the LED walls and a host of conventional lights, moving heads and architectural lighting. “The project is still a work in progress, but the grandMA operates like we wanted it to,” says Roguszczak. “It’s been a great experience to program it and a lot of fun to run live. Thanks to the console, the possibilities are endless and the final effect is amazing!”

Shotoku Broadcast’s New Pan Bar Control System To Target Sports Events

Robotic System Featuring Operational Ease Presented at NAB 2012

Torrance, CA • Shotoku Broadcast Systems, a well-established leader in camera support and virtual reality tracking, has revealed plans to launch of its new Gemini Pan Bar Control System (PBCS) that offers uncompromised and easy operation for hard-to-reach sites such as sports events. Gemini make its world-wide debut at NAB 2012 in Booth C 8528 alongside Shotoku’s popular TR-T touch control system and the SPI-Touch unique positional calibration method for Virtual Studios.

NEW
Gemini Pan Bar Control System (PBCS)
Shotoku launches the new Gemini PBCS system, aimed at sports and special event productions where cameras need to be where cameramen cannot go.

Gemini brings together two of Shotoku’s most advanced products from the Robotics and Manual VR Tracking ranges to provide a remote pan & tilt head so perfectly synchronized with the manual head that they truly act as one. Camera operators can work without compromise, in comfort and safety, wherever the camera needs to be.

Immediate control over the tracking speed, direction, range and ratio is provided at the touch of a button so any event can be captured close-up or telephoto, at low or high speed. Dedicated hardware tracking and a simple RS422 interconnection makes setup quick and easy and ensures highly reliable operation, time after time. The Gemini system can even support multiple remote heads, so a single operator may seamlessly switch between cameras to give any view point on the action.

Any Shotoku remote head can be used to suit the payload and required location while the SH series manual VR tracking head provides exceptional tracking resolution under all conditions. Dual pan bars, adjustable balance and an easy-fix monitor support platform make the system comfortable to use over extended periods.

Gemini is already in demand – several systems will be deployed across high-profile venues throughout major international sporting events in London this summer.

HIGHLIGHTS
TR-T Touch Control System
Shotoku’s latest version of its successful TR-T touch control system offers an enhanced system operation to meet demands of larger, complex facility-wide installations as well as smaller systems. The flexible TR-T system enables any control system in any location to easily and rapidly re-configure control of cameras and studios in other physical locations. Automated functions allow precise control over shot recall, with minimal intervention, enabling an operator to truly multi-task, without losing any on-air flexibility.

SPI-Touch
SPI-Touch offers a totally new way of positional calibration for Virtual Studios. Simply designate two different points through SPI-Touch’s viewfinder and press the button at each of the points. The camera position will be instantly calibrated. SPI-Touch eliminates the need to mark the studio floor and move the pedestal making calibration easy and fast.

HARMAN JBL Professional Cinema Systems Power the Prestigious PVR Juhu in Mumbai

MUMBAI, India – HARMAN International India Pvt. Ltd. has successfully completed an audio system installation with HARMAN JBL Professional cinema loudspeakers at PVR Cinema in Juhu, Mumbai. PVR Cinema is India’s leading and premium cinema exhibition chain.

PVR Cinema in Juhu consists of five auditoriums, which have varied seating capacity ranging from approximately 100 to 300 seats. Due to its prime location, the Juhu property of PVR hosts previews and premieres of most of the major movie releases every week. With Mumbai at the heart of the Bollywood community, PVR had to ensure that its Juhu cinema location provided the best-in-class cinema experience, especially concerning the audio and projection systems.

Since PVR Juhu is considered a premium cinema, and, since it has been open for a few years, PVR decided to upgrade the sound systems to meet the latest technology standards. PVR Juhu sought the expertise and consultation of the HARMAN Professional India team for the refurbishment and upgrade of the sound systems for all the screens in the cinema. Samir Mistry, Application Engineer, HARMAN Professional India, carried out the system installation with assistance from Hi-Tech Audio Systems, the authorized India distributor for HARMAN Professional products in India. With the advent of 3D cinema, it was evident that the sound systems would have to match the requirements of the latest developments in worldwide cinema standards and also leave sufficient scope for upgrades.

PVR opted for HARMAN JBL 5742 ScreenArray(r) loudspeaker systems and 4642A subwoofers in each of the five auditoriums, along with JBL 8340A surround speakers in three auditoriums and JBL 8350 surround speakers in two auditoriums. Crown DSi 2000, 4000 and 6000 amplifiers power the systems.

The new system, designed by the HARMAN Professional India team, has the capability of handling high sound levels with ample headroom, enabling PVR Juhu to provide its customers with a unique and immersive cinema experience.

There were some challenges as well. Since it is a fully functional multiplex, the installation had to be performed during non-show hours (late night to early morning), with the auditoriums up and running for the next day’s shows to begin on time.

Today, the feedback from both the film fraternity and the general public is overwhelmingly positive. Commenting on the successful installation, Mr. JC Mehta, Vice President of Engineering, PVR Cinemas Ltd said, “Although film is by definition a visual medium, the story is incomplete without sound. The entire cinema-going experience has undergone a sea change in India with multiplexes and the mall culture. PVR has been constantly following and adapting all the latest international trends and standards in cinema sound. A prime example of this is PVR Juhu, Mumbai where we have done a complete revamp of the audio equipment as part of our philosophy in providing the best quality. We have therefore invested in the latest JBL speakers and the latest DSi digital amplifiers from Crown to support our requirements in supporting 3D sound. Needless to say, our patrons are extremely happy with the enhanced movie viewing experience.”

“The system has been designed to deliver its fullest output in all scenarios, with ease of use in mind,” said Ankush Agarwal, Senior Manager, Marketing, HARMAN Professional India. “Most importantly, the headroom for all variations and the control in sound output are now best managed with this combination of high-performance HARMAN cinema systems. It is capable of handling high sound levels with ample headroom and effectively reproduces soft whispers to the loudest bang.”

HARMAN (www.harman.com) designs, manufactures and markets a wide range of audio and infotainment solutions for the automotive, consumer and professional markets – supported by 15 leading brands, including AKG, Harman Kardon, Infinity, JBL, Lexicon and Mark Levinson. The Company is admired by audiophiles across multiple generations and supports leading professional entertainers and the venues where they perform. More than 25 million automobiles on the road today are equipped with HARMAN audio and infotainment systems. HARMAN has a workforce of about 13,000 people across the Americas, Europe and Asia, and reported net sales of $4.2 billion for twelve months ending December 31, 2011.

Even the American and Canadian national anthems, sung by Mary J. Blige and Neverest, respectively, were amped. As they did last year, NBA Entertainment entrusted Wireless First/Clair Global with the monumental task of (1) handling wired and wireless audio for all of the performers and events and (2) delivering it to the house and to the broadcast feeds, in addition to providing behind-the-scenes communications.
