Mitsubishi Announces 4K Industry-Grade Display

Mitsubishi Electric Committed to 4K-Resolution with New 56P-QF65LCU LCD Industrial-Grade Display

IRVINE, Calif., April 24, 2012 — Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions America, Inc. continues its commitment to 4K resolution with its new 56P-QF65LCU monitor. This LCD display offers QFHD (quadruple full high-definition) resolution with an unsurpassed 3840 x 2160 pixels, which means that more than eight megapixels are displayed on one 56-inch screen—an enormous amount of crystal clear visual content on one device.

“While some manufacturers have cut 4K from their product lines, Mitsubishi is committed to this necessary resolution,” said Matt Krstulja, national sales manager, Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions America, Inc. “There are many applications, particularly in industrial, health and physical sciences, which need this type of super-high resolution. Mitsubishi Electric is here to meet that need.”

The 56P-QF65LCU monitor is specifically designed for small group collaboration; the 4K super high-definition resolution makes it ideally suited for environments that may have limited real estate or in intimate settings where people must analyze dense amounts of data. These include applications in science, engineering, financial services, mapping, satellite imagery, utilities, government, armed forces and law enforcement.

Mitsubishi’s 56P-QF65LCU allows one person to observe a wide range of data on one screen. The new QFHD monitor condenses information from a tiled display wall used in electric plants, government and armed forces facilities, police situation rooms, financial control rooms and other environments, sending them to one source for quick and accurate viewing on a single LCD panel. Managers can streamline and supervise operations at one location on one screen for quick and efficient observation and monitoring.

The 56P-QF65LCU LCD monitor uses a Super MVA LCD featuring 3840 x 2160 pixels with a 50,000 hour back-light lifetime, and has two brightness modes for installation flexibility: power-saving normal (480 watts) and bright (540 watts).

Sending information to this display requires only a computer or display wall processor capable of four 1080p output channels.

A standard VESA Mounting Structure is included to allow the monitor to be easily installed on a wall or ceiling. With a wide viewing angle of 176° +/- horizontally and vertically, the 56P-QF65LCU LCD monitor can be clearly viewed from virtually any seating position.

Mitsubishi’s 56P-QF65LCU is available through authorized Mitsubishi Electric dealers and systems integrators. The monitor comes with Mitsubishi Electric’s two-year limited warranty on parts and labor. Terms and conditions apply.

Stampede Helps Chile’s Lumina Motion Create Massive One-Of-A-Kind 3D Video Mapping Experience For Launch Of Nokia Lumia 800 Smartphone

Proving once again that it has unbeatable product selection and extensive knowledge of the ProAV market, Stampede Presentation Products, Inc. recently helped Lumina Motion construct a stunning 10,000 square foot video display on the facade of a round building in Santiago, Chile by providing the ideal equipment and precise development insight needed.

The audiovisual team at Lumina Motion was tasked with creating an exciting and memorable product launch for Nokia’s new Lumia 800 smartphone, and they succeeded by working with Stampede to utilize the best technology, share industry know-how and ensure patient attention to every technical detail.

According to Lumina Motion Owner Gonzalo de la Barra, “We at Lumina Motion know that when you’re producing a live event, everything has to be perfect. Stampede knows this too, which is why they recommended the eight Christie Full HD projectors and Geffen Fiber Optic cables to produce over 10,000 square feet of HD video display with precision timing between all eight projectors. We don’t have the luxury of second chances, so having a reliable and knowledgeable equipment provider is important, and Stampede helps us deliver the first time, every time.

“With the help of Stampede’s knowledgeable sales staff and incredible selection of gear, we are consistently able to deliver beyond our clients’ expectations. Stampede actually helps us better understand this rapidly evolving market by sending us the latest product info, making recommendations, providing quotes quickly and delivering products in record time. We always want to get the best deal, and they are always very helpful regarding purchasing decisions and meeting our price expectations.”

Indeed, the project proved a phenomenal success. The Lumina Motion staff executed this highly complex 3D video mapping project with surgical precision after countless hours of testing. They painstakingly blended the 8 video signals together by hand with geometrical correction, covered the building’s glass façade with a special adhesive to make it a viable projection surface, guaranteed accurate power and data relay and timing, and accounted for all variables including ambient light and local construction.

“Our presence in Latin, Central and South America is nearly as strong as our presence in North America,” said Stampede CEO Mark Wilkins. “And our ability to provide informed engineering, design and tactical assistance on projects like this is second to none. We’re proud to have been able to work so closely with such a skilled audiovisual experience provider as Lumina Motion, and we look forward to playing a major role in their long term success.”

The 3D mapping projection setup included eight Christie DHD800 FULL HD projectors connected through Geffen’s HDTV DVI-D Fiber Optic Cables for maximum image quality, reliability and precision timing. Kramer Digital Switchers were utilized for video signal backup.

According to Mario Riveros, Territory Manager — International Sales at Stampede, “The Stampede team has all the knowledge and tools necessary to help our partners make the right purchasing decisions and ensure success on every job. We work hard to keep them informed of new technologies that can impact their business, and then help create the perfect product configurations to meet their clients’ needs. By developing close relationships with our partners, we are able to respond quickly and effectively to all requests and we strive to provide solutions that are timely, cost effective and most importantly, the ideal solution for each particular job.”

Stampede is showcasing its entire portfolio of ProAV product lines at INFOCOMM 2012 at Booth #C7525 in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

These solutions include XPAND’s flagship active systems, as well as the new XPAND Polarizer and Color Spacer passive systems-all of which are High Frame Rate compatible.

“While our active 3D systems still offer the highest-quality cinema experience available, we recognize that each 3D cinema technology has its own unique set of advantages, and as the world’s leading 3D solutions provider, our goal is to offer a full variety of products that cover the entire scale of application and budget,” said Maria Costeira, CEO of XPAND 3D. “We are now the only company in the world to offer every 3D solution, and the performance of our products are second to none in each category!”

The new XPAND Infinity glasses are high-end active 3D glasses, which provide the brightest, most vivid and realistic 3D images available. All new XPAND cinema systems and glasses fully support HFR (High Frame Rate) double and single flash at 96fps, 120fps, 144fps, 192fps, 240fps and even variable fps. The Infinity 3D glasses provide up to 38% transparency and a 3000:1 contrast ratio. The glasses’ lightweight ergonomic designs ensure long-wearing comfort, and their wide 3D viewing angle provides an optimal 3D image across the entire cinema.

The XPAND Polarizer 3D system, a cost-effective 3D cinema solution using high-quality disposable circularly polarized 3D glasses and Active projector polarizer. The system works with all digital cinema projectors and requires the usage of a high-gain silver screen. The XPAND Polarizer system is recommended only for cinemas that are used exclusively for 3D movies. Hybrid cinemas that are used for both 2D and 3D movies are not recommended to use silver screens, due to the viewing zones and hot spot problems.

XPAND 3D Color Spacer: a passive, color wavelength-based 3D cinema solution. XPAND Color Spacer uses reusable passive Color Spacer glasses. The system is recommended only for custom installations with special needs.

Taylored Sound Ramps Up Offshore Europe with Community

Aberdeen, UK, April 2012…  Organized by Reed Exhibitions UK, the biennial SPE Offshore Europe conference and exhibition is the largest upstream oil and gas event outside North America. With some 1,500 exhibitors, the convention attracts an audience of around 50,000 visitors, including engineers, technical specialists, industry leaders, and experts from all over the world. Held at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, around 25,000 square meters (270,000 square feet) of temporary exhibition space is created in five giant marquees. Not surprisingly, a substantial PA system is required for information and safety announcements.

Taylored Sound, the Aberdeen-based pro audio rental and installation specialists, were commissioned to design and install the PA for the recent exhibition, and they designed a system based around Community R.25 loudspeakers. “The power and 90 x 40 degree dispersion of the Community R.25 was ideally suited for the large areas to be covered,” commented Taylored Sound’s Jimi Troup. “Their spoken word intelligibility is exceptional, and their compact size and light weight were a real advantage for fast installation. The entire break down took only three hours with just two people.”

A total of sixty-six R.25s were used to provide complete coverage for Halls 1 through 4, as well as at the entrance gates. In the four main halls the R.25s were mounted in pairs, spaced evenly along the apex of the steel-framed marquees. A Symetrix Solus 8, with eight mic/line inputs and eight outputs, provided paging configuration and control and the 28,000W available from three Powersoft K8 amplifiers provided more than ample headroom for the system.

“We brought in the complete stock of R.25s specifically for this event, and it was a good investment,” said Troup, “The organizers thanked us, saying it was the best PA they’d ever had for the exhibition. These R.25 loudspeakers will continue to lift the standard of audio quality for the great many smaller events we provide for throughout the year. They are incredibly robust, and with the Community heritage for all-weather durability we can use them at any type of public event. With many years of service ahead, these hard-working loudspeakers will pay back their investment many times over.”

Berklee College Commissions WSDG For Major Projects

Berklee 160 Mass WSDG – Presentation Drawing – Level B1Berkley Valencia floor planConcurrent Work On Two Continents: Boston, Mass. & Valencia, Spain

NEW YORK: In a patent message of confidence in education and the inherent strengths of the world economy, the Berklee College of Music has embarked on a significant expansion program. In Valencia, Spain, an entirely new campus opened in January, 2012. In Boston, the first ground-up building in Berklee’s 66-year history, 160 Massachusetts Avenue, a 16-story, $100 million structure, began construction in December 2011. While U.S. and Spanish architects were engaged to create strikingly disparate footprints for each of these bold projects, a single internationally recognized studio design and acoustical consultancy, the Walters-Storyk Design Group, was commissioned to create the audio education studios for both these learning complexes.

“We have a long-standing relationship with WSDG, and with architect/acoustician John Storyk who designed Electric Lady Studios for Jimi Hendrix among many world-class studios all over the world,” Berklee president Roger H. Brown remarked. “In addition to designing a number of teaching studios and media rooms for our Boston campus, Mr. Storyk is a visiting professor for our MP&E Department. He developed Berklee’s signature studio design course and also lectures frequently to our music production and engineering students. Both 160 Mass. and our Valencia campus required exemplary creative and technical standards. We have every confidence in WSDG’s ability to exceed our expectations.”

Celebrated Spanish architect, Santiago Calatrava’s ultramodern Valencia Campus personifies Berklee’s total commitment to the future. WSDG partner/senior project manager, Romina Larregina, reports the sprawling 18,000 sq. ft. East Technical Wing features a 1360 sq. ft. recording studio which includes an 850 sq. ft. live room; four project/production studios ranging in size from 135 to 200 sq. feet; and multiple classroom/tech support environments “Berklee Valencia sets a new standard for European audio education and signal a new level of achievement for WSDG,” Larregina says. The firm’s 40+ years of designing professional recording environments and educational facilities includes such major schools as: NYU, the Universities of Colorado and Michigan and The Vatican’s new Javeriana University, in Bogota, Columbia.

Designed by William Rawn Associates (Boston), Berklee’s new 155,000 square-foot 160 Massachusetts Ave. tower will house eight WSDG recording studios, including a live room scaled to host a 60-piece orchestra. Scheduled for completion for the fall 2013 semester, the complex encompasses technical suites, classrooms, a film dubbing theater and, a unique, three-story 4000 square foot, 400-seat, dual purpose, auditorium/dining hall with a dramatic two-story glass wall facing Massachusetts Avenue.

“We are investing everything we have learned about acoustic excellence and educational prerequisites in these important assignments,” says Larregina, who is serving asWSDG PM on both projects. “In addition to maintaining close contact with local contractors, systems integrators and our offices in Brazil, Argentina, Barcelona and Switzerland, I made regular site visits to Valencia and continue to personally monitor the progress in Boston.

“Our international team is collaborating on every facet of these projects,” Larregina adds. “We have developed methods of pooling our mutual skill sets in technical drawing, systems integration, HVAC, room isolation, acoustical treatments, and the myriad related issues. We are particularly fortunate to have been engaged at the planning stage, as this enables us to anticipate and eliminate potential acoustic problems rather than having to devise ‘fixes,’ after the walls, floors and ceilings are in place.”

“Commissions on the scale of Berklee’s Boston and Valencia projects are rare in today’s economic environment, but these will be extraordinary campuses,” John Storyk concludes. “We engaged the most advanced predictive acoustic modeling software and have incorporated the latest acoustical and technical developments in every facet of our design to insure the highest degree of future-proofing for these studios and teaching labs. Roger Brown’s visionary commitment to bringing these schools to life speaks volumes about our faith in the future,” Storyk concludes. “Berklee will be preparing students for generations of creative, rewarding careers, both here and in Europe. WSDG is honored to be associated with this noble mission.”
