Reaffirming its commitment to meet the growing market demand for powerful, customized audiophile-quality home theater and multi-zone audio systems, Niles®, The First Name In Custom Installation®, today introduced a new line of five Systems Integration Amplifiers® that includes the re-tooled SI-1230 Series 2 Amplifier, the successor to the SI-1230 that was inducted to the CEDIA Hall of Fame in 2011. The new line of powerful multi-zone amplifiers provides CI professionals the ideal solution for every application. The introduction was made at CEDIA EXPO 2012 in Niles’ Booth #902 of the Indiana Convention Center.

According to Niles Chief Marketing Officer Paul Starkey, “Niles has a long tradition of designing and marketing audio components of the highest quality, and that level of precision and care has resulted in this new line of five high-power, reliable, and installation-friendly amplifiers. With a full line of Systems Integration Amplifiers, CI professionals now have a Niles amplifier for every installation, whether it’s a home theater, a whole-home multi-zone system, or a restaurant or office audio system.”

The three new 2-channel Niles Systems Integration Amplifiers, the SI-250, SI-2100, and SI2150, feature audio circuitry constructed using the finest materials available, including 1% metal film resistors, high quality capacitors and oversized heat sinks that ensure proper cooling without the need for a noisy fan. In order to provide tremendous bass and dynamics to every speaker, the amplifiers deliver 50W, 100W, or 150W RMS per channel at 8 ohms and 100W, 220W, or 270W RMS per channel at 4 ohms respectively. For applications requiring high output, such as subwoofers or rock speakers, each of these amplifiers can also be operated in a bridged mono configuration, resulting in the delivery of 225W, 400W, or 550W respectively.

What’s more, each amplifier channel features an independent level control enabling precise volume matching to the rest of the system. They also feature gold plated stereo inputs, cascade stereo outputs, and five way binding posts to ensure perfect connection without corrosion for years to come.

The SI-1230 Series 2 Systems Integration Amplifier is a fully configurable 12-channel power amplifier that provides 30W per channel (80W when bridged) and features a unique BusMatrix™ selector that allows each channel to be set to left bus, right bus, left plus right bus (summed stereo), or the channel’s dedicated input.

The new Niles SI-1650 16-channel amplifier features a unique web browser configurator that allows each channel to select from any of the 16 inputs or combination of inputs. The powerful and versatile amplifier delivers 50W per channel and includes a high power mode that produces 100W per channel for 8 channels. The amplifier’s high pass and low pass filters allow it to be used with subwoofers and make it ideal to match with Niles popular line of GS Garden Speakers.

All five Niles Systems Integration Amplifiers come with a two-year limited warranty, include a removable line cord and rack mount ears, and feature three turn-on modes: Music Sense, External Voltage Trigger, and Manual Turn-On via the front panel switch. They also each provide a 12V DC output whenever the amplifier is on, allowing operation of voltage-triggered devices like motorized screens and curtains.

The 2-channel models measure 438cm wide by 56cm high by 344cm deep and fit in a single rack bay. The 12- and 16-channel models measure 438cm wide by 145 cm high (including feet) by 411cm deep and require three rack bays.

HARMAN’s AKG Relaunches Classic Project Studio Line Of Condenser Microphones – C4500 BC Broadcast Mic In Focus During IBC

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands – Originally launched in 1993, HARMAN’s AKG C3000 condenser microphone brought a remarkable level of quality and performance to musicians and sound engineers with a foundation of audio perfection and reliability. With the C2000, C4000 and C4500 BC debuting in the following years, the Project Studio Line was born. Nearly 20 years later, AKG’s has relauched the Project Studio Line, with a cost-effective, aesthetically beautiful set of mics, channelling the popular characteristics it maintained in the ‘90s.

The revamped Project Studio Line’s C4500 BC is specially designed for on-air broadcast purposes. The mic is designed with cardioid pickup and offers legendary AKG sound quality thanks to its edge-terminated large diaphragm condenser capsule. The low proximity effect and the integrated multilayer pop-filter ensure best results even with lively speakers.

C4500 BC meets the strictest requirements of digital audio with its ultra-low 8dB-A self-noise and 145/165 dB SPL capacity. The mic’s acoustical design and front-end address allow for comfortable on-air broadcast work and easy positioning in front of instruments, including bass drums, upright bass, baritone sax or other high-output sources. C4500’s 3-stage filter and low up-close bass boost allow for close positioning to sources, accurately capturing target sound.

“AKG’s new Project Studio Line takes a fresh look at a technology that has stayed true to the audio industry for 20 years, which is testament to the quality and reliability of our world-leading microphones,” stated Thomas Stubics, product marketing manager, recording and broadcast, AKG. “The C4500 BC’s relaunch will offer a comfortable and reliable solution for any on-air micing or voice-over application with amazingly clear and high-quality results.”

Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions Debuts New Projectors That Make 3D Home Theater Viewing Easier and More Affordable

Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions Debuts New Projectors That Make 3D Home Theater Viewing Easier and More Affordable

HC8000D and HC7800DW Turn Standard 2D Content into Eye-Popping 3D

IRVINE, Calif., September 6, 2011 —Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions America, Inc. showcases two of its new home theater projectors designed make 3D home theater viewing easier and more affordable: the HC8000D and HC7900DW projectors debut at the CEDIA Home Theater Show in Indianapolis, September 5-8, 2012 in Booth #1403.

“We’ve heard that there isn’t enough 3D content in the marketplace, and that is definitely an issue,” said Wayne Kozuki, product manager, Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions America, Inc. “Our new projectors have an amazing 2D-to-3D conversion feature that actually turns regular 2D films into amazing 3D movies. Even old movies like The Wizard of Oz can become a 3D masterpiece, right in your own home.”

The HC7900DW and HC8000D projectors use one of the industry’s best 2D-to-3D Frame Rate Conversion technologies, resulting in a near-perfect simulation of a true 3D frame of vision. Using Mitsubishi’s own algorithms in calculating and interpolating multiple depth levels in a 2D image, this new, high-speed frame reproduction technology produces detailed, high-definition 3D images with minimum crosstalk or distortion so 3D content appears to literally jump off the screen, even in high-speed action scenes.

The HC8000D supports Mitsubishi’s proprietary 3D glasses (sold separately), but both models are compatible with Universal 3D glasses, making family viewing easy and more affordable. The projectors also allow friends to watch 3D sporting events like football games in a party atmosphere, with attendees bringing their own 3D glasses.

“With the HC8000 and the HC7900, we solved two of the biggest issues with 3D home theater,” added Kozuki. “Now there are practically unlimited 3D movies available, and you can invite your friends over to watch them in 3D without a huge investment.”

Mitsubishi’s HC8000D boasts an impressive 330,000:1 contrast ratio for rich details, even in darkly-lit movies or film noir and 1300 lumens of brightness, making it a great option for gaming. Its extra-long lamp life, up to 5000* hours in low mode, can provide years of movie, television and gaming enjoyment, depending on usage.

The new HC7900DW projector features 150,000:1 contrast ratio, 1500 lumens of brightness and up to 5000* hours of lamp life as well. It comes in a white cabinet, and when installed, can easily match the aesthetics of a white ceiling.

Both projectors use Texas Instruments’ latest DLP® .065-inch DMD chip to create exciting, vibrant 2D and 3D images in full high-definition, 1080P resolution. An ultra-hushed fan in each creates 23 dBa in low mode, so viewers only hear quiet dialogue or soft music during a movie or television show, not an annoying fan hum.

Two of the latest HDMI™ version 1.4 inputs in each projector support 3D signals as well as provide easy set-up options for multiple video inputs. The projectors’ RS232 support offers plug-and-play connectivity for easy integration with third-party remote operations and control in higher-end installations.

The HC8000D will be available through authorized Mitsubishi Electric distributors and dealers and the HC7900DW through dealers and on the Internet, just in time for the year-end holiday gift giving season. Both will be competitively priced.

“Our new slogan is, Your World, Bigger, and it’s obvious that Mitsubishi does exactly that by making your content choices bigger and your home theater experience more affordable,” said James Chan, vice president, marketing, Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions America. “We’ve received quite a few Editor’s Choice Awards with previous models; and initial feedback is that these two new ones are even better.”

Clay Paky Sharpys Sing on NBC’s “The Voice”

Lighting designer Oscar Dominguez has added Clay Paky Sharpy fixtures to the extensive lighting complement he deploys for NBC’s hit reality talent show, “The Voice.” The series, which is heading into season three, is executive produced by reality guru Mark Burnett.

“The Voice” has three components: Blind Auditions, Battle Rounds and the Live competition. Dominguez, who has done other programs with Burnett, has said he’s always challenged to create “a very crafted, very unique, individual look” for each series. With “The Voice,” the different components within the show have distinctive looks as well.

Clay Paky Sharpy is a 189W moving head with an unprecedented brightness usually achievable only with far greater wattages. Tipping the scales at just 16 kg, Sharpy produces a perfectly parallel, laser-like beam with an incredible output of 5,100 footcandles at 65 feet. It is also groundbreaking in the purity of its beam, which is sharply defined and free of any halo or discoloration around the edges. It offers an interchangeable color wheel with 14 fixed colors and an interchangeable gobo wheel with 17 fixed gobos, allowing users to change the shape of the beam and create an array of spectacular mid-air effects.

Dominguez uses approximately 48 Sharpys for each of the show’s three components, some placed on the floor and some hung among other fixtures. “It’s the first time I’m using them,” he notes. “I wanted the right show that I could put a large quantity of Sharpys on, and ‘The Voice’ is it. We call the set ‘Sharpyville!’”

Domiguez calls the Sharpy a “phenomenal little light” with “fantastic reach” which “can build these looks and create an entire structure out of the darkness.” He likes their ability to “cut a razor of color in the sky” and “create beautiful fans.”

He also praises their speed and reports that “they are performing very well” as the show prepares for a new season.

A.C.T Lighting is the distributor for Clay Paky in North America.

Francesco Romagnoli, Clay Paky Area Manager for North and Latin America, adds, “It’s great to see our amazing Sharpys on so many high profile television shows. The Voice is one of the programs that’s changing the look of live television we’re proud to be able to help with that.”

Jazz Artist Esperanza Spalding Chooses DPA’s d:facto™ Vocal Microphone For Her Live Vocals

Bassist and vocalist artist Esperanza Spalding is currently touring with her new project Radio Music Society with a set-up of DPA microphones, including the new DPA d:facto™ Vocal Microphone that she is using for her vocal performances.

Esperanza Spalding draws upon many genres in her own compositions and has garnered numerous accolades for her musicianship and smooth, experimental sound. In 2011, she won a Grammy for Best New Artist, becoming the first jazz musicians to do so, and her career also includes collaborations with great artists like Wayne Shorter and Joe Lovano.

Jaime Armengol, who works as Esperanza’s sound engineer, chose DPA microphones for her 2012 tour because he was already well aware of the sound quality he could achieve with the brand.

He says: “We are using a full range of d:vote™ 4099 Instrument Microphones and have employed them on piano, upright bass and saxophone. They are really great and are giving incredible results that everyone is very happy with.”

Jaime is also delighted with the performance of DPA’s new d:facto™ Vocal Microphone – and he’s not the only one.

“To begin with I didn’t tell Esperanza that I had changed her microphone, but when we started sound checking she said ‘what did you do with my vocal? It sounds much better and more natural’,” he explains. “After that we decided to make the switch to the d:facto™ and Esperanza is now using it for her vocals during this year’s touring.

“It is a very clean microphone, which is typical of the sound you expect from DPA. I usually use a channel strip (first brands like Universal Audio, Empirical Labs, Millennia, Avalon etc) and the clarity at all frequencies is really impressive. The frequency response cuts the lows appropriately and it has a nice HF boost. It is evident that its capsule comes from one of the best mics ever – the DPA 4011 Cardioid Microphone. I was really impressed with the optimized proximity effect and so far I have not had any problems with feedback or pop and handling noise. I also liked the linearity in frequency and phase and the impressive off-axis response. It is a powerful microphone and DPA has done a really good job!”

DPA’s hand-held d:facto™ Vocal Microphone, which was launched earlier this year at Pro Light + Sound, bridges the gap between live stage performances and studio recordings. Offering an exceptionally natural sound, high separation from nearby sound sources and extreme sound level handling, this microphone is ideal for live music performances as it combines a supercardiod pattern with superb definition to give high separation and true sound color on stage. In common with all DPA mics, d:facto™ features superior gain before feedback, while the inbuilt 3-step pop protection grid effectively removes unwanted noise.
“Esperanza enjoyed the d:facto™ from the first minute she used it – and so did I,” Jaime Armengol adds. “Being able to use it on this tour is a wish fulfilled for me.”
