Sennheiser Delivers End-to-End Audio Solution at Newport Folk Festival®, As Fans Experience Authentic Sound via Wireless Headphone Technology

Newport, RI – August 9, 2012 - The last weekend of July, audio specialist Sennheiser, in conjunction with event partner Paste Magazine, hosted a live broadcast / recording studio session housed in an alcove of an 18th century fortress, located on the site of this year’s Newport Folk Festival®. By simply donning a pair of Sennheiser RS 120 wireless consumer headphones, music fans were able to experience true-to-life, intimate performances artists from festival artists, including Of Monsters and Men, Tom Morello, Jonah Tolchin and 26 others.

Wherever possible, the entire audio chain consisted of Sennheiser related technology — including microphones from subsidiary Neumann and Sennheiser, preamplifiers from distributed brand TRUE Systems and wireless RF technology from Sennheiser.

The two-day recording session was not without its challenges. These included a live sound stage located just 100 yards away and an extremely reflective — and somewhat leaky — recording environment. Despite all this, the wireless headphones delivered a clean and quiet performance, faithfully representing the artists’ sounds for the duration of the two-day event.

Microphones on stage and in the room included several Neumann TLM 49s and KM 184s, two U 87s and a pair of Sennheiser e 906s. The microphones were connected to a pair of TRUE Systems Precision 8 preamplifiers, which — through a special feature on the back panel of the unit — split the signal and subsequently routed it to both a multi-track recording rig as well as a live mixer. Each of the Sennheiser wireless headphones received a live stereo mix of the multi track recording sessions courtesy of Nashville-based veteran engineer Steve Ledet. A Sennheiser A5000CP antenna was strategically placed in the rear of the grotto, providing a generous amount of RF coverage both inside and outside the grotto.

In addition to having many pairs of wireless headphones on hand, Sennheiser set up a special VIP seating area where listeners could audition an assortment of Sennheiser’s audiophile and professional headphones, including the HD 600, HD 650, HD 700, HD 800 and the new Amperior.

“Each of the performers we hosted at the Sennheiser Sound Lounge at the Paste Ruins takes an enormous amount of pride in the craftsmanship and honesty of their songs — this is of paramount importance to them,” commented Tim Moore, artist relations manager, Sennheiser. “By selecting a complete signal path of Sennheiser family gear before and after the mixing console, we were able to ensure the integrity of the audio at almost every stage. As a result, the performers were able to establish a more direct and honest connection with their fans.”

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Jonah Tolchin, who performed on the second day of the festival, found the Sennheiser Sound Lounge at the Paste Ruins particularly inspiring. “This is just incredible,” he said. “In this environment, with all these great mics, you are so zoned in and focused with all your heart and soul.” Tolchin recently released his debut album entitled Criminal Man, which was recorded using Neumann microphones. “The sound was very crisp and clear — I got true sound out of these mics and my music is true. So it was a good pairing!”

Clips of the performances will be made available for viewing via Sennheiser’s social media outlets over the next several weeks.

Youth Group Experiences Ultimate Yamaha and NEXO Audio System Thanks to Gand Concert Sound

BUENA PARK, Calif.—The tri-annual gathering of the Evangelical Lutheran Youth of America (ELCA) took place in late July at the Mercedes-Benz Super Dome in New Orleans, and the 35,000 plus teenage attendees once again were treated to praise activities, theatrical and musical performances, and the ultimate Yamaha and NEXO audio system thanks to the production services of Gand Concert Sound (GCS) of Glenview, Illinois, aka “the NEXO guys”. Christian acts including Rhema Soul, Lost and Found, Jimmy Buffet guitarist Peter Mayer, and GRAMMY® winners Switchfoot performed.

For its fourth time supporting the youth event, Gand provided a flown system comprising 60 NEXO GEO T speakers, 18 GEO S12, eight RS18 Ray Subs and 30 ground-stacked CD18 subs. Fifteen NEXO 4×4 amps were utilized to power dozens of NEXO PS15 and PS10s used for stage monitors and front fills, and PS8s used for under balcony delay speakers, as well as S12s and RS18’s.

“This was the first time the event was mixed totally digital from front of house to a pair of Yamaha M7CLs used for monitors on the A and B stages,” states Gary Gand, President, Gand Concert Sound. “A Yamaha LS9-16 was used for audio to video feeds to the Internet and an LS9-32 was put in place for the audience aux island stage. The use of all digital consoles allowed national acts such as Switchfoot, who flew from Seattle to New Orleans to make the show, call up their previous shows with GCS and get right down to business.”

Additionally, GCS used the new Rupert Neve Designs Portico 5045 processor developed specifically for Yamaha on specialty mics for added clarity. “We were able to achieve a great sound in one of the USA’s largest venues,” states front of house engineer Adam Rosenthal.

Gand bought their first large NEXO GEO T system in 2003 for an ELCA event held at the Georgia Dome. Since that time, they have continued to expand their inventory as NEXO has brought out more new products while they continue to add to their GEO T stock. “NEXO is constantly updating their software to improve the performance of the gear,” Gand says. “Now we have the integrated 4X4 amp that will work with every NEXO speaker in any combination enabling us to configure amps onsite for arrays, monitors, subs, in any combination and for any model.”

In addition to the July ELCA mega event, GCS also supplied audio production for the Pitchfork Fest in Chicago and dozens of other events around the Midwest.

Autoscript Demonstrates Prompting Solutions for Broadcasters at 2012 Texas Association of Broadcasters Show

AUSTIN, TEXAS, AUGUST 8, 2012—Autoscript, part of Vitec Videocom, a Vitec Group company, and a world-leading teleprompting company, is demonstrating several of its innovative prompting solutions for broadcasters at the 2012 Texas Association of Broadcasters Annual Convention & Tradeshow (Booth 107) this week.

“From LED prompters to software and wireless controls, attendees can expect to see the very latest in prompting technology at this year’s show,” says Greg Prentiss, sales director for the Americas, Autoscript. “We look forward to meeting with local broadcasters and introducing them to our solutions, which were designed with their production needs in mind.”

Autoscript is showcasing its compact, entry-level prompter, the ELP15 Plus. The perfect prompting solution for schools, colleges, universities and broadcasters, the ELP15 Plus offers a 15-inch monitor that is energy efficient—ensuring longevity, performance and reliability, and it contributes to green energy savings. It boasts 400 nits of brightness, composite, VGA and s-video inputs and the image-reversal capabilities necessary for prompting. Weighing just five pounds, the ELP15 Plus is an ideal teleprompter for entry-level users, while also offering great performance in the newsroom.

Also on site is the company’s line of LED teleprompters, ranging in size from eight to 19 inches. These on-camera prompter systems incorporate the latest in Autoscript’s illumination technology, the TFT (thin-film transistor) LED system. Unlike CCFLs (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Tubes), which take many minutes to reach full efficiency and light output, the company’s LED prompters offer instant warm-up to full brightness. In addition, these on-camera teleprompters come with a wide-angle hood, making them optimal for news- or studio-based productions.

For those looking for software, Autoscript is highlighting its +WinPlus-News+ software with the XBOX ULTRA. Compatible with all leading newsroom systems, including ENPS and iNEWS, +WinPlus-News+ offers users an all-in-one solution for show rundowns, cues and prompting. In addition to its enhanced features and capabilities, the XBOX ULTRA is ideal for portable prompting, as it can be plugged into a laptop or PC via its USB 2.0 interface. The video output is standard composite PAL or NTSC, but is also available in an SDI version.

Autoscript is also exhibiting its range of hand, foot and wireless scroll controls, including the new Magno Wireless Foot Control. This control allows presenters to control the speed of the script anywhere within the studio location, without the need to run cabling. Using RF technology on the 400-MHz license-free range, the Magno Foot Control will not interfere with any other devices and can be used up to 100 meters from the receiver module. The Magno Foot Control can be seamlessly added to existing Autoscript installations.

MOZAEX RELEASES BLUWAVS 7.1 HD AUDIO HEADPHONES; WORLD’S FIRST TO SUPPORT BLU-RAY HDMI 7.1 HD AUDIO

Salt Lake City – August 9, 2012 – Mozaex™, the premiere manufacturer of multi-room Blu-ray entertainment servers and peripherals, announced today it has launched BluWavs™, a revolutionary, patent pending series of 7.1 HD Audio headphones. The company will be demonstrating BluWavs and their entire product line of entertainment servers during the 2012 CEDIA Expo, held in Indianapolis from Sept. 6 – 8 at the Indiana Convention Center, booth 5655.

BluWavs are the world’s first Blu-ray 7.1 Discrete HD Audio headphones

“Mozaex has once again set a new standard in luxury home entertainment with the release of the first headphones to support Blu-ray 7.1 discrete HD Audio” said Mozaex CEO Douglas Kihm. “BluWavs are also the first headphones to include a BluWav ‘Blender’ Audio Console which allows users to fine-tune the volume and EQ of ten discrete speakers to meet their personal surround sound listening preferences.”

The BluWav Blender includes new technology called PLUSH (Personally Leveled Ultimate Surround Headphones). PLUSH allows the listener to instantly select their own personal audio profile for the richest, most enveloping surround sound experience. For example, the volume levels of the 10 discrete speakers and the EQ levels of the front speakers can be adjusted to create a warmer, deeper bass sound, or adjust the center and rear levels for louder movie dialogue and greater spatial effects.

BluWavs combine highest quality music headphones with 7.1 HD Audio and personalization

“Over the past two years, we worked with industry experts to design headphones that combine the absolute best sounding music with the clearest, most immersive 7.1 HD Audio for watching movies,” added Kihm.

“This product is actually a life-long goal of mine, which began about 40 years ago when I built my first pair of stereo headphones and more recently when I began to design a solution for my own hearing loss. I am thrilled to see from the initial feedback that BluWavs not only delivers HD surround sound audio that is many times the quality of stereo headphones, but that others like me appreciate being able to finally watch a movie without sub-titles and without disturbing other people.”

BluWavs patent pending technology addresses a unique niche in a multi-billion dollar market

While the market for stereo music and gaming headphones continues to experience high growth with over $2 billion in total headphone sales in the USA alone, little attention has been paid to delivering a product that offers the best audio quality for both stereo and surround sound media, such as Blu-ray. In spite of a general slowdown in consumer electronics, worldwide sales for headphones continue to experience rapid growth. As reported on February 6, 2012 by Gfk at the BADA (British Audio-Visual Dealers Association), UK sales of headphones are up 26.4 percent in value with a total UK headphone market “worth more than £163m which is equal to the entire market for hi-fi and home cinema sectors which has fallen to a 20-year low of £167m”.

Continued from the BADA report, “UK consumers bought more than 10 million pairs of headphones in 2011 – almost two million more sets than we did in 2010. The price we’re paying is also increasing, with the UK headphone market now worth £163,217,000.”

Mozaex believes that besides the huge growth in the mobile market consumers are paying a higher price for higher quality. BluWavs patent pending technology uniquely addresses the un-served surround sector of this fast growing market. Only BluWavs delivers HDMI 7.1 discrete HD Audio. Other surround sound headphones only support lower quality SD Audio and are typically used on USB or SPDIF computer game consoles or offer “virtual audio technology” that attempts to create virtual 5.1 SD Audio using conventional stereo headphones.

BluWavs meets dealer needs for a truly unique, value-added, non-retail store product

Kihm continued, “BluWavs offers our network of custom home electronic dealers an opportunity to expand their sales with a truly unique, value-added product that their clients won’t find at a consumer retail store. BluWavs are the perfect add-on peripheral to any mid to high-end home theater project.”

BluWavs meets MDU client needs for an unobtrusive way to enjoy HD quality entertainment

BluWavs offers a great opportunity to dealers to meet the growing needs of millions of people who live in condominiums and other Multiple Dwelling Units (MDUs) who are constrained from loudly playing their movies and music. For example, in Europe, 50 percent of people live in MDUs. The U.S. is quickly catching up with more than a third of all U.S. residents living in approximately five million MDU buildings that range from apartments to high rise condominiums.

BluWavs are first to deliver DTS HD Master, Dolby TrueHD and LPCM HD quality audio

Blu-ray Disc® revolutionized home theater with its 1080p video and 7.1 HD quality audio formats.
BluWavs HD Audio delivers bit rates up to 27 Mbps (or 18 times the quality of standard definition formats). Until now dealers were unable to offer their clients exceptional 7.1 HD Audio quality headphones.

BluWavs patent pending technology universally supports all popular HD Audio formats and interfaces, including DTS® HD Master and Dolby® TrueHD HD Audio plus HDMI and Multi-Channel pre-amp outputs.

BluWavs includes vibration subwoofer to deliver music and bass thumping scenes you can feel

Its patent pending technology includes the first vibration subwoofer speaker driver that has its own dedicated bass booster amplifier and crossover which can be adjusted to deliver bass sounds the listener can literally feel. BluWavs are designed to dramatically enhance the user experience when playing movies, music, games and online surround sound media such as NetFlix and iTunes.

USA and Canadian Pricing (Contact Mozaex for International pricing)

BluWavs includes a single Headset and Blender Console. The Blender Console is available at the same price in either a Shelf enclosure or rack mountable. Additional Headsets are sold separately.

Two models are available. BluWavs A10 supports analog inputs while BluWavs AD10 supports both analog and digital HDMI inputs. Both models support 10 speakers per Headset and two Headsets when using the analog pre-amp input or by adding an optional Headset Amp.

BluWavs A10 – Analog – Includes one headset and Blender A10 – Price: $1,695 MSRP USA

BluWavs AD10 – Analog/Digital – Includes one headset and Blender AD10 – Price: $2,295 MSRP USA

BluWav Headset – Includes one BluWav Headset – Price: $895 MSRP USA

BluWav Headset Amp – Optionally adds one Headset to the Blender – Price: $595 MSRP USA

MD2-ZB Smart Plug and BB-ZB1 Gateway
The MD2-ZB smart plug provides energy monitoring, load control, scheduled conservation, and surge protection in a compact form factor that plugs directly into any standard 120V, 15A outlet. Utilizing ZigBee(R) wireless communications, the MD2-ZB can be monitored, controlled, programmed, and remotely accessed via Panamax/Furman’s cloud-based BlueBOLT(R) energy management and control platform (with BB-ZB1 gateway). For integrators, BlueBOLT reduces service calls through remote control of the MD2-ZB’s two discrete AC outlets from any Internet-enabled device. Additionally, the platform provides real-time and historical power related data, including energy consumption in kWh and dollars. This data allows integrators to schedule conservation periods to eliminate wasted power and decrease utility bills.

Offering a thin profile of 1.5 inches, the MD2-ZB houses two side-mounted outlets and provides status, network, and wiring fault indicators, in addition to push-button “override” power switches to instantly power outlets on/off from the top of the device. The unit’s Protect-or-Disconnect(TM) circuitry completely disconnects AC power to connected equipment in the event of a catastrophic surge. To accommodate the look of any room, the MD2-ZB’s front cover can easily be removed and painted to match the wall color.

The MD2-ZB and BB-ZB1 will be available later in 2012.

“Wrecking Crew” Documentary Highlights 133rd AES Convention Special Events

SAN FRANCISCO: With more Gold and Platinum credits than The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elvis and Elton combined, “The Wrecking Crew,” is the most storied, yet anonymous group in recording history. Session players behind hit records for superstars ranging from The Beach Boys to Sinatra, Jan & Dean, The Mamas & The Papas, Simon & Garfunkel, The Byrds… And ‘The King himself,’ this mythic amalgam of obscure artists is now the subject of an almost impossible to find documentary. AES Convention Special Events Christopher Smith has coordinated a rare screening of this elusive film for the 133rd AES Convention, which will be held in SF’s Moscone Center October 26-29.

“Although gargantuan music licensing fees temporarily preclude wide distribution for ‘The Wrecking Crew,’ numerous international Film Festival screenings have created a compelling ‘must see this’ buzz for it,” explains AES Convention Committee Co-Chair Jim McTigue. “We are extremely fortunate to have arranged a special screening for our 133rd Convention Attendees. In fact, we may want to add a word to our ‘Listen… Learn… Connect…’ AES mandate. I suggest ‘Enjoy…’”

Produced and directed by Denny Tedesco, son of legendary, late Wrecking Crew guitarist Tommy Tedesco, the film features interviews with Brian Wilson, Cher, Roger McGuinn, and many Wrecking Crew members, including Glen Campbell, a durable superstar, in his own right. Christopher Smith reports that Tedesco will hold a Q&A (with special guests) following the screening.

Also highlighting the 133rd AES Convention Special Events Program is:

GRAHAM BLYTH ORGAN CONCERT: On Friday, Oct. 29th from 8:00 until 9:00PM, SF’s historic, 160-year-old St. Marks Church will provide the indelible acoustic setting for a performance by perennial AES Convention favorite, Graham Blyth. An internationally recognized Organist and accomplished professional audio equipment designer, Blyth has performed at AES Conventions around the world since 1993.
