Women in CE Announces Barbara B. Roberts as Closing Keynote Speaker for ‘Power Your Career in Consumer Electronics’ Forum

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — June 6, 2012 — Women in Consumer Electronics (CE) announced today that Barbara B. Roberts will present “Closing Notes from an Everyday Revolutionary!” at the Women in CE Career Enhancement Forum, scheduled June 26 in conjunction with CE Week in New York City. Roberts, a former top Wall Street executive and successful serial entrepreneur, is now the director of programs for the Lang Entrepreneurship Center of the Columbia Business School, Women Presidents Organization (WPO), and Tiger21.

“This is a very exciting time for women in technology, as more and more are taking the helm of high-caliber companies across all industry verticals,” said Roberts. “I am honored to be the closing keynote speaker for this high-profile event, and look forward to sharing my insights and expertise on successful strategies for the career advancement of women, a cause that I’m very passionate about.”

In second grade, Roberts led her fellow girl students on a sit-down strike until, for the first time at her school, they were allowed to carry the American flag. This began her life-long passion and work towards helping women secure their dreams and fair share of the political and economic pie. Her first battles were fought on Wall Street, where at the age of 37 she became the first woman on the board of Dean Witter. A 1986 story about her leaving Dean Witter in the Wall Street Journal coined the term the “glass ceiling,” and since then she has monitored data and reports on what it takes for a woman to advance in the professional world.

Following Dean Witter, Roberts went on to build and sell her own companies successfully, including FPG International, a photography agency, and Acoustiguide, museum audio services. Under her leadership, FPG became a leader in the delivery of photos via CDs and the Internet, while Acoustiguide was a pioneer in digital audio content delivery. Since selling Acoustiguide, Roberts’ passion has been to fuel the creation of more jobs for women by helping entrepreneurs and business owners.

Roberts’ closing keynote will highlight the key messages of the “Power Your Career in Consumer Electronics” Forum’s speakers, panelists, and moderators, adding her tips on what women can act on to step up their game.

“Recognized as an expert in what it takes for women to excel in corporate and entrepreneurial ventures, Barbara’s message resonates with the spirit in all of us that believe in seeking out opportunities and taking ownership of our career paths,” said Carol Campbell, founder of Women in CE. “We are thrilled that she can spend the day with us, recapping the messages of empowerment from the Forum and adding her personal lessons learned along the way of an impressive career.”

Bonnie Schnitta, fellow Women in CE and WPO member, and CEO of SoundSense, LLC, an acoustical engineering and consulting company, added: “I’m excited that Barbara will deliver the Women in CE Forum keynote address as I have known her as a business coach and mentor through WPO. I have found her guidance and encouragement to be invaluable. She has helped me advance my company by providing me everything from insightful crucial information, to essential contacts for the smallest of essential details, to large long-term business aspects. Most importantly her skilled business eyes picked up time critical items that needed my attention.”

“Power Your Career in Consumer Electronics,” the inaugural Career Enhancement Forum, kicks off June 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rubin Museum of Art, 150 West 17th Street, New York City.
