Zeehi’s CueCast Technology Allows User File Conversion Between Mixing Console Platforms

— Revolutionary new file conversion service streamlines workflow for front-of-house and monitor engineers, sound reinforcement companies, broadcasters, performing arts facilities, and production managers —

BOULDER, COLORADO, June 13, 2012 — Danny Abelson, Co-Founder of Zeehi, an entertainment technology company dedicated to developing solutions to improve the workflow of global entertainment production professionals, announces the Beta Release of the CueCast Digital Mixing Console User File Conversion Service. CueCast provides front-of-house and monitor engineers, sound reinforcement companies, broadcasters, performing arts facilities and production managers the ability to quickly and easily convert show files between different digital audio mixing console formats.

The current Beta Release of CueCast converts the most commonly used features and functions including bussing, sub-group assigns, control group assigns, routing, labeling, mutes and mute groups, EQ and dynamic in/out settings, aux. send on/off/and assigns, and effects and matrix on/off and assigns. Future releases will support additional console platforms, and will provide conversion of variable settings, snapshots, and many other features.

The web-based service solves a fundamental challenge: how to take user settings from one mixing console to another without the time-consuming headache of entering those settings manually, according to Abelson, a thirty year veteran of the pro audio community. “Thanks to the console expertise and software savvy of our development team, converting the user data is reliable and takes just three easy steps,” notes Abelson. “Simply upload your file to our secure site – www.cuecast.com – specify the format you need, and download the converted file for installation in the new console. If you like, we’ll store your files on our secure cloud for safekeeping. CueCast technology supports files from 24 to 196 inputs, and the Beta release supports file conversion between the Avid Venue, DiGiCo SD8 and SD10 and Yamaha PM5D platforms. Soon you can expect us to add many other formats and features to the service.”

“We are very fortunate in our industry,” continued Abelson. “The manufacturers have designed mixing consoles with remarkable features and sound quality. Unfortunately the formats in which user data is stored in these different platforms are not compatible with one another. Our research with some of the world’s most prestigious sound companies, veteran sound engineers, broadcasters, and leading production managers indicates that this incompatibility results in a significant burden to users. For a variety of reasons engineers often need to transfer those settings to a different brand or model of mixer depending on touring conditions, a venue’s installed equipment, or the availability of a particular console. These users identified a number of different scenarios, including festivals, touring without a console, change of production truck, unexpected equipment loss or failure, or availability where switching consoles is simply a necessity.”

“The opportunities digital has given us have been remarkable, but with these improvements come greater expectations by performers and management for crews to do more in less time. On a surprising number of occasions, digital solutions unintentionally create obstacles for the production team. Our goal is to improve workflow for entertainment industry professionals by streamlining this process, and make changing to another desk fast and easy.”

Three ELAN g! Homes Featured In CEDIA’s Spring 2012 Electronic Lifestyles Magazine

Asserting that its g! system is now the preferred choice of dealers and installers looking for a state-of-the-art entertainment and control system that is easy to install, easy to maintain, easy to update, and easy for the consumer to use across all control devices, ELAN® Home Systems today announced that three of the thirteen home installations featured in the forthcoming Spring 2012 edition of CEDIA’s Electronic Lifestyles® magazine are ELAN g! Systems.

Electronic Lifestyles magazine is published three times a year by North American Publishing Co. (NAPCO) and is the custom installation industry’s only lifestyle oriented coffee table-style magazine that is distributed to more than 30,000 dealers, installers, architects, interior designers, home builders and solutions manufacturers.

According to ELAN’ Paul Starkey, “Having three g! installations featured in the Spring 2012 edition of Electronic Lifestyles is a powerful illustration of just how much momentum has been achieved for this remarkable entertainment and control solution over the last two years. We believe that the ELAN g! Entertainment and Control System is absolutely the most user friendly solution that is also the easiest to install, expand and maintain, requiring the least amount of code and shorter installation time than competing systems. More and more dealers every day are discovering this for themselves and their businesses are growing as a direct result.”

The Spring 2012 edition of Electronics Lifestyles magazine will feature three homes with ELAN g! Systems installed by Piscataway, N.J.-based Electronics Design Group, Miami, Fla.-based Audio One, and Juarez, Mexico-based New Technology Experience.

The ELAN g! Entertainment and Control System provides users with the most uniform and intuitive icon-based control from their favorite devices including TVs, touchscreens, touchpads, PCs, iPhones and iPads. The standardized interface works across platforms, so that the trendy g!Mobile app users love on the iPhone appears and works similarly on ELAN touchscreens, valets and handheld remotes as well as users’ televisions and mobile devices. And the system’s IP backbone makes it just as easy to control the system from across the room – or across the globe.

Individual “apps” for each subsystem allow the user to control security, climate, lighting, media, irrigation, pool/spa, messaging, video and photos with the flick of a finger. Access is fast and secure through any ELAN home interface or globally with mobile Internet enabled devices like the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Netbooks and PC Tablets. Since the intuitive interface empowers users with personalized scheduling and detailed history views, high consumption subsystems like lighting and climate can be closely monitored and managed for a greener lifestyle – and substantial energy savings.

Clay Paky Sharpys Shine at GreenWaves III Concert at the University of Central Florida

Environmentally friendly Clay Paky Sharpy met eco-inspired GreenWaves III recently, the third annual event at the University of Central Florida (UCF) that implements environmental and social best practices to promote the need for conscious sustainable solutions.

Lighting designer Lighting designer Justin Geiger of California-based Impulse Creative Group used 16 Sharpys for the concert portion of the event, which featured electronic artists and notable DJs. It was billed as the first interactive concert at UCF and took sustainability to the next level by utilizing a PowerLeap dance floor, which uses “Piezo” flooring technology to convert the energy from the crowd into reusable energy for the concert.

Geiger deployed his complement of Sharpys on the main stage at the UCF Arena. “We used them on the wings, flanking a 40-foot projection wall and had four on the stage,” he reports. “We needed fixtures that would deliver the biggest impact for a high-energy electronic show with budgetary restrictions. We had free reign on design.”

Once Geiger showed his client a picture of what Sharpy can do, “he had to have it,” he says. “At one point he said, ‘I don’t care what [else] I get as long as I get those Sharpys!’”

Geiger’s Sharpys not only gave a big, dynamic look to the concert but also made the laser light provider envious. “The laser guy on the show hated them because he thought the Sharpys were gonna run him out of business!” Geiger says.

A.C.T Lighting is the distributor for Clay Paky in North America.

Francesco Romagnoli, Clay Paky Area Manager for North and Latin America, adds, “One of the outstanding features of our Sharpy is the punch it provides relative to its energy-efficient qualities. This festival is the perfect place to showcase those features.”

About Clay Paky
Headquartered in Seriate (Bergamo), Italy, Clay Paky SPA has a history of designing and manufacturing innovative professional show lighting. Nexsan’s Hybrid Storage Benefits Explained

White Paper Outlines the Advantages of Hybrid Unified Storage Systems for Virtual, Cloud and Traditional IT Environments

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., June 21, 2012 — Nexsan®, a leading independent provider of data storage systems, today announced the publication of a new white paper presenting the benefits of Hybrid Unified Storage technology when used in today’s high-performance, virtualized environments. The document provides information to organizations in need of high performance storage with the capacity to host business critical applications without stressing IT resources and budgets. The paper complements Nexsan’s recent introduction of next generation NST5000 Hybrid Storage systems.

As the number of virtual machines increase, even the fastest traditional storage systems with the most powerful controllers are challenged with the very significant increases in I/O performance required by virtual server infrastructures. While solid-state technology can alleviate these performance issues, enterprises must deploy inordinate amounts of SSD storage to support business requirements. This can prove too expensive for many, and limit capacities for all but a handful of organizations.

FASTier™ acceleration technology: DRAM + Solid State + Spinning Disk = Superior Price/Performance
Nexsan has addressed the SSD vs. spinning disk dilemma by combining the best of both for a high-performance, high capacity platform. The NST5000 is highly flexible and delivers block and file system interfaces in a variety of configurations for both its FASTier and backend capacities. The Hybrid Storage system offers up to 192GB of DRAM, which is expandable up to 2.8TB of 100GB or 200GB flash-based SLC SSDs, while boasting up to a petabyte of rotating disk storage. This unique configuration can accelerate overall performance of the storage system up to ten times compared to traditional spinning disk storage systems. Additional benefits include:

Fault-tolerant architecture, enabling both reads and writes to be cached

Elimination of the need for proprietary or unproven device drivers on application servers

SAN-friendly cache, which provides benefits to all application servers using the storage system

High performance NAS delivering both NFS and CIFS support

Caching algorithms that use CPU power and DRAM in the storage system, so application servers are not bogged down

“We’ve met the performance, capacity and pricing challenge of today’s demanding IT environments by providing the speed of solid-state at the price of spinning disk. The NST5000 Hybrid Storage systems with FASTier acceleration technology leverage a modest amount of solid-state in concert with spinning disk to greatly accelerate I/O for up to 10X performance over traditional storage,” said Gary Watson, Chief Technology Officer, Nexsan. “This paper examines the inner-workings of Hybrid Storage with FASTier to explain the radical new cost-per-I/O that is changing what organizations can do in their virtual and cloud environments.”

SXS Flies Martin Audio W8LM For Cutty Sark’s Royal Unveiling

Bristol-based event production company SXS was recently commissioned by the Royal Borough of Greenwich to provide sound and full technical production for the royal unveiling of the Cutty Sark in Greenwich. This followed a £50m restoration project as a result of fire damage to the 143-year-old clipper back in 2007.

SXS were tasked with constructing and outfitting a dais stage, while the PA was the company’s new Martin Audio W8LM line array. The production company deployed a total of 12 W8LM Mini Line Array enclosures in two hangs, with two W8LMD Downfills at the base of each hang. This was driven by Lab Gruppen FP series amps and controlled using XTA DSPs.

Attended by both the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, the launch took place at the Cutty Sark Gardens and the event included a 90-piece symphony orchestra and 400-member choir. The Martin Audio system also provided reinforcement for the Queen’s speech and took further live feeds from inside the Cutty Sark.

“The Martin Audio W8LM is our latest major audio investment and I was delighted to be able to use it for this event,” said Johnny Palmer, Production Manager, SXS Events. “Our sound department has been booming over the last year and we felt it time we invested in a system that allowed for accurate and even coverage. The W8LM is great for shows such as this because of its clarity, simple rigging and aesthetics––and it will be our system of choice when entrusted with highly demanding, high quality production.”

Alex Thompson, Head of Sound at SXS, added his endorsement. “This show was all about clarity, headroom and maximum gain before feedback––all core principles of our approach to sound. Our new W8LM system was ideal as we had plenty of gain and the accurate response achieved great reinforcement for the performance. Being an orchestral performance the role of the system was to reinforce the sound transparently and ideally not be noticed at all, and that’s precisely what it did.”

As for the event in Greenwich, this formed part of a major community engagement program, and as a result the Cutty Sark now occupies a dramatic new setting.

The clipper is now displayed 11 feet above its dry berth on the Thames and the space under the three-masted vessel is home to an interactive museum where visitors can learn about its history.

BenQ Projectors Shine Bright at InfoComm 2012

BenQ’s Blue Core Laser Projectors Honored With Commercial Integrator BEST Award and ProjectorReviews.com Best In Classroom Award; SH960 Large-Venue Projector Takes Home Rental & Staging Systems/InfoComm Installation Product Award

IRVINE, Calif. — June 21, 2012 — BenQ America Corp. today announced that the company received three awards for its advanced projectors at InfoComm 2012. The LX60ST and LW61ST blue core laser projectors were honored with the Commercial Integrator BEST Award in the category of “Conference/Classroom Projectors.” The LW61ST was also presented with a “Best In Classroom” Award by ProjectorReviews.com. The SH960 large-venue projector was the winner of a 2012 Rental & Staging Systems/InfoComm Installation Product Award in the category of “Best Video Projection — 5,500 Lumens or Less.”

“InfoComm 2012 was both a fun and amazing show for BenQ, and we are thrilled to have received these prestigious awards,” said Lars Yoder, President at BenQ America Corp. “Our LX60ST, LW61ST, and SH960 projectors are packed with innovations designed to optimize the price to performance ratio, while providing exceptional brightness. This is especially important in applications such as education, where budgets are tight, and performance is critical. We are honored that our products are recognized by the Commercial Integrator BEST, ProjectorReviews.com Best In Classroom, and Rental & Staging Systems/InfoComm Installation Product Awards.”

The Commercial Integrator BEST Awards recognize products and services that help Commercial Integrator’s readers run their businesses better and more profitably. A panel of commercial industry experts, including editors of Commercial Integrator and leading integrators, judged the entries in each of 62 categories based on creativity, innovation, ease of installation or implementation, and business benefits. In the category of “Conference/Classroom Projectors,” they chose BenQ’s LX60ST and LW61ST, the first short-throw education projectors to feature BenQ’s blue core light engine.

ProjectorReviews.com presented the “Best In Classroom” Award (Non-Interactive Projector) to BenQ for the LW61ST as part of its 2012-2013 Classroom Projector Report: Best School Projectors for K-12 Education. For the report, ProjectorReviews.com editors based their selections on 16 recently reviewed projectors plus 60 other recommended projectors for school use, paying close attention to the products’ special features and image quality performance.

Offering an ultra-high 80,000:1 contrast ratio, the blue core light engine utilizes a laser light source rather than a traditional mercury lamp. The result is up to 20,000 hours of reliable brightness, complete elimination of lamp replacement costs, and a 90 percent reduction in light source power consumption. BenQ’s blue core light engine-driven SmartEco Advanced(TM) technology optimizes the units’ light source system to deliver exceptional brightness, longer life, and greater energy efficiency.

This year’s Rental & Staging Systems/InfoComm Installation Product Awards showcased the most innovative products introduced in 2011. The winners in each category were selected by Rental and Staging Systems’ readers after a month of voting. In the category of “Best Video Projection 5,500 Lumens or Less,” they chose BenQ’s SH960 large-venue projector.

Designed for use in the most demanding settings, the SH960 projector boasts a stunning Full HD 1080p native resolution and 5500 ANSI lumen ultra-high brightness for brilliant images. The SH960 is equipped with a 3000:1 contrast ratio and a native 16:9 aspect ratio with a full 1.07 billion-color palette. The projector’s dual-lamp design allows users to opt for maximum brightness or choose an eco-mode that extends lamp life by up to 30 percent. H+V Lens Shift technology gives users flexibility in projector placement, allowing the focal point of the lens to be adjusted in venues where dead-center placement isn’t possible.
