David Yurman Celebrates New Fall Line With The Help of a NanoLumens® NanoFlex Display

When high-end jewelry designer David Yurman introduces its new line of jewelry, it requires a launch party that is as glamorous as its products. When the company asked Coloredge, their visual communications provider, to find a video display for a roof-top celebration in New York City, they decided to use a NanoLumens® display to help kick off the fall line. NanoLumens, the pioneering Norcross, Georgia-based company that introduced the world’s first large format flexible LED display technology, provided Coloredge with a NanoFlex™ display that was used to showcase the jeweler’s new Fall 2012 ad campaign.

According to Kerry Fitzgibbons, Manager of Strategic Partnerships and Recruiting at Coloredge, they found everything they were looking for in NanoLumens. “Our client tasked us with finding a video display that could shine bright against the brilliant sunset over the New York City skyline. After doing some research, we decided that a display created by NanoLumens was the ideal solution. Not only are their displays beautiful and economic, but they provide a clear, seamless picture that maintains its radiance, regardless of the ambient light.”

Coloredge found that the lightness and flexibility of the NanoLumens screen was the perfect technology for the sparkling event. They rigged the display on trusses and built a 12-foot by 12-foot custom frame to enclose the NanoFlex. The display was used throughout the night to display David Yurman’s new ad campaign, the brand guide, behind-the-scenes glimpses into the ad campaign, and a photo slideshow.

“To have a NanoLumens display featured at a David Yurman event only makes sense,” said Will Amos, Director of Retail Sales at NanoLumens. “David Yurman represents the best in high-end jewelry, while NanoLumens represents the best in digital display technology, so this was a perfect match. Our displays are easy to set up, and are able to produce a brightness of up to 5,000 nits, making it so that party-goers can enjoy our unmatched picture quality even when set against the backdrop of an amazing sunset.”

NanoLumens displays are extremely slim, ultra-lightweight, energy efficient, and feature a seamless, edge-to-edge picture quality (up to a brightness of 5,000 nits) that can be viewed from any angle or any distance without color shift or picture drop-off. The company’s patented display technology, which allows customers to select from 4mm up to 10mm pixel pitch (depending on the model), promises to transform the way marketers engage their customers in every type of trade show, retail, hospitality, stadium, arena, transportation and public event environment.

NanoLumens displays are designed and engineered with the environment in mind, and consume significantly less energy per square foot than conventional digital displays. Further emphasizing their commitment to eco-friendly technology, NanoLumens displays are composed of up to 50 percent reclaimed materials, and are completely recyclable. What’s more, some NanoLumens displays can be serviced from the front, making maintenance easier than ever before possible.

Designed and assembled in the United States, NanoLumens displays are offered in standard configurations as well as design-specific configurations to fit virtually any size, shape or curvature in both the NanoFlex line of flexible displays and the NanoSlim line of fixed frame displays.

The company’s technology has been recognized by Entrepreneur magazine as a 2011 future-proof tech trend and was cited by The Wall Street Journal in its 2010 Technology Innovations Awards. NanoLumens’ technology also received the 2011 Breakthrough Technology of the Year Award at the American Technology Awards. Digital Signage Magazine awarded the NanoLumens NanoFlex a 2011 DIGI Award for “Best New Display Device – Non-LCD or Plasma.”

The PA People Call on HARMAN’s JBL Loudspeakers to Deliver High-Impact Audio at Ausgrid Stadium

NORTHRIDGE, California – Ausgrid Stadium in Newcastle, Australia (formerly Energy Australia Stadium), home to the Newcastle Knights, has undergone a dramatic facelift with the redevelopment of its Western Grandstand. This state-of-the-art facility provides Newcastle and the Hunter Valley with a sporting facility to rival any across the country. Ausgrid Stadium boasts a brand-new audio system, designed and implemented by The PA People, using the proven formula of HARMAN’s JBL Application Engineered (AE) loudspeakers with weatherized treatment for external use (WRX) as well as JBL Control® 29AV-1 and Control 25AV loudspeakers. All speakers are driven by Crown CTS amplifiers fitted with the latest Crown DSP card—Crown IQ PIPUSP4/CN. Overlay processing and control is via BSS London BLU systems.

Loudspeakers for the stands consist of six clusters of spaced elements mounted close to the leading edge of the roof and a quantity of fill speakers to cover areas shadowed from the main clusters. Each of these six clusters utilizes a JBL AM5212 and AM4315 loudspeaker to cover the grandstand upper seating and one JBL AM4315 loudspeaker to cover the grandstand lower seating.

Both loudspeaker models feature rotatable horns that allowed them to be installed horizontally. Careful selection of the horn coverage pattern and orientation allows the grandstand upper seating to be serviced by a single enclosure while maintaining SPL variation of within the target +/- 3dB. Servicing the grandstand upper seating with a single enclosure has the added advantage of virtually eliminating interference effects such as comb filtering which occurs when arraying loudspeakers to cover a common zone.

The JBL AM4315 is operated as a passive 3-way and is driven from a dedicated channel of Crown CTS2000 amplification which also provides over 6 dB of headroom. The multi-band Progressive Transition™ mid-high frequency waveguide provides increased sensitivity in the critical midrange vocal region between 500 Hz and 2.8 kHz. The JBL AM4315 also has extended bandwidth and a well-controlled coverage pattern.

Open arena viewing areas are covered by using the long-throw JBL PD5212/95-WRX weatherized loudspeaker. JBL Precision Directivity™ (PD) loudspeakers are well regarded by professional sound operators for their excellent pattern control down to 250 Hz.

A total of 72 JBL Control 25AV speakers and 24 JBL Control 29AV-1 speakers are deployed for coverage to the grandstand infill areas.

HARMAN (www.harman.com) designs, manufactures and markets a wide range of audio and infotainment solutions for the automotive, consumer and professional markets – supported by 15 leading brands, including AKG, Harman Kardon, Infinity, JBL, Lexicon and Mark Levinson. The company is admired by audiophiles across multiple generations and supports leading professional entertainers and the venues where they perform. More than 20 million automobiles on the road today are equipped with HARMAN audio and infotainment systems. HARMAN has a workforce of about 13,400 people across the Americas, Europe and Asia, and reported sales of $4.4 billion for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2012.

Clay Paky Sharpys Hit the Road with Dave Matthews Band

After taking last summer off, the Dave Matthews Band is back on the road with a North American tour previewing their upcoming album, “Away From The World,” due for release in September. The tour features 16 Clay Paky Sharpy fixtures specified by the band’s longtime lighting designer Fenton Williams and supplied by Theatrical Media Services Inc. of Omaha, Nebraska.

“Sharpys are new to the market so the units we have were all purchased brand new for this tour,” says Pete Franks of Theatrical Media Services, who serves as system crew chief on the road. “Everybody really likes the unique look of the Sharpys. They are evenly distributed and mounted vertically on the video screen surrounds upstage of the band – part of the scenic elements instead of hung on a conventional horizontal truss. They replaced all of the ACL-type lights we used in the past.”

Franks says the complement of Sharpys is holding up well on the busy tour schedule. “They are rock solid and working great,” he reports. “The guys really like the narrow beam angle the Sharpys produce.”

A.C.T Lighting is the distributor for Clay Paky in North America.

Francesco Romagnoli, Clay Paky Area Manager for North and Latin America, adds, “Yet another summer rock and roll tour that our Sharpys have helped define the look for. It’s gratifying to see so many great lighting designers and lighting professionals as excited as they are about our little light.”
