RMC Upgrades Paris Studios With Pair of HARMAN Studer OnAir 3000 Digital Consoles

PARIS, France — RMC (the former Radio Monte Carlo) has added a pair of HARMAN Studer OnAir 3000 digital broadcast consoles to its studio production facilities in Paris—configured and supplied by the Broadcast Division of Audiopole, Studer’s French distributors.

Originally created in 1943 in Monaco, RMC was acquired in 2001 by private French group, Nextradio TV Group, who opened new studios in Paris and closed down the facilities in Monaco.

Today RMC is ranked third among the privately owned radios in France; its on-air programme is focused on news and sports, interacting heavily with listeners, particularly during the morning show phone-in segments.

The new Studer consoles are the latest phase in a relationship with Audiopole that extends back more than a decade. When Nextradio first opened the new Paris studios in 2001 it equipped its three studios with Studer OnAir 2000’s—and Audiopole’s Broadcast Division Director, Jean-Philippe Blanchard, was again on hand to meet the latest requirement this time around.

Currently running with two identical studios (one dedicated to the on-air programme and the other to the production), RMC decided it was time to upgrade its consoles, along with some other equipment.

“Two teams were set up to survey the market—the user team and maintenance team,” said Ruben Vicente, Technical Director deputy in charge of the project. “Several consoles were evaluated and finally both teams decided upon the OnAir 3000.”

The desks are equipped with 18 faders to control the microphones, with the external lines coming from Codecs, the telephone lines and the audio servers.

The OnAir 3000 design is based around the same patented ‘Touch-n-Action’ philosophy as the successful Studer OnAir 2000, with colour GUI screens, which the station had used previously—but this time with a completely modular desk and a new DSP engine.

“We had been very happy with the reliability and ease of use of the OnAir 2000 and the studio technicians experienced the same way of working with the OnAir 3000—with a lot of additional functionalities. For example, the talkback system to the codec lines are now handled by a Talkback Box with displays, as part of the OnAir 3000 system. This box directly remotes the routing of the console.”

Future plans include the installation of a Studer RELINK system between the consoles, so that the sources can easily be shared.

X2O Media – DSE Preview

Company Quote:
“This year is going to be X2O’s biggest DSE yet, as we team up with several of our partners to show how X2O can deliver any content to any screen, anywhere,” said David Wilkins, President and CEO of X2O Media. “In addition to our most advanced video wall demo featuring live social media and interactivity via Microsoft(R) Kinect(TM), we will debut several powerful new solutions such as the X2O Social Hub, a multichannel version of the NITRO Digital Signage Player, and Meeting Manager software. Visitors to our booth will also see firsthand how the X2O Portal’s powerful content management tools can be used to drive players from partners with our new ‘Open Content Management Framework.’”

X2O Media at DSE 2012:
Several technology partners will join X2O Media in booth 823 to demonstrate how the Xpresenter(TM) digital signage platform can power a variety of screens, from 3D and large-format LED to handheld tablets. X2O players will be driving a gigantic 114-inch NanoSlim display from NanoLumens, an interactive wayfinding screen, tablet applications, and the new X2O Social Hub application. To highlight X2O’s new “Open Content Management Framework” initiative, the X2O Portal will also be supporting third-party players from Exceptional 3D and Frame Jazz.

New From X2O Media at DSE 2012:

Introducing the X2O “Open Content Management Framework”
X2O Media’s Web-based portal not only lets users manage digital assets that are displayed with X2O’s award-winning players, but now integrates with a number of third-party players, including the Frame Jazz Digital Signage Display, and players from Exceptional 3D, providers of glasses-free 3D displays. This “opening” of the X2O Portal is a strategic shift for X2O, which is encouraging player manufacturers to use its powerful content management platform while continuing to support its own players. With the X2O “Open Content Management Framework,” partner players will have access to a comprehensive user management system that allows digital signage network administrators to define user roles and permissions, limiting access to specific portal features, player locations, and content. It also provides them with real-time data feed-management tools. X2O will continue to promote and evolve its own real-time players, including the award-winning NITRO Player.

X2O Social Hub
X2O Media is leading the industry in integrating social media content with digital signage, and will demonstrate the X2O Social Hub for the first time at DSE 2012. Inspired by the success of its extremely popular Twitter(TM) Cube demo app, X2O Media introduces a next-generation, social-media-based interactive application: the X2O Social Hub. Featuring real-time content from popular sites including Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, the X2O Social Hub allows users to customize their experiences by defining the application’s social media sources. In addition, users can interact with an innovative “YouTube Cube” object to browse YouTube video clips matching their search terms. All X2O Social Hub graphics are presented in an eye-popping 3D format, and the application can be customized with logos and other branding elements.

New Version of NITRO Player: NITRO Multichannel Player
In addition to partner players, X2O Media’s own players will be powering numerous displays in X2O’s booth. DSE 2012 will mark the debut of the new multichannel version of the NITRO Player, which supports several channels of content. The demonstration at DSE will be driving four displays from one cost-effective unit. Providing unparalleled performance and exciting new display possibilities for any kind of dynamic digital signage content, NITRO combines stunning graphics and real-time animations with powerful features such as an innovative Channel-in-Channel capability for a virtually unlimited number of overlapping channel layers, and integrated 3D support for the creation of 3D objects and tickers. Representing an evolutionary leap in digital signage graphics, the platform is bolstered with support for multitouch touch screens and for any-resolution output — from single screens to giant multiscreen command centers and video walls.

Interactive Meeting Room Signs
The Xpresenter(TM) Meeting Manager software displays meeting room reservations and event schedules that are updated directly from Microsoft(R) Outlook(R) or by touching the interactive meeting room display screen. Coupled with the cloud-based X2O Portal — a comprehensive content management portal — users can quickly schedule and monitor content from an intuitive Web interface.

New Version of Xpresenter(TM) vClips Powered by NITRO
X2O Media will display the latest version of its Xpresenter(TM) vClips video kiosk, the first product to be powered by the NITRO graphics platform. The Xpresenter vClips video kiosk is a complete interactive video application that allows users to browse and play back video clips using a simple touch-screen interface. With NITRO, the latest version of vClips combines new dynamic display capabilities, including a 3D video carousel that displays HD videos with simple on-screen navigation.

AURALEX ACOUSTICS HELPS SOUNDCHECK REPUBLIC

EAST GREENBUSH, NY, MARCH 1, 2012 – When Seth Powell, owner and engineer of SoundCheck Republic Recording Studio, enlisted the services of Dominick Campana, owner of Pro Sound Associates, to partner with him on the design of his newly relocated facility, Campana turned to Auralex Acoustics, the industry leader in innovative sound control solutions, for the studio’s sound treatment needs.

A range of Auralex products were utilized, both in the construction phase as well as for post-construction wall treatments. To ensure maximum isolation, Auralex’s SheetBlok™ Sound Isolation Barrier, RC-8™ Resilient Channel and U-Boat™ Floor Floaters were installed. Wall treatments include Auralex’s WavePrism™ and QuadraTec™ bamboo diffusors, along with the company’s environmentally friendly four-inch Studiofoam® Metro™ acoustic foam.

As the studio is located on the second floor of a large historic home in a residential area, sound isolation was key for the SoundCheck Republic project. In order to provide a space that was acoustically accurate, the room was completely gutted. The room was then redesigned to ensure the flow and wall configurations were correct. The main isolation component was Auralex’s SheetBlok. Made of a dense, limp-mass vinyl material, SheetBlok is about 6dB more effective than solid lead at stopping the transmission of sound. It acts as a thin, dense sound barrier layer in walls, ceilings or floors and is most effective when used as one component of a multi-layered construction scheme.

“The use of the Auralex SheetBlok made a huge difference in keeping the sound isolated to the studio,” adds Campana. “We pretty much went all out in sealing the room and even created custom inserts for the windows. After installing the SheetBlok, we had a full rock band practice in the studio and it measured 124 DB inside the room and there was absolutely no sound outside. The materials just worked awesome and Seth is very pleased.”

In order to make sure the walls were separated from the actual structure, Auralex’s RC-8™ 24′ x 8′ resilient channels were used. On the floor, Auralex’s U-Boats™ were used to support the framing, and isolate and decouple them from the surrounding structure.

SoundCheck Republic also features Auralex’s WavePrism and QuadraTec diffusors, part of Auralex’s Sustain Bamboo Sound Diffusor Series, along with Auralex’s environmentally friendly four-inch StudioFoam Metro throughout the space. The QuadraTec’s unique tiered design provides excellent scattering properties, resulting in a warm, musical character to the dispersed sound. The Auralex WavePrism eliminates flutter echoes and other acoustical anomalies without removing acoustical energy from the space. The differing heights of protrusions of the acoustic Studiofoam Metro products serve to spread sonic energy out in the time domain, as well as each absorbing a slightly different slice of the frequency spectrum

“A predominant feature of the studio is its use of bamboo,” says Campana. “The Auralex bamboo diffusers were the perfect match both aesthetically and acoustically for the project. The use of the diffusers provides the ability to open the space up in a really natural way, resulting in a response associated with much larger rooms.”

Campana was so pleased with the finished product that he plans to use the studio as a showcase, bringing in potential clients to show them studio construction examples and the different uses for the Auralex products and product line.

“Auralex’s ability to provide a wide array of top-of-the-line products that are easy to install make them the obvious choice for me,” adds Campana. “From bass traps and corner traps to regular metro foam and the different types of diffusers, they provide all sorts of options that all can make a bad space sound great. In addition, Auralex’s customer service is consistently excellent and in Charlie Eaton, we have a very good rep in upstate New York.”

SoundCheck Republic’s state-of-the-art facility comes equipped with all of the latest equipment and has been used by such recording artists as Graham Parker, The Figgs and The Charlie Watts Riots.
