Renkus-Heinz Expands Sales Management

Phil Van Peborgh

Foothill Ranch, CA, May 2012… Renkus Heinz has announced two major changes to their sales management force.

Industry veteran Phil Van Peborgh has joined the company as Eastern Regional Sales Manager, while Technical Sales Manager Ladd Temple has been promoted to Western Regional Sales Manager.

Van Peborgh comes to Renkus-Heinz after several years as a manufacturers’ representative with Highway Marketing and TechRep. He was also Director of Marketing for social media portal Knetwit.com, and General Manager of video games magazine Polygon.

Prior to moving to the US in 2000, Van Peborgh spent more than a decade working in live sound, touring the US and Europe extensively as a FOH, Monitor and Production Engineer. His resume also includes several years as a systems integrator.

“We’re very excited to welcome Phil to Renkus-Heinz,” said Rik Kirby, VP of Sales and Marketing. “His extensive career experience across a wide range of professional audio positions gives him a unique first-hand perspective into the many different markets in which our products are found, and his proven track record in sales makes him an ideal fit for our continued growth.”

“Renkus-Heinz is not just one of the original loudspeaker manufacturers in our industry, they’re also one of the most innovative,” added Van Peborgh. “Few companies can boast a track record of so many industry firsts, across so many different pro audio sectors. I’m proud to be joining such a forward-thinking team, and am very much looking forward to getting out and meeting our representatives and our end users.”

Ladd Temple

Ladd Temple, who joined the company last year as Technical Sales Manager, has been promoted to the position of Western Regional Sales Manager. Temple, who came to Renkus-Heinz after several years with Peavey Electronics, has already been providing technical and sales support to Renkus-Heinz’s extensive representative and dealer network throughout the United States.

“Ladd’s work with our sales reps has not only afforded him an unparalleled technical knowledge of the entire Renkus-Heinz product line, but has fostered relationships that will be invaluable in his new position,” added Kirby.

Van Peborgh’s territory will include the United States east of the Mississippi. He will be working from his offices in Knoxville, TN, and can be reached via email at phil@renkus-heinz.com. Temple will now handle all territories west of the Mississippi, and will continue to be based in Texas. He can be reached at ladd@renkus-heinz.com.

AES 132nd Convention A Hit In Budapest

Mercedes-Benz Signature Sound Audio & John Buckman Keynote Highlight Show

BUDAPEST: With over 100 paper, workshop, tutorial and networking events, 11 exhibitors and 805 attendees, the 132nd AES Convention was the most intimate yet intensive gathering in the organization’s 64-year history. Participant response to the event and, to the host city, was uniformly positive.

“Budapest exceeded our expectations as a distinctive site for our 2012 European convention,” stated AES Executive Director Bob Moses. “We attracted a number of eastern European audio professionals who had not previously had the opportunity to participate in an AES event. The feedback we received from them as well as from our traditional AES European Convention attendees was extremely positive.”

The convention was highlighted by the first surround recording, specifically mixed and mastered for the exotic new Mercedes SL Roadster. Presented by a blue-ribbon panel which included Leslie Ann Jones of Skywalker Sound, Mario Fresner of Daimler AG, Stefan Bock, msm-studios GmbH, Norbert Niemczyk, Daimler AG, Wieslaw Woszczyk of McGill University, and moderator Herbert Waltl of LA’s mediaHYPERIUM, the event demonstrated the “ultimate surround sound car listening experience.” Technical issues behind its development were discussed at length.

Keynote speaker John Buckman, a leading online label entrepreneur and Chairman of the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), provided deep insights into developing successful 21st century progressive music business models. Presentations spanning subjects from Smartphone technology to Virtual Microphones and the Beach Boys’ “Smile” sessions offered attendees invaluable insights, career tips and social networking opportunities.

Moses reports the quality of the research papers was particularly high thanks in part to a newly instituted Convention paper review process. “The turnout for Workshops and Tutorials was particularly strong,” he adds, “The rooms were packed and, while the exhibition was smaller than we had hoped, we deeply appreciate the support of Audiomonde, Auro Technologies, Charteroak, Crane Song, Delta Senselab, Linear Audio, Microtech Gefell, Neutrik, Profusion and Roland Systems Group East Europe. Our post-show conversations with them clearly substantiate their palpable sense of having made the right judgment call in being with us. “The 132nd Convention clearly confirms the importance of continuing the AES European show. We are already in the planning stages for our next event, and will be incorporating changes our stakeholders are requesting to add value and ensure its long term success” Moses concludes.

Commenting on his reaction to the 132nd Convention, David Josephson of Josephson Engineering who shared a booth with Crane Song, AEA and Hitspace remarked, “The show was really worthwhile. We saw a lot of students and pro users. The technical sessions seemed stronger and better attended than the last London show. We went because it was the first time we could reach out to buyers in Eastern Europe. The opportunity for seeing significant people is absolutely worth attending an event like this.”

France Television Places A Substantial Order For Jünger Audio Loudness Processing Equipment

The decision by France’s CSA (Conseil Supérieur de l’Audiovisuel) to link the EBU’s Loudness Recommendation R128 to its own audio-visual legislation is now focusing the attention of French broadcasters on purchasing loudness processing equipment that complies with the EBU R128 standard.

One manufacturer that has already benefited is German dynamics specialist Jünger Audio, which recently won a significant order for its loudness processing equipment from the French public broadcaster France Television.

Jünger Audio’s Managing Director Peter Poers says: “Our EBU R128-compliant loudness processing equipment has already been installed at every major broadcast facility in Germany and Switzerland, and we are delighted that France’s public broadcaster has also chosen to endorse our technology. Broadcasters have recognised the benefit of using our proprietary LEVEL MAGIC™ adaptive control algorithm and like the fact that it allows them to adjust the audio level from any source at any time, with no pumping, breathing or distortion. As a result it has become the algorithm of choice for line and real time processing.”

France Television is a state-owned company that consists of a number of channels including France 2, France 3, France 4, France 5 and France Ô. The broadcaster, which is primarily funded by revenue from television license fees, is highly influential with more than 40% of the French population watching its programming every day. As a public broadcaster it is firmly committed to providing high quality news, sports and entertainment programming that reflects a diversity of views.

The order France Television has placed with Jünger Audio is for a total of 73 loudness processors – 22 D*AP LM4 four-channel units and 51 D*AP LM2 two channel units. These are now being rolled out to France Television facilities and will eventually cover all Paris-based channels, plus all 23 regions, with each region having one Jünger Audio processor for its main transmission path and another for back-up.

France’s CSA decision to link with EBU R128 means that previously unenforceable laws on loudness can now be better defined and therefore enforced. This will protect viewers from the unpleasant and unpopular lurches in the volume of programmes and adverts that have resulted worldwide in so many complaints over the years.

In order to comply with the new law, French broadcasters must now ensure that all production and distribution equipment they use is compliant with EBU R128. They must also manage audio correctly and ensure that all material provided by production houses also complies with the new ruling. The new law is being introduced in three phases: normalization of short programmes from 1 January 2012, of live programmes by June 2012, and of all programmes by the end of 2012.

ASPEN™ 3232HD3G HONORED WITH TV TECHNOLOGY STAR AWARD AT NAB 2012

After four days with over 90,000 media and entertainment professionals in attendance, Kramer Electronics and Sierra Video’s Aspen 3232HD3G was recognized as one of the best and brightest products at the 2012 NAB show, when conferred the prestigious STAR award from TV Technology Magazine.

The STAR award (Superior Technology Award Recipient) recognizes superior technological innovations in the industry. Selection is made by a panel of broadcast industry experts who review the products and services found at the show and evaluate their overall contribution to the industry. The Aspen 3232HD3G was one of the few select products recognized and honored this year at our industries largest trade show.

This award, now in its twelfth year, is a shining recommendation of the Aspen 3232 3G-HD-SDI matrix switcher. This matrix switcher is a part of the Aspen line consisting of general utility 3G HD−SDI routing switchers ideal for use in any professional video installation, including rental and staging applications, higher education facilities, houses of worship, hospitals, broadcast facilities, broadcast production trucks, and post production facilities.

This high performance matrix switcher is compact, energy efficient and capable of driving long cable runs. Due to its advanced technology, the Aspen 3232HD3G router can drive signals farther than most typical 3G HD−SDI routing switchers. The device can drive 3G signals up to 557 feet (170 meters) with a high quality cable compared to a typical industry performance level of 328 feet (100 meters).

In addition to longer signal range, another stellar feature of the Aspen 3232HD3G is energy efficiency. This “green” device requires less than 32 Watts of power including the power consumed by its standard built−in routing switcher control system and front panel. This is far less than other comparable models available in the market today.

Another unique and extremely beneficial feature of the Aspen 3232HD3G is its embedded controller which can be accessed via a TCP−IP or RS 232/422 serial interface making it easy to integrate into any automation or control system. The built−in web server offers convenient control and setup functions and works with any OS, browser and most handheld devices. The user can even access an IP address from the front panel allowing for quick and convenient set up.

The Aspen 3232HD3G has a list price of $13,995.00. For more information on the Aspen line and the 3232HD3G, please visit www.kramerus.com.

Point Source Audio Launches “Unsinkable” Earworn Microphone

Point Source Audio’s NEW CO-5w Waterproof Mic Defends Against Steam, Sweat and Stage Make-up.

Novato, CA — Point Source Audio, manufacturer of the original and one-of-a-kind “unbreakable boom” earworn microphone, is making another big splash with their new “unsinkable” waterproof microphone.

The new CO-5w Waterproof Earworn Microphone is the waterproof version of the popular CO-5 that discriminating performers and pastors have come to rely on for years. The waterproof version combines all the reliable performance characteristics of the CO-5 with a special water-protected mic element to make the CO-5w virtually “unsinkable”. With 125dB of SPL, this splash proof microphone is ideal for those who speak or perform in outdoor environments such as theme and amusement parks, cruise ships, water parks, zoos, aquariums, or summer camps. Pastors conducting baptisms will discover the CO-5w is impenetrable even against accidental “splashing.” Stage performers and theatre actors will appreciate the waterproof microphone to defend against sweat and steam, as well as being able to gently rinse the microphone element with water after use to remove stage makeup—a fitting “wash and wear” feature for this audience.

“We’re super excited about our ‘unsinkable’ feature,” said Yvonne Ho, Vice President of Marketing at Point Source Audio. “Of course, we don’t recommend users drowning their wireless packs in water, but now they have a microphone shielded against humidity and water so it can be used almost anywhere.”

The CO-5w Waterproof Earworn Microphone has an omni-directional polar pattern that allows a full 360 degree pick up of sound providing a natural blend of voice and ambience. The design of the CO-5w lends itself to reduced speech produced “popping sounds” and voice overloads in close mic applications.

The CO-5w Waterproof Earworn Microphone is shipping now. The single-ear version retails for $335 MSRP, and the dual-ear version retails for $425. Point Source Audio Conceives Miniature Lavalier Mic from its Popular Earworn Series

CO-7L Miniature Lavalier Microphone

New CO-7L Can be Cleverly Camouflaged

Novato, CA — Point Source Audio launches the new CO-7L Miniature Lavalier in response to customer demand for a lavalier version of its flagship CO-7 earworn microphone.

The new CO-7L Miniature Lavalier fills a need for speakers in broadcast or theatre production who generally prefer or need an “invisible” option. The CO-7L element is extremely small so it can be cleverly hidden in the hairline, behind a button, or even attached to eyeglasses. It is also water-resistant to be more resilient against humidity and moisture stemming from breath or perspiration.
The CO-7L is a Miniature Omni-directional Condenser Lavalier Microphone that handles up to 140dB SPL, so it should be the choice for actors, broadcasters, presenters, or pastors looking for maximum intelligibility and clean, accurate reproduction. Additionally, the CO-7L is offered in multiple colors to allow matching or blending to hair, skin or clothing.

CO-7L Miniature Microphone

Customers that love our CO-7 Earworn Mic have been asking us for a sister lavalier for quite some time,” said Yvonne Ho, Vice President of Marketing for Point Source Audio. “There are definitely advantages and applications for both an earworn and lavalier; earworn mics are extremely easy to fit, while miniature lavs can be completely camouflaged.”
