Neumann Introduces KK 204 and KK 205 Microphone Capsules, Designed to Complement Sennheiser’s 2000 Series Wireless Handheld Transmitter

Old Lyme, Conn. – April 16, 2012: Premium audio brand Neumann announced that it will be showcasing its new KK 204 and KK 205 microphone capsules at the Sennheiser booth [C2632] during NAB 2012. The new capsules, which are available in cardioid (KK 204) and supercardioid (KK 205) patterns, are compatible with Sennheiser’s 2000 series of wireless handheld transmitters.

The acoustic features of the KK 204 and KK 205 capsule heads are derived from the multiple award-winning wired Neumann stage microphones, the KMS 104 and KMS 105. The KK 204, with its cardioid pattern, ensures the best possible suppression of sound originating from 180 degrees to the rear, while the supercardioid KK 205 has greater directivity, and maximizes incident sound from the front as compared to sound from the rear. Due to the “single polar pattern design,” the polar patterns are very uniform over the entire frequency range and provide excellent resistance to feedback.

In developing the new capsules, particular importance was placed on the effective damping of pop sounds and handling noise, as well as on the extremely low level of self-noise. The KK 204 and KK 205 capsule heads also have an extremely wide dynamic range and were designed to be very easy to service.

The aesthetic design complements the construction of the SKM 2000 handheld transmitter, and each capsule — like the SKM 2000 transmitter — is available in both nickel and black finishes. Each capsule includes a large nylon bag designed to hold the capsules, the handheld transmitter, battery packs and additional accessories.

Sennheiser adds the SKP 300 G3 plug-on transmitter to its evolution wireless series

Old Lyme, Conn.–April 16, 2012– Audio specialist Sennheiser is extending its evolution wireless ew 300 G3 series with the addition of the SKP 300 G3 plug-on transmitter. Whether it is for a speaker’s podium or for fast mobile use in video productions, the SKP 300 G3 converts any conventional cabled microphone quickly and easily into a wireless version. The phantom power required by condenser microphones is also supplied by the rugged transmitter – a highly versatile device that enables cabled microphones to become wireless with ease.

“With the new SKP 300 G3, we are further expanding the application possibilities for the evolution wireless series,” explained Robb Blumenreder, channel manager for professional systems products at Sennheiser’s U.S. headquarters. “The plug-on transmitter comes with its own phantom power supply, enabling it to be combined with any microphone with an XLR-3 output.”

For applications in the Installed Sound sector, the plug-on transmitter can be combined with an EM 300 G3 rack-mount receiver, thus making it possible, for example, to have a speaker’s podium without the visual interference of cables or to implement mobile lecterns. For video journalists, the SKP 300 G3 is an ideal partner for the EK 100 G3 camera receiver.

The SKP 300 is powered by two AA batteries or the optional BA 2015 accupack. The plug-on transmitter is available in eight frequency ranges, and is quickly and easily synchronized with its receiver using an infrared link.

The SKP 300 will be available in April 2012.

JVC Introduces Handheld Mobile News Camera at NAB 2012

New GY-HM650 Transfers Footage Directly to Station with FTP Transfer

WAYNE, NJ – JVC Professional Products Company, a division of JVC Americas Corp., has ushered in a new era of mobile newsgathering with its new GY-HM650 ProHD handheld mobile news camera, which can shoot and deliver news footage faster than ever. Equipped with dual codecs, it produces full HD files on one memory card while simultaneously creating smaller, Web-friendly files (1/4 HD) on a second card. With built-in FTP and Wi-Fi connectivity, the GY-HM650 delivers the footage back to a station without a microwave or satellite connection.
With a built-in Fujinon wide angle 23x zoom lens, superior low-light performance, and excellent sensitivity (F11 at 2000 lux), the GY-HM650 has ideal optics for challenging shooting environments. The HD lens has a focal range of 29mm-667mm (35mm equivalent) and includes manual focus, servo zoom, and iris rings, along with three ND filters and a removable hood. Other features include JVC’s auto-focus with face detection and an optical image stabilizer.
Equipped with three, 1/3-inch 1920×1080 12-bit CMOS sensors, the lightweight GY-HM650 records HD or SD footage in multiple file formats, including native XDCAM EX™ (.MP4), Final Cut Pro™ (.MOV), and AVCHD, to non-proprietary SDHC or SDXC media cards. It also records .MXF files with rich descriptive metadata that is optimized for asset management. The camera also includes HD-SDI and HDMI outputs for easy monitoring of HD footage.
“Newsgathering and independent production continue to evolve. One or two-person teams have become commonplace, and many shooters are capturing images for TV, the Internet, and mobile devices,” said Craig Yanagi, manager, marketing and brand strategy. “With built-in Web connectivity, simultaneous recording of a Web-friendly video file, and .MXF files with rich descriptive metadata, the GY-HM650 is ideal for today’s file-based workflows.”
Designed for versatility, the GY-HM650 features a 1.22 MP color viewfinder and color 3.5-inch LCD to handle run-and-gun and tripod-based stand-ups. The Pre Rec (retro cache) feature continuously records and stores up to five seconds of footage in cache memory to help prevent missed shots of breaking news, while a second trigger and servo zoom control on the built-in handle makes it easy to record while holding the camera at low or high angles.
In addition, the GY-HM650 provides a number of essential audio features. Its built-in stereo microphone is ideal for capturing natural sound on location, but the camera also includes two XLR inputs with phantom power and a shotgun mic holder, as well as a headphone jack and separate input for a wireless mic receiver.
The GY-HM650 will be demonstrated at the 2012 NAB Show (Booth C4314), which runs April 16-19 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev. It has a suggested list price of $5,695 and will be available in Winter 2012.

New PESA easyPORT ‘Throw Down’ Converter Boxes Deliver Broadcast Quality Conversion at NAB 2012

Huntsville, Alabama – PESA, a leading U.S.-based custom design and build manufacturing company for professional audio and video signal distribution, introduced its new series of easyPORT “throw down” multi-format converter boxes today at the 2012 NAB Show (Booth SL9615), which runs April 16-19 in Las Vegas, Nev. At the heart of the easyPORT concept is PESA’s compact four-port utility switch, which incorporates standard SFP-type pluggable module card cages. The easyPORT card cages can be populated to fit practically any combination of input and output signals, including HDMI/DVI, 3G-SDI, ASI, NTSC/PAL, and IP-to-ASI conversion.

easyPORT is currently available in 22 different configurations to handle a wide range of video conversion and distribution needs, but “blank” boxes can be customized for specific I/O applications. For example, HDMI can be converted to 3G-SDI, NTSC/PAL can be encoded to SDI, ASI can be converted to an IP transport stream, and coaxial cable runs can be converted to fiber optic transports. All video formats are transcoded or converted internally, and signals can be distributed over several possible transmission paths, including coax, fiber, and CATx for IP.

Internal to each easyPORT module is a switch fabric that allow users to select which input goes to which output. The module can also be set as a distribution module, allowing any single input to be transmitted to up to four outputs. With a 3G-SDI backbone, signal quality up to 1080p60 can be supported.

With built-in Ethernet and USB connectivity, easyPORT modules can be controlled over a network or locally. Each module includes PESA’s user-friendly CATTRAX software, which provides a simple interface for diagnostics, setup, and switching. Both USB and network connections can be displayed simultaneously, and multiple easyPORTs on the same network can be controlled and managed from a single software session. Changes for networked modules can be done anywhere on the network, but if a local check is required, the module can be simultaneously connected to a PC via USB.

The compact easyPORT can be mounted under a table, on the wall, or in an optional 1 RU power distribution frame. Up to four modules can be installed in a frame for shared power, reducing the need for multiple AC power plugs.

PESA Introduces PERC3000 Server-Based System Controller

Huntsville, Alabama – PESA, a leading U.S.-based custom design and build manufacturing company for professional audio and video signal distribution, today introduced its server-based PERC3000 system controller. Building on the functionality of its widely popular predecessor, the PERC2000, the new PERC3000 supports single or dual configurations for demanding live production environments. The new system will be demonstrated at the 2012 NAB Show (Booth SL9615), which runs April 16-19 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Network, Web, and mobile applications can be supported with the PERC3000’s extensible server architecture. The PERC3000 provides a standard platform that can be easily scaled in the future as system performance demands and complexities increase. Its 1 RU commercial server utilizes a Debian distribution of the Linux operating system for deterministic and reliable operation. The system controller works in conjunction with PESA’s new TOUCH 72 remote control panel, which features 72 LCD pushbuttons and a 320×240 touch-screen display.

Regardless of where routing switchers are located, the PERC3000 provides remote control functionality, including real-time configuration with virtually zero download time. It uses network IP communications with all major system elements including routers, remote control panels, and third-party control providers. It also supports all current PESA routing switchers and RCP panels, as well as legacy products using the PRC communications protocol. Each panel has its own graphical panel setup menu for configuration information, including pushbutton source/destination assignments, addressing, and lock/protect.

With the PERC3000’s icon-based status interface, it is easy to check matrix, tieline, presets, salvo, communications, and more. Information in each status window automatically updates as changes occur for immediate feedback. It also offers full diagnostic capabilities to verify operation of the matrix control to the physical cross-point.

The PERC3000 supports up to 17 levels of control, 64 components, 256 tieline interconnects, 256 salvos, and 8,192 sources and destination names (increased from the PERC2000 limit of 2,400 names). Its virtual matrix mapping sets logical cross-point definitions within a physical matrix, so the cross-point can be assigned as needed. For systems that require video sources such as RGB, Y/C, composite, and other multi-level signal formats, the controller allows the router to be segmented into smaller matrices. The PERC3000 is fully compatible with PESA’s new browser-based Cattrax Web user interface, which is also being introduced at NAB.

A tieline is a link between levels of control, allowing an input on one matrix level to be available to outputs on another matrix level. As a result, all sources on a router are available through a specific physical connection between dissimilar matrix signal types. The PERC3000’s tieline management control interface makes it easy to manage grid representation for tielines, allowing quick status and administrative override capabilities, as well as allowing the matrices to be treated as one large multi-format system.

Salvos allow a user to change cross-points on multiple destinations from a single “take” operation. Advanced configuration parameters for source, destination, and level can be setup to simplify operations when simultaneous cross-point switches must be taken together.

The PERC3000 will be available in early Q4 2012.

New PESA Remote Control Panel Includes Touch-Screen, Programmable LCD Push Buttons for Intuitive Switching

Huntsville, Alabama – PESA, a leading U.S.-based custom design and build manufacturing company for professional audio and video signal distribution, today announced the TOUCH 72 remote control panel. Featuring 72 programmable LCD push button switches in an 18×4 configuration along with a color touch-screen display, it provides a powerful, intuitive interface for accurate switching operations in a compact 2 RU package that is only three inches deep. The new panel will be demonstrated at the 2012 NAB Show (Booth SL9615), which runs April 16-19 in Las Vegas, Nev.

The 320×240 full-color TFT touch-screen displays the continuous status of destination, source, preset, level, and lock information. User menus, also available from the main screen, can be used for multi-output salvo switching or to provide extended pages of sources or destinations. With its soft menu structure, the TOUCH 72 can be reconfigured on the fly for alternative modes of operation or different sets of source and destination configurations.

Each pushbutton can be configured as a source, destination, level, or salvo. Up to 16 characters can be used to identify each switch, and individual switch background colors can be assigned as well. Names are dynamically updated on each affected LCD switch as the system configuration is changed.

In addition to the standard preset/take panel operation, the TOUCH 72 offers a “hot take” operation, which allows an operator in a live production to take a single source directly online with a single switch press. Standard switching combinations and modes, such as audio-follow-video, video only, and audio only, as well as complex multi-level audio breakaways, are also supported.

Like other PESA remote panels, each TOUCH 72 can be individually customized or it can share sources, destination lists, and additional system configurations with other TOUCH 72 panels for easy grouping. Panel configurations can be edited – or copied then edited – to reduce the time needed to prepare a panel for online operation.

The TOUCH 72 operates in a network environment and includes two RJ45 network connections to support daisy-chain configurations or standard home-run network wiring topology for each panel. As a software-based product, its functionality can be easily expanded after initial deployment to take advantage of new features as they are developed.

Two-day seminar on Powercube™ power and processing module yields maximum results

Eastern Acoustic Works® Debuts Next-Generation Avalon by EAW® Dance Club Loudspeakers

Whitinsville, MA, USA, April 11, 2012 – EAW®, a world-renowned loudspeaker designer and manufacturer, has announced the launch of the first two products in the all-new, next-generation Avalon by EAW line of dance club loudspeaker systems. The line was co-designed by legendary dance club designer/owner John Lyons, whose Avalon Hollywood club is a favorite performance venue for world-class DJs. Lyons worked with EAW in the late 1990s to produce the original line of Avalon loudspeakers. The announcement was made by EAW President Jeff Rocha.

“Once again, John Lyons has helped EAW go to places we never thought we could go,” Rocha said. “Not only do the loudspeakers reach a new level of performance, power and clarity, but we’ve developed fit and finish techniques that put us on a par with luxury automobile manufacturers.”

Avalon by EAW represents a radical departure from all previous dance club loudspeaker systems, putting cutting-edge acoustical technology in a package that appeals to the design-conscious dance club market. The industrial design turns the loudspeaker inside-out, mounting the exposed mid/high horn in front of the grille. And the concave grille – sculpted in clean, straight lines – expresses the bilateral symmetry that unifies the design.

The products released include the CLUB.two and CLUB.three. Each is a three-way system using a horn-loaded, ultra-efficient, coaxial mid/high compression driver. The CLUB.two includes four 12-in LF cone transducers mounted in a vertically and horizontally symmetrical pattern and axially aligned with the mid/high section. The CLUB.three uses a single, ferociously powerful 15-in LF cone mounted in a triaxial configuration behind the mid/high section.

In both cases, the symmetry allows for the application of slight mid/high delay to produce an apparent unified origin, as if output across the entire frequency range were originating from a single point. EAW has used a similar technique in a single plane across their product range for many years, and Avalon by EAW takes the technique to a new level of output and performance.

“This absolutely sets a new standard for club sound,” John Lyons said. “Beyond the power we’ve gotten from the new generation of components, the symmetry gives these systems an unprecedented level of clarity. The sonic imaging is simply amazing.”

In addition to a radical design and state-of-the-art acoustical technology, Avalon by EAW also sets a new benchmark for fit and finish in the pro audio space. The products are available in a range of color and finish options. “There is no such thing as a ‘standard’ Avalon by EAW,” Rocha said.

While base-level products can be ordered in traditional, textured black paint, customers must specify the powder-coated grilles in Siren Red, Medallion Gold, Starlight Sparkle Silver or Machine Grey. The horns and a surrounding trim piece may color match the grille or may be Piano Black.

Beyond that, customers can upgrade to a high-grade, automotive finish for the enclosures, choosing from Piano Black or Polar White. These eye-catching finish options caught the eye of many attendees at ISE in Amsterdam in February 2012, where Avalon by EAW received a special preview. “It might have been the most photographed display at the whole tradeshow,” Rocha said.

Because Avalon by EAW goes so far beyond any existing dance club loudspeaker system, Lyons and EAW have decided to set a high bar for access to them, requiring a design proposal to be submitted and approved before an order can be placed.

“The point is to ensure the every installation is an absolute gem,” Lyons said. “If you think you’re ready to step up to this level, talk to EAW. But know up-front that if you’re going to use Avalon by EAW, you’re going to do it right.”

All design proposals will undergo review by EAW’s Application Support Group (ASG). Proposals can be submitted as anonymous venues, ensuring confidentiality to the club design community. Each proposal will receive a registration number to track the project as it proceeds. As necessary, ASG will recommend revisions to the design proposal. After approval, customers can select their colors and place their orders, including the project registration number. EAW will check the order against the registered proposal to ensure that all necessary equipment is included. Once the installation is complete, ASG will inspect the installation and assist with the commissioning process.

“When the system is installed and commissioned,” Rocha said, “we’ll present the club with a plaque, stating that it is Avalon Certified. It’s the closest thing pro audio has to a velvet rope. It may sound hokey, but that club – the club of Avalon Certified venues – will be as exclusive as, well, as an Avalon Certified club.”

Controls

NLS Channel/Buss Controls:

Studio sets the console type.
Drive controls the amount of harmonic distortion, increasing the input signal and decreasing the internal headroom.
Output / Trim controls gain adjustment.
VCA Group assigns the NLS instance to a VCA Group, for global control via the VCA Groups Console.
Link toggles between Dual Mono mode, where the left and right channels are not identical models, and Stereo mode, where left and right are identical (NLS stereo Channel only).
Mic controls the headroom by simulating mic input levels. (NLS Channel only)
Bypass deactivates analog harmonics, noise and frequency response effects.
Noise activates modeled analog noise.
VCA Tab shows and hides the VCA Groups Console section.
